Chapter 268: A Friendly Introduction

Yohan had just said goodbye to Jenna when he received a text from Emily. It was out of place because someone like Emily Michael never texted like this.

She said it was very urgent and needed him to come down to the hotel.

Yohan didn’t go immediately. He took a second to think about what she could possibly want from him, maybe it had something to do with Freddie.

’If that’s the case I should go see her’

When he arrived they led him to a conference room where Emily was already waiting.

"Yohan," she welcomed him with a warm smile, "Thank you for coming so quickly,"

"It’s no problem, why did you want to see me so suddenly?"

"Sorry if it seems sudden, I’ve been trying to reach you, I even called the other night, but you didn’t answer,"

Yohan recalled that the call came in, when he was busy with Cassie’s friend,

"Sorry about that, I was really busy and forgot to call back,"

"It’s fine, why don’t you have a seat," she offered.

He pulled out one of the chairs and sat, "How about Freddie, do you know how he’s doing?"

He was trying to see if at least find out where he was because of his agreement with Izumi. Even if it was only able to get a phone call, he’d be satisfied.

"Yes actually... he ran into some trouble recently so I had to send him somewhere for the month," she said.

"Oh," he said softly, his brain slowly catching up to speed. He was well aware of the trouble she was referring to, but he was curious just how much she really knew about the situation.

"He told me that you even helped him out," She sat beside him, at the head of the table.

Yohan chuckled, "I helped him out?"

He found it even more funny as he said it, "I guess you could say that,"

Emily held his hand with gentle warmness "Thank you for not telling the police, he just made a mistake and he would have spent the rest of his life paying for that mistake,"

"He should have," Yohan said coldly, before looking her dead in the eye, "Did he tell you everything he did?"

The atmosphere shifted and Emily couldn’t say anything.

"You raised a monster, and I didn’t do anything to help him. I only didn’t want to get even more involved. If it was up to me your son would spend the rest of his life behind bars," his words were like hot fire, brutal and full of resentment.

Once again she was caught with nothing to say, her expression remained frozen. She had never seen this side of Yohan, all she could do was bow her head in shame.

"I know..." she managed to say, "What Freddie did was unforgivable, he told me everything so I really have no defense but at least let me repay you in some way,"

"I don’t want a reward for freeing a criminal," Yohan said flatly.

"Then why don’t you receive one from a business partner," she said.

Before he could say another word, Emily had gotten up and went to one of the doors. When she opened it, a man with his hair packed in a bun stepped out.

He was accompanied by a girl that looked exactly like someone Yohan had seen before, someone he thought he would never see again.

"It’s you..." he mumbled, almost voiceless.

It was like seeing a ghost. The girl he had killed was standing right in front of him, only that this one had blonde hair.

’It’s not her...’ he reminded himself, he was sure of it, except the baker had some kind of item to bring her back to life.

That thought immediately made him turn his attention to the man, and one quick look sent him to his feet, panic flashing across his face as he realized this person might really be the Baker.

"No need to be frightened," the man said, his expression calm, almost gentle. "I only came here to talk."

"Yes, Yohan, Christopher isn’t going to do anything," Emily added with a bright smile—one that felt completely out of place in the suffocating tension.

"Christopher?" Yohan repeated, his voice low.

"Yes, that is my name," the man replied. "Though I suppose you would only know me as the Baker. Call me whichever you prefer."

So it was true.

"You’re the Baker...?" Yohan’s eyes moved over him from head to toe.

There was nothing overtly threatening about him, just a well-built man with striking features... in fact his looks alone, was very disarming, and his tone was even friendly.

It was the direct opposite of the girl standing behind him. Her gaze was focused on Yohan, and it was far from friendly.

"This is Lena, the person you killed was her sister Luna,"

"Killed?" Emily’s head snapped toward him, her eyes darting between the two. "What are you talking about?"

"It was self-defense," Yohan said coldly, he knew he had to stand his ground. There was no time to be feeling guilty, this could still be an ambush. He needed to stay prepared.

"I had no intention of even hurting her, she she and some guys tried to kill me,"

"No need to defend yourself, I’m not accusing you and this isn’t a court, I’m only stating facts," the Baker said lightly. "Do you think I’ll tell Emily to set up this play date if I was angry at you?"

Indeed he didn’t bear any animosity towards Yohan, and he could tell because he could see the flow of his energy using his Meridian Tell. The same couldn’t be said for the girl.

The bloodlust was almost too much to ignore, but who could blame her.

"I’m just curious, Freddie told me you knew of my existence even before you met him and you were even using some of my items. For a man as private as me, you have to understand why that would be of concern."

Christopher was asking nicely so it made Yohan pause for a bit, maybe he didn’t actually have to make an enemy out of this person, maybe he could just cooperate and see where it went.

"I found out through a mutual friend..."
