Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Jealous of Each Other

Lockwood Group.

"Sir, Mrs. Lockwood... she... she left with Silas Coldwell." Henry Chamberlain didn’t dare to raise his head as he continued, "It seems she’s probably found out that her identity has been exposed."

"So?" Jasper Lockwood’s voice was cold. "You also think she went to Silas Coldwell for help?"

Henry Chamberlain quickly replied, "I believe Mrs. Lockwood probably wants to help ease your burden, Sir. Even though we’ve been deliberately guiding the narrative to say the Rivers Family released this fake news to get revenge on you, some people will still have their doubts."

Jasper, of course, understood this matter wouldn’t be resolved so easily. He also knew Chloe was doing this to help him deal with his troubles.

But the thought of her making a deal with Silas Coldwell for this infuriated him. He could even picture the smug look on Silas’s face right now. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Silas was indeed feeling quite smug. As he watched Chloe walk into his laboratory, the grin on his face never wavered.

"What do you think of the lab?"

Chloe glanced around the luxurious, high-tech laboratory and said flatly, "Not bad."

"If you need anything else, just ask. I’ll arrange for two assistants to be at your disposal."

"Okay."

Silas suddenly chuckled. "You being so obedient... I’m suddenly not used to it."

Chloe glanced sideways at him. "This is just a transaction."

Silas said leisurely, "Perhaps after this, you’ll discover it’s better to be by my side."

Chloe didn’t want to argue with him about it. After taking a turn around the huge laboratory, she said, "Everything here is fully equipped. There’s no need to prepare anything else. I’ll be here at nine a.m. sharp tomorrow."

"Alright." Silas’s lips curled into a wicked smile as he added, "I’ll send someone to the Lockwood residence to pick you up."

"..."

Knowing he was doing it on purpose, Chloe ignored him.

Silas continued, "If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes. I’ll have Zane Stratton pick you up tomorrow."

Chloe looked at him and finally spoke. "You’re the head of the mighty Nocturne Group. Can you please stop being so childish?"

"Otherwise, you could live here. I’ll buy you a house nearby. What style do you like?"

Chloe didn’t say a word and turned to walk out.

Outside the lab, Silas asked, "Where are you going? I’ll give you a ride."

Chloe replied, "To Lockwood Group, to see Jasper. You still want to give me a ride?"

After a few seconds’ pause, Silas said with a smile, "Sure. I can even drop you right at his office door."

"I think I’ll spare you the trouble."

Chloe hailed a taxi, got in, and left.

Silas didn’t stop her. Instead, he immediately instructed Zane Stratton to arrange for a little show in Country E—one where they would "capture" Lynn Chester, only for her to "escape."

「One hour later.」

Chloe Sterling arrived at the Lockwood Group.

Jasper Lockwood was in a meeting. Henry Chamberlain walked over and said, "Mrs. Lockwood, please have a seat in the office. Sir will come find you as soon as his meeting is over."

"Okay." Chloe checked the time and asked, "About when will he be done?"

"I’m not sure about that. There’s been a lot going on recently, so it might run a little long."

"I see."

Chloe walked into Jasper’s office to wait for him, and she waited until noon.

During that time, Henry Chamberlain brought her coffee, then fruit, and now, he brought lunch.

"Mrs. Lockwood, this is the lunch we’ve prepared for you. Please go ahead and eat. Sir’s meeting isn’t over yet."

Chloe glanced at the food on the table, then lifted her sharp eyes to Henry Chamberlain. "Is the meeting not over, or does he just not want to see me?"

"Of course it’s not over. How could Sir not want to see you? You know better than anyone how much he cares about you. It’s just that this meeting is very important, and he really can’t stop."

Chloe picked up her phone and said coolly, "Then I’ll just wait for him here. We can have lunch together when he’s finished. You can take this away for now."

"But..." Henry Chamberlain looked troubled. "Mrs. Lockwood, we’re not sure when Sir will be done. You shouldn’t wait for him. Please eat first."

Chloe didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on her phone, her stance resolute.

Henry Chamberlain had no choice but to turn and leave.

Five minutes later, the office door opened again, and Jasper Lockwood walked in.

Chloe looked up at him and asked pointedly, "Is the meeting over?"

"Not yet. We’ll continue after lunch." As he spoke, Jasper sat down beside her.

’He’s clearly upset, yet he’s still worried about whether I’ve eaten.’ Chloe’s heart softened, and her tone did as well. "Jasper, I don’t want to cause you more trouble because of me."

"So you went to Silas Coldwell." Jasper’s deep, elegant eyes fixed on her as he continued, "Instead of coming to me after you got the news, you went to another man. Do you trust him that much?"

"It’s not that I trust him. Having him create the illusion that I’m not in Crestfall is the fastest and most effective solution right now."

"You made a deal with him?"

"Yes." Chloe said, "Jasper, I’m not some delicate flower. I can’t just hide behind you with a clear conscience and let you solve all the problems by yourself, especially when this trouble is because of me."

"It’s not because of you. It’s my fault for not considering this. Serena Lockwood had no idea you were actually Lynn Chester. She just put out fake news on purpose, but it accidentally hit the mark. This is a grudge between me and the Rivers Family that you got dragged into by accident, so I should be the one to solve it."

"Even if it was an accident, it’s still about me. You shouldn’t be the only one solving it. I have the right to solve it too."

Just as the two of them were at a stalemate, there was a sudden knock on the door, followed by a woman’s voice. "Jasper, are you in there?"

The moment she finished speaking, the office door was pushed open. Stella Morgan stood in the doorway. She froze for a second when she saw Chloe was also there, then said, "I’m sorry, I didn’t know Mrs. Lockwood was here. Please, continue your conversation. I’ll come back later."

Jasper said, "The documents are with Henry Chamberlain. You can just get them from him."

"Okay, I understand." Stella immediately backed out and closed the door.

Thinking about how Stella liked Jasper and the way she had just called him ’Jasper,’ Chloe blurted out, "That’s a rather familiar way to address him."

"Is it?" Jasper countered. "Is it as familiar as ’baby’?"

Chloe: "..."

The thought of Silas Coldwell calling Chloe ’baby,’ the deal they’d made, and the fact that they would likely be seeing each other often from now on made Jasper’s expression darken further.

"What kind of deal did you make with him? What did it take to get him to agree? Did you join the Nocturne Group?"

Chloe said, "No, I just have to help him finish a project."

"How will you do that? Do you need to go over to the Nocturne Group?"

After a few seconds, Chloe replied, "I do need to go to his laboratory, but I’ll finish it as quickly as possible."

"So you’re going to be seeing him often from now on!"

"I’m not seeing him, I’m going to the lab."

"There’s no difference!"
