Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Clara Langley’s Miscarriage

My heart sank. It was only then that I suddenly remembered I had come here to cancel the abortion I’d scheduled...

’This is bad!’

’I can’t believe I forgot!’

"You were just..."

I turned around almost instinctively and cut the nurse off before she could finish. "Sorry, there’s no need to check. Thank you."

"Hmm?" The nurse looked at me, confused.

At the same time, Theodore Grant also turned to me, his brow slightly furrowed. His ink-black eyes seemed to want to peer right into my soul.

"My apologies for the trouble." I gave the nurse an apologetic nod. My heart was pounding, but I didn’t let any of my anxiety show on my face as I turned to leave.

"What were you checking on?"

But before I had taken more than a few steps, Theodore Grant strode after me and grabbed my arm. "Were you checking on Clara Langley?"

I wrenched my arm from his grasp and sneered, "What about it? Is there some rule against me checking on her?"

Theodore Grant’s thin lips pressed into a tight line. "And you still claim you’re not here to gloat?"

I laughed abruptly. "That’s right, I am here to gloat. A spectacle like this? I wish I could watch one every single day!"

Theodore Grant’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t pursue the topic. "A moment ago, you said your mother was killed by Clara Langley? What did you mean by that?"

I had no desire to speak with him further, so I tried to walk around him and leave.

But Theodore Grant blocked my path. "Do you blame me, too? Is that why you divorced me?"

I stared at Theodore Grant with a deep frown, wondering how he could have possibly reached that conclusion.

"Move," I said, my face turning cold. "You’re in my way."

But Theodore Grant didn’t move, his burning gaze fixed on me. "Ever since the day we divorced, I haven’t stopped thinking. Where did I go wrong? How did everything I do end up pushing you further and further away? Now I even regret... why I gave up on you so easily..."

I had no patience for his long-winded speech. "Theodore, we’re already divorced."

"We can get remarried," Theodore Grant said urgently.

I was so angry I had to laugh. "You agreed to divorce me because of Clara Langley. Now you want to remarry me, again, because of her. Tell me, Theodore, in your heart, am I nothing but a toy you can summon and dismiss whenever you please?"

’Or was it that I was so easily won you never learned to cherish me?’

"No..."

Theodore Grant’s face was a mask of anxiety as he grabbed my hand. "Chelsea, it’s not like that..."

I instinctively tried to pull my hand away, but Theodore Grant’s grip was too tight. I couldn’t break free.

"Let go of me!"

"I won’t. Chelsea, please, just give me one last chance. I really can’t live without you!"

"You—" Just as I was about to let loose a string of curses in my anger, a tall, imposing figure cast a shadow over us. He shoved Theodore Grant aside and pulled me protectively behind him.

Theodore Grant’s dark eyes smoldered. His gaze dropped to where Sebastian Forrest was holding my hand, then traveled up to glare at Sebastian himself. For a moment, a cold light flashed in his eyes, as if he wanted to lunge forward and tear him apart.

People bustled back and forth in the corridor, but the two imposing men stood in opposition. They were of similar height, both with long legs, broad shoulders, and narrow waists. As their eyes locked, the undisguised animosity between them was electric, a confrontation waiting to happen.

Theodore Grant’s eyes were frigid. The violent rage building in his chest made him clench his fists so tightly the veins on the back of his hands bulged.

"Are you okay?"

Sebastian Forrest, however, didn’t spare Theodore Grant a single glance. He turned to me, his expression full of concern. "He didn’t hurt you, did he?"

I quickly shook my head.

Just then, I noticed that passersby were starting to look in our direction. Some busybodies had even taken out their phones and started recording videos...

"Let’s go," I said, tugging on Sebastian Forrest’s hand. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Theodore Grant was currently the focus of public opinion, and I didn’t want Sebastian Forrest to get dragged into this quagmire.

Sebastian Forrest nodded and immediately led me away by the hand.

I didn’t look back, but I could imagine the ugly expression on Theodore Grant’s face.

But that had nothing to do with me anymore.

...

Once we were in the elevator, I finally pulled my hand from Sebastian Forrest’s grasp, feeling a little embarrassed. "Thank you for getting there when you did..."

’Otherwise, with the difference in strength between us, I’d never have been able to get away from Theodore.’

’That was a close call, though, running into Theodore while I was canceling the abortion. Thank goodness I managed to put him off...’

"I’ll teach you some self-defense moves when I have the time."

"Self-defense?" I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Isn’t that a little dramatic?"

Sebastian Forrest smiled, his dark eyes seeming to glitter. "Not at all. I think it’s necessary."

Seeing how serious he was, I could only concede. "Alright..."

"Also, Jude Miller just told me that they saved Clara Langley. Her life isn’t in danger for the time being..." Sebastian Forrest’s eyebrow raised slightly. "But the baby... is gone."

My eyes narrowed slightly. "She did it on purpose?"

Sebastian Forrest nodded. "Looks like it."

I pressed my lips together as a nameless rage flared within me. Perhaps because I was pregnant myself, I had a special reverence for the tiny life of an unborn child...

’But after what Clara Langley put it through, it would have been a miracle if the child had survived unharmed!’

"Clara Langley’s trying to destroy the evidence!"

’In her mind, now that the baby is gone, the only piece of evidence that could threaten her has disappeared.’

’If she uses that silver tongue of hers, she might even be able to talk Theodore into taking her back...’

DING—

Just as I was lost in my thoughts, the elevator doors chimed and slid open. I snapped out of it and followed Sebastian Forrest out, one after the other.

"Chelsea Joyce?"

Just then, someone called my name. I instinctively turned toward the voice and saw Vincent Lombard and Hailey Langley standing a short distance away, carrying food containers.

"What are you doing here?" Vincent Lombard’s expression soured the moment he saw me, and he practically spat the words through clenched teeth. "This is all your fault! Clara’s baby is gone because of you, you jinx! Are you only happy when you’ve turned our family upside down?"

His words made me laugh in anger. I shot back without holding anything back, "All I hear is ’Clara this’ and ’Clara that.’ You sound awfully close. The baby is gone, and even Theodore Grant hasn’t said a word, yet here you are, the supposed uncle, flying into a rage. Why is that? Don’t tell me the baby was yours?"

"You—"

Furious, Vincent Lombard raised his hand to slap me.

I had anticipated he would try something, so I had already stepped back. At the same instant, Sebastian moved forward, grabbing Vincent Lombard’s wrist and violently flinging it aside.

Vincent Lombard staggered, lost his balance, and fell to the floor with a THUD.
