On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 117: Slapping Ruby Lynch’s Face
Ruby Lynch scoffed, her face full of disdain and ridicule.
Maya Jacobs ignored her and turned to Director Sheffield. "Uncle Sheffield, Mrs. Rivers doesn’t know Chloe well. I’ve worked with her for several months, so I know exactly what kind of person she is."
Director Sheffield looked hesitant.
Mrs. Jacobs suggested, "I think Miss Sterling seems like a composed person. Let her take a look."
Upon hearing this, Ruby Lynch shot a cold glare in her direction. Mrs. Jacobs didn’t dare confront Ruby Lynch directly, so she pretended not to see it.
With no other choice, Director Sheffield stopped hesitating and said to Chloe Sterling, "Miss Sterling, this way, please."
Chloe Sterling’s expression was impassive. Without sparing Ruby Lynch a single glance, she followed Director Sheffield into the bedroom.
Mrs. Sheffield lay on the bed, her face pale and her eyes shut tight. Chloe Sterling walked over, placed her fingers on Mrs. Sheffield’s wrist to feel her pulse for a moment, and then gently lifted her eyelid to examine it.
"Miss Sterling, what on earth is wrong with my wife?" Although Director Sheffield was known for his temper, he was incredibly caring and considerate toward his wife. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"It’s nothing serious," Chloe Sterling said calmly.
"Then why does she keep fainting recently?"
"These are allergy-induced fainting spells."
"An allergy? To what?"
Chloe Sterling took a small porcelain vial from her bag and waved it under Mrs. Sheffield’s nose. Immediately, Mrs. Sheffield’s eyelids fluttered as if she were about to wake up.
"We’ll have to wait until Mrs. Sheffield wakes up to ask her what she came into contact with before each of these episodes," Chloe said, putting the vial away.
Just then, Mrs. Sheffield slowly opened her eyes.
"Honey, you’re awake!" Director Sheffield said, his voice full of emotion.
Mrs. Sheffield raised a hand to her temples. "I fainted again?" she asked softly. "And this is...?"
Director Sheffield quickly made the introduction. "This is Miss Sterling, a friend of Maya’s. She’s from The Medical College, and she’s the one who woke you."
Mrs. Sheffield sat up. "Thank you, Miss Sterling."
"It was no trouble. Mrs. Sheffield, do you remember coming into contact with anything unusual before each time you fainted recently?" Chloe asked, getting straight to the point.
"Contact with what?" Mrs. Sheffield looked puzzled.
"Your fainting is caused by an allergic reaction. We have to find the allergen to solve the problem permanently."
"An allergy!" Mrs. Sheffield was surprised. "But I don’t have allergies. I’m not allergic to anything."
"It’s not a common allergen. That’s why I need you to think carefully, Mrs. Sheffield. Before each of these fainting spells, did you come into contact with anything that you don’t normally use?"
"Things I don’t normally use?" Mrs. Sheffield thought for a long moment, then shook her head. "No, it was all the same things I always use."
"That’s not possible," Chloe Sterling said with certainty. "You must have used something new, something you hadn’t used before."
Mrs. Sheffield pressed her temples. "I honestly can’t remember."
After a moment of thought, Chloe Sterling asked, "May I look around then?"
Seeing his wife awake so quickly, Director Sheffield’s trust in Chloe grew. He immediately said, "Of course. Please, Miss Sterling, feel free."
As Chloe Sterling surveyed the room, Director Sheffield added, "I’ll go out and let everyone know that you’re awake."
"Who’s out there?" Mrs. Sheffield asked.
"Our friends are here. They were all worried about you."
"I’ll go with you," Mrs. Sheffield said, starting to get up.
Director Sheffield immediately stopped her. "You just woke up. You should stay in bed. Don’t get up. I can just go tell them."
"I’m much better now, I’m fine."
After a brief back-and-forth, Mrs. Sheffield got up anyway and left the bedroom with her husband.
Chloe Sterling followed them out.
Seeing the three of them emerge, Maya Jacobs immediately broke into a smile. "Auntie, you’re awake!"
"Yes." Mrs. Sheffield gave an embarrassed smile. "I’m sorry for making you all worry."
Maya Jacobs smiled. "I knew Chloe would be able to help you."
Mrs. Sheffield replied, "Yes, it’s all thanks to Miss Sterling. And I should thank you, too."
Ruby Lynch’s expression faltered. She hadn’t expected Chloe Sterling to actually revive Mrs. Sheffield. Still, she refused to believe that some girl from the countryside had any real skill. ’It must have been a coincidence. Mrs. Sheffield was probably about to wake up on her own anyway.’
Mrs. Sheffield noticed Ruby Lynch and said with some surprise, "Mrs. Rivers, you’re here too!"
Ruby Lynch composed herself, putting on a look of concern. "Yes, I heard you were ill and rushed right over."
"That’s very thoughtful of you, Mrs. Rivers."
Maya Jacobs walked over to Chloe Sterling and asked, "Chloe, what’s going on with Auntie? Why does she keep fainting?"
"It’s allergy-induced fainting," Chloe explained. "Mrs. Sheffield must have recently been exposed to a rather uncommon allergen."
"An allergy! What is she allergic to?"
"Mrs. Sheffield can’t yet recall what she came into contact with before these recent episodes."
Mrs. Sheffield rubbed her temples. "My head feels so heavy right now. I really can’t seem to remember."
"It’s all right. Take your time, there’s no rush." With that, Chloe Sterling began scanning the room again.
Ruby Lynch stood to one side, watching her coldly, her expression clearly saying, ’Let’s see what kind of stunt you can pull.’
Chloe Sterling paid her no mind whatsoever, her gaze sweeping coolly past her to look elsewhere.
Seeing how completely she was being ignored, Ruby Lynch’s face darkened further. "What are you gawking at, turning your head every which way? You look like you’ve never seen a nice place in your life!"
Chloe Sterling’s sharp gaze shot to her. "If you don’t like it," she said coldly, "you can get out."
Ruby Lynch instantly flared up. "What did you say?! You ill-mannered little brat!"
Director Sheffield frowned slightly and cut in, "Mrs. Rivers, Miss Sterling is trying to find the source of my wife’s allergic reaction."
"What allergy!" Ruby Lynch snorted. "Director Sheffield, I’d advise you not to be so quick to trust her. Mrs. Sheffield has been fainting and then waking up on her own. I think it was just a coincidence that she happened to wake up when she did."
Maya Jacobs sneered. "Mrs. Rivers, you’re really willing to grasp at any straw to discredit someone."
Mrs. Jacobs immediately pulled at her arm. "Maya."
’They couldn’t afford to provoke the Rivers Family.’
For her mother’s sake, Maya Jacobs held her tongue.
Mrs. Sheffield was taken aback for a moment. Although she didn’t know what was going on between them, she knew for a fact that it was Chloe Sterling who had revived her. She said, "Mrs. Rivers, it really was Miss Sterling who woke me up."
Since she was, after all, in the Sheffield family’s home, Ruby Lynch just shot the mother and daughter a cold glare and said no more.
Just then, a maid standing nearby seemed to recall something. She spoke up suddenly, "Ma’am, didn’t you recently switch to a new perfume? It seems like you had used that perfume before you fainted the last few times. Could you be allergic to that perfume?"
Hearing this, Mrs. Sheffield subconsciously glanced at Ruby Lynch, then said, "That’s unlikely. I’ve worn perfume for years and have never had an allergic reaction."
The maid, unaware of the perfume’s origin, pressed on, "But you’ve never used this brand before, have you?"
Chloe Sterling immediately asked, "Where is the perfume? Let me see it."
Director Sheffield also chimed in, "Go get it, quickly."
Before Mrs. Sheffield could say anything else, the maid had already run off to fetch the perfume. She brought it back and handed it to Chloe Sterling. "Miss Sterling, take a look. This is the perfume Ma’am recently switched to."
Chloe Sterling took the perfume, sniffed it, and then looked at the list of ingredients on the bottle. She then asked Mrs. Sheffield, "What is your blood type?"
Mrs. Sheffield replied, "My blood type is quite rare. It’s Rh-negative."
Chloe Sterling’s expression cleared with understanding. "Then there’s no doubt. It’s definitely a problem with this perfume."
Nearby, Ruby Lynch suddenly snapped, "Nonsense!"
