"I’m going to put my things down first." Before she could continue, Jasper Lockwood pushed open the bedroom door and walked in.

Chloe Sterling stood frozen in a daze. They had been married for several months and had slept together more than once. If she said she wasn’t used to it, it would seem a bit melodramatic.

"You get settled in. I’m going to the study for a bit."

Jasper Lockwood glanced back at her. "Okay. I’ll call you when it’s time for dinner."

"Okay."

Chloe Sterling feigned a calm response and then headed for the study.

Just then, Henry Chamberlain came upstairs. He walked to the bedroom and knocked on the door. "Sir."

A moment later, the door opened. Jasper Lockwood appeared in the doorway. "What is it?"

Henry Chamberlain said, "Silas Coldwell... did indeed help Madam. The news that Lynn Chester was captured by Silas in Country E has spread everywhere. Moreover, he put on a show in front of a group of people, scolding his subordinates and making everyone believe that he had caught Lynn Chester, only for her to escape."

He pushed open the study door and saw the woman sitting at the desk, engrossed in a book. "Chloe," he said, "stop reading for now. Let’s go downstairs and eat."

Chloe Sterling looked up at him, then put down the medical book in her hands and went downstairs with him.

In the elevator, her phone suddenly buzzed. Chloe Sterling glanced at the screen and saw it was a message from Silas Coldwell.

Chloe Sterling replied: [Okay.]

After replying, she put her phone away. When she looked up, her eyes met the man’s dark gaze, and she felt inexplicably guilty, even though she hadn’t done anything wrong.

With a DING, the elevator doors opened.

She said nothing more and turned to go to the changing room. She took off her overcoat and put it in a locker. When her fingers brushed against the silk scarf around her neck, she frowned but didn’t take it off.

’Jasper Lockwood obviously left these marks on purpose.’

She then grabbed a white lab coat, put it on, and walked out.
