On Our Wedding Day My Husband Announced His First Love Online-Chapter 142: You Unfilial Son, I’ll Beat You to Death
The slap was earth-shattering. I was so stunned I instinctively clapped a hand over my mouth, my face a mask of panic.
The blow knocked Sebastian Forrest’s head to the side. Half his face began to swell rapidly, the red imprint of a hand clearly visible. It was obvious how much force had been behind that slap!
But Sebastian Forrest remained frozen in that position. After a long moment, he finally turned his head, his gaze cold. "Why should I kneel?"
A cold sneer spread across Eugene Forrest’s stern face. "Don’t you know what a stupid thing you’ve done? A grown man, played for a fool by some woman, and you have the nerve to stand there and play dumb?"
"What about the Forrest Family’s status and position? If you don’t care about our good name, I do!"
I listened from the side, terrified. But hearing Eugene Forrest tear into Sebastian Forrest word by word, my own heart ached as if it were being sliced by a knife.
A man like Sebastian Forrest, so proud and strikingly handsome, was seen by the world as an unreachable figure, like a cloud in the distant sky. Yet in his own father’s mouth, he was nothing but worthless mud on the ground!
’Even I, an outsider, am this incensed just listening to this. How must Sebastian Forrest himself feel?!’
’He must be so full of grief and anger!’
"How have I been a disgrace?"
Just then, Sebastian Forrest let out a sudden, cold laugh. His gaze burned as he met Eugene Forrest’s, sharp and unyielding. "Just because I’m brave enough to pursue the one I love? Unlike you, who abandoned the person you loved for the sake of the so-called ’family’?!"
"You—" Eugene Forrest’s face flushed crimson with rage. His already sharp gaze turned murderous, as if he wanted to end Sebastian Forrest on the spot.
But Sebastian Forrest showed no fear. He pushed his tongue against his smarting cheek and continued to question him coldly. "I don’t see where I’m wrong. But you, Father? You’ve lived your whole life for those so-called empty ideals, failing as a husband and a father. Do you really think you were in the right?"
"You rebellious whelp! I’ll kill you today!" Eugene Forrest roared, grabbing the ashtray from the coffee table and hurling it at Sebastian Forrest.
’That ashtray was made of thick, heavy glass! If that hit him in the head, it would cause a concussion, if it didn’t kill him outright!’
"No!" I cried out, instinctively lunging toward Sebastian Forrest.
Sebastian Forrest’s expression flickered. He spun around, pulling me into his arms and taking the full force of the ashtray on his back.
"Senior Forrest, are you okay?" I asked, my face etched with worry. ’Sebastian Forrest’s father is completely barbaric and unreasonable! Isn’t he supposed to be some powerful tycoon? Is violence the only way he can communicate with his own son?!’
"I’m fine. Stay back, you might get hurt."
"But..."
I instinctively started to say something else, but before I could, Sebastian Forrest gave me a slight shake of his head. I swallowed the words that were about to leave my lips.
"Bring me my whip!"
Eugene Forrest roared, and a moment later, a riding crop was placed in his hand.
When I saw him raise the crop and bring it down hard on Sebastian Forrest’s body, I panicked. I instinctively tried to rush forward to stop him, but Sebastian Forrest shot me a sharp glare from under furrowed brows, and Henry Paxton immediately moved to block my path.
Eugene Forrest struck again and again, putting savage force into every blow. Dark stains began to soak through Sebastian Forrest’s black suit, but through it all, his back never bent an inch.
"Eugene Forrest, have you lost your mind?"
Just then, a sharp, cold voice rang out from behind them. Sebastian Forrest’s mother, Catherine Bennett, strode forward, her face grim. She seized Eugene Forrest’s raised wrist. "That’s enough. Are you trying to kill my son?"
Eugene Forrest frowned, clearly not expecting Catherine Bennett to show up.
He shot Sebastian Forrest a venomous glare, then wrenched his hand free from Catherine Bennett’s grasp and threw the whip to the floor.
The moment he did, I rushed forward. Staring at the bloody mess of Sebastian Forrest’s back, my vision blurred with tears.
"Does it hurt?" As soon as I asked, the tears started to fall.
Sebastian Forrest just smiled at me, his expression betraying no pain, as if the dozens of lashes hadn’t just torn his back to shreds.
"All this for *her*?" Eugene Forrest’s cold eyes swept over me. "She’s barely divorced, and she’s already made you lose all composure. The Forrest Family may not be snobs who despise the poor and chase the rich, but we will never allow someone with such impure motives through our door!"
"She’s the only one I want!" Sebastian Forrest bit out, the words almost a snarl. The resolution in his voice struck me like a clap of thunder.
I suddenly remembered what he’d told me a few days ago—that he would sweep away all of my worries...
’I didn’t understand it then, or maybe I refused to. I just couldn’t see how he could possibly achieve something like that so easily...’
’But now—’
Tears welled up unbidden, and my throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton.
"I’ve been in love with her for over ten years. All this time, she’s been the only one in my heart. I want to love her, to take care of her for the rest of my life. A feeling like this... a person only gets it once in a lifetime! I refuse to end up living like you two!"
"You—" Eugene Forrest’s expression faltered, as if Sebastian had struck a nerve.
But Catherine Bennett, standing to the side, let out a cold huff. "What? Did my son say something wrong?"
Eugene Forrest pressed his lips into a thin line and turned away without another word.
But Catherine Bennett had no intention of letting him off the hook. She moved to stand directly in front of him and said coldly, "Or do you think he’s a fool being led around by the nose by a woman? Unlike you, so cold and heartless, always knowing how to weigh the pros and cons!"
"That’s not what I meant..."
"Then what did you mean?"
"I..." Eugene Forrest was at a loss for words.
Catherine Bennett coolly retracted her gaze. When her eyes fell upon Sebastian Forrest, a rare warmth filled them. "I, for one, find my son’s courage and conviction to be precious qualities. If only I had been as brave as him back then..."
At that, Catherine Bennett’s voice broke off, and she said no more.
But the color drained from Eugene Forrest’s face.
The scene unfolding before him seemed terribly familiar, reminding him of himself from over twenty years ago...
Perhaps it was this moment of stunned silence that gave Catherine Bennett her opening. She pressed her lips together and said in a low voice, "People like us, who couldn’t even manage our own marriage, have no right to judge them."
Then, her gaze fell upon me. "In fact, I think this young woman is quite lovely. A fine match for my son..."
"Catherine Bennett!" Eugene Forrest snapped, clearly not ready to concede.
But Catherine Bennett simply pulled a file from her handbag and handed it to Eugene Forrest. "Take a look for yourself."
Frowning deeply, Eugene Forrest took the file. As his eyes scanned to the last page, they shot wide open—
