Chapter 141: Chapter 141: You Bastard, Kneel Down

It wasn’t that I was intentionally hiding my pregnancy. It’s just that something like this is incredibly private—plus, the father is Sebastian Forrest...

Just as I saw Julian Hayes’s gaze land on my stomach, his face a mask of disbelief, and was about to come clean, Sebastian Forrest suddenly let out a soft chuckle. "Just kidding. Don’t take it seriously."

"..."

Julian Hayes shot Sebastian Forrest a slightly annoyed look. "President Forrest, not everything is a joking matter..."

The smile on Sebastian Forrest’s face faded. "Then I have to ask, what does my joking with my junior have to do with Mr. Hayes?"

Julian Hayes pressed his lips together and didn’t say a word, merely fixing Sebastian Forrest with a sharp gaze.

The two of them were suddenly staring each other down from a distance, their gazes clashing in midair. I could practically hear the sparks fly.

I had no choice but to step in and mediate. "Um, I’m getting a little hungry. Where’s my food?"

Only then did Sebastian Forrest look away. "Yours is in my office. Come on, I’ll take you."

"Hayes, let’s call it a day. We can deal with the rest tomorrow. You’ve had a long day, you should head home and get some rest."

Julian Hayes smiled at me. "Alright. You get some rest too. See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow."

...

The moment the door to Sebastian Forrest’s office closed behind us, I couldn’t help but frown and glare at him.

Sebastian Forrest, knowing what was good for him, immediately raised his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, my fault. I apologize. I’m sorry..."

His ink-black eyes were full of sincerity. ’He certainly knows when to yield.’

’As if he actually thinks he did anything wrong,’ I thought.

He obviously said that in front of Julian Hayes on purpose.

Otherwise, with his exceptionally high IQ and EQ, how could he possibly make a mistake like that?

"Why do you always have it in for Hayes? Do you two have some kind of history?"

Sebastian Forrest snorted. "I’d never even met him before."

"Then why..."

Sebastian Forrest pursed his lips. "Didn’t I tell you? His intentions toward you aren’t good..." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"..."

I couldn’t help but feel a little exasperated. "You’re overthinking things."

From the very beginning, Julian Hayes has never treated me as anything more than a colleague. It’s Sebastian Forrest and Chloe Miller who keep insisting he likes me...

It’s gotten to the point where I feel a little awkward every time I have to face him.

Sebastian Forrest didn’t seem to want to argue the point any further. He pointed to the food container on the coffee table. "Alright, enough talk. Hurry up and eat before your food gets cold."

At the mention of food, I realized I really was starving.

As Sebastian Forrest helped me open the container, he handed a steaming bowl of eight-treasure congee to me. "I heard Theodore Grant dropped by today?"

"Mhm." I knew he had his sources. Besides, this was his company, his own private domain; of course nothing could be kept from him.

"I also heard he sent you flowers, which you then threw in the trash?" As Sebastian Forrest said this, the corners of his mouth turned up in a clear look of schadenfreude.

"Mhm." I nodded again.

Sebastian Forrest smiled and was about to say something else when the phone in his pocket suddenly rang.

He glanced instinctively at the caller ID, and the smile on his face vanished without a trace.

I quickly swallowed the food in my mouth and mouthed at him silently, ’What’s wrong?’

Sebastian Forrest gave me a reassuring smile. "You go ahead and eat. I’m going to take this call."

Watching Sebastian Forrest step out of the office with his phone, I couldn’t help but feel a little worried.

I had almost never seen him wear such a grave expression...

Something must have happened, something that even he found difficult to handle.

My anxiety grew, and suddenly the food in my mouth tasted like cardboard. The delicious flavor from moments ago was completely gone.

I don’t know how much time passed before Sebastian Forrest returned.

He saw I was already clearing the dishes and said, "Don’t worry about that, just leave it. Someone will get it. It’s getting late, I’ll take you home..."

"Do you have something to take care of? Why don’t you go handle it? I can get home on my own."

Sebastian Forrest smiled. "It’s nothing. Let’s go."

But before I could even get up, I heard the sound of hurried footsteps outside. I looked at Sebastian Forrest in confusion and saw that the color had drained from his face.

The next second, the office door was thrown open, and Henry Paxton ran in, his face frantic. "President Forrest, this is bad..."

"What’s the panic?"

But before Henry Paxton could finish, Sebastian Forrest cut him off, his face grim. He then turned to look at me. "You take Chelsea home first."

"Y-yes, sir." Henry Paxton nodded hastily and hurried over to me. "Miss Joyce, we should go now."

"What’s wrong?" I asked, my face full of concern. "Did something happen?"

Henry Paxton looked like he was about to say something, but then he met Sebastian Forrest’s eyes and quickly looked away. "I can’t explain it all at once," he finally said. "How about I tell you on the way? We need to go now..."

Even though I hadn’t interacted with Henry Paxton much, I knew that the executive assistant who stayed by Sebastian Forrest’s side couldn’t be just anybody.

And he certainly wouldn’t be someone who would show such panic and unease.

Thinking back to the phone call Sebastian Forrest had just taken, a sense of foreboding washed over me. "Senior Forrest, did something happen?"

"It’s nothing, my father is just here..." Sebastian Forrest said with a smile.

But to me, his smile seemed tinged with cold mockery. "My father and I haven’t seen each other in probably half a year. Things might get a little... intense in a bit, so you shouldn’t stick around for the show."

I let out a quiet sigh of relief. Hearing Sebastian Forrest mention his father actually made me relax.

’That gave me a scare. I thought it was some kind of catastrophe.’

’Oh, it’s just Sebastian Forrest’s father. Nothing to worry about, then.’

With that, my heart eased. They were father and son who hadn’t seen each other in a long time; they must have a lot to talk about. It wasn’t my place as an outsider to stay any longer.

"Alright, I’ll head out then. You and your father have a good talk..."

Sebastian Forrest smiled. "Mhm."

However, just as Henry Paxton and I were heading for the door, it was suddenly thrown open. Two lines of burly men in black suits barged in, automatically forming two rows on either side.

I was startled by the sudden display and took an instinctive step back. Just as I was wondering who could command such an entourage, a middle-aged man strode into the room.

He bore a strong resemblance to Sebastian Forrest, only his features were sharper, more severe. His thin lips were pressed into a line, his sharp brows were slightly furrowed, and he exuded an overwhelming, intimidating aura.

The moment he entered, he raised his hand high and brought it down in a vicious slap across Sebastian Forrest’s face. "You bastard! Kneel!"
