On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 80: All Mysterious
Silas Coldwell’s expression darkened again.
Chloe Sterling stood up, turned, and left.
Silas Coldwell sat motionless in his chair, not even having the strength to stand up.
His subordinate, who had been waiting outside, saw that he hadn’t moved for a long time and decided to go in.
"Boss, Miss Chester has been gone for a while. Are you going to just keep sitting here?"
Silas Coldwell’s face was livid. He pressed his lips together, saying nothing.
Seeing him silent and looking like he was ready to kill someone, the subordinate didn’t dare say another word.
After a moment, Silas Coldwell suddenly said, "Sit down."
"Huh?" The man looked confused.
"I told you to sit down! We’ll leave later!" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Oh." The man cautiously sat down beside him. After a pause, he asked, "Boss, would you like a cup of coffee?"
Silas Coldwell didn’t answer. His eyes were practically spitting fire.
’He didn’t even have the strength to hold a coffee cup right now!’
A moment later, the subordinate seemed to realize what had happened and asked in astonishment, "Boss, you didn’t get... by Miss Chester..."
Silas Coldwell shot him a death glare, and the man immediately shut his mouth, not daring to continue. But he was basically certain his guess was correct.
’The boss had been tortured by Lynn Chester again.’
About half an hour later, Silas Coldwell finally regained his strength. He shot to his feet and ground out through clenched teeth, "Lynn Chester! You’ve got some nerve!"
Chloe Sterling arrived at The Medical College and headed for the laboratory building.
Not far away, Phoebe Sinclair sat in her car, her hateful gaze fixed on Chloe Sterling’s back from behind her sunglasses.
’How is she still waltzing in and out of The Medical College? Why hasn’t Silas Coldwell made a move yet?’
’She had made herself perfectly clear that day, and Silas Coldwell must have heard. So why wasn’t he doing anything to Chloe Sterling?’
’Silas Coldwell was the only one who dared to openly challenge Jasper Lockwood. He wasn’t afraid of him. Logically, the best way for him to get at Jasper would be to go after Chloe Sterling, but he hadn’t made a single move.’
Phoebe Sinclair couldn’t figure it out.
’Did she have to do it herself?’
’But on second thought, that wouldn’t work. If Jasper Lockwood found out, she would be in for it!’
’It wasn’t worth offending Jasper Lockwood over a country bumpkin. All she had to do was use someone else.’
After a moment of thought, a glint flashed in Phoebe Sinclair’s eyes as she came up with another idea.
「An hour later.」
Chloe Kensington, wearing sunglasses and high heels, strode into the Crimson Wing Dojo.
Putting on an arrogant air, she looked at Chase Langdon and said, "You’re the owner of this dojo? You know Chloe Sterling, right?"
Sensing her ill intentions, Chase Langdon’s attitude was none too friendly. "Who are you? Is it any of your business?"
"Fine, I won’t waste my breath on you." Chloe Kensington took out a check and handed it to Chase Langdon. "All you have to do is admit that you’re in a relationship with Chloe Sterling, that she slept with you, and that you’ve been carrying on like this, and this check is yours.
Take a good look at the number on here. It’s enough for you to open a hundred dojos in Crestfall. And with all this money, you can have your pick of beautiful women."
Chase Langdon’s face fell instantly. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he said icily, "So how much of your time would this money buy? My boys could use some fun."
Not expecting to be humiliated like this, Chloe Kensington’s face changed drastically. "You worthless piece of trash, what did you just say?! Believe it or not, I’ll have this dump of a dojo smashed to pieces!"
"Well, listen to you. What big talk." Damian Rivers suddenly emerged from the side, his tone mocking.
Chloe Kensington’s face was a picture of shock. "Young... Young Master Rivers."
Damian Rivers walked over, his sharp gaze fixed on the woman. "Did Phoebe Sinclair send you?" he interrogated.
"No!" Chloe Kensington denied it immediately. "I came on my own."
’She couldn’t expose Phoebe Sinclair.’
"I own a stake in this dojo. If anyone dares to touch a single brick here, I’ll make sure they don’t see tomorrow’s sunrise!" Damian Rivers’s voice was cold and full of menace.
Chloe Kensington’s legs went weak from fear, and she nearly lost her balance. She bit her lip, speechless. She never expected Damian Rivers to be here, let alone own a stake in this place.
"Go back and tell Phoebe Sinclair that if she dares to touch Chloe Sterling, I’ll teach her the meaning of regret!"
Chloe Kensington was shocked again. She couldn’t help but say, "Young Master Rivers, the Rivers Family and the Sinclair Family have been friends for generations! You and Phoebe grew up together! How can you treat her like this for a country bumpkin?"
"Country bumpkin?" Damian Rivers’s eyes narrowed. "Believe it or not, I can have you sent to the countryside for ten-plus years."
Chloe Kensington didn’t dare say another word. She grabbed the check and fled the dojo.
Chase Langdon’s expression was grim, a terrifying murderous aura radiating from him. He had been hiding his identity since coming to Crestfall, and some people really thought he was a pushover.
It was the first time Damian Rivers had seen Chase Langdon like this, looking like a demon straight out of hell. He couldn’t help but be taken aback for a second.
"Are... are you okay?"
Chase Langdon snapped out of it, his voice icy. "No."
Damian Rivers was speechless.
In the car, Phoebe Sinclair was furious when she learned Damian Rivers had thwarted her plan. "She’s usually so resourceful, but she’s this stupid when it comes to dealing with one woman."
Chloe Kensington said indignantly, "What is Damian Rivers thinking? Disregarding the relationship with the Sinclair Family for some country bumpkin... I’m speechless."
「Time flew by in a flash.」
On this day, Chloe Sterling woke up as usual, washed up, changed, and went downstairs.
Jasper Lockwood was already waiting for her in the dining room. Seeing her come down, he said, "Morning."
"Morning." Chloe Sterling smiled slightly and walked to the dining table to sit down.
"Are you going to The Medical College today?" Jasper Lockwood asked.
"Mhm, I have to."
"What time do you finish?"
"I’m not sure, but it shouldn’t be too late."
"Can you leave at three?"
"Three o’clock!" After a thought, Chloe Sterling said, "That’s a bit early. I probably won’t be finished with my work."
"Can’t you continue tomorrow?"
Chloe Sterling looked at him, thought for a moment, and asked, "Is there... something you need?"
"Mhm, yes. Something very important."
Hearing this, Chloe Sterling paused, a look of suspicion on her face. "What’s so important?"
"I’ll tell you later." Jasper Lockwood was being mysterious. After a pause, he added, "I’ll pick you up from The Medical College at three this afternoon sharp. If you’re not done, just leave it for tomorrow. What we’re doing today is very important."
Chloe Sterling nodded. "Okay."
"In that case, don’t drive yourself. I’ll take you, and then it’ll be easier to pick you up in the afternoon."
"Okay."
After breakfast, Jasper Lockwood drove Chloe Sterling to The Medical College.
Jasper Lockwood watched her back without blinking until she completely disappeared from sight, then said, "Let’s go."
’He knew today was Chloe Sterling’s birthday, and he had prepared something special.’
’He would make her fall in love with him.’
Before Chloe Sterling even reached the lab building, her phone started buzzing with one message after another.
First, it was Chase Langdon asking what time she was leaving The Medical College.
Then came Julian Xavier, asking if she was at The Medical College today, and telling her he’d reserved a private room at a bar for her to celebrate her birthday.
Then Jean Kensington messaged, asking how she was planning to spend her birthday.
Chloe Sterling replied to each of them, saying she had something on today and they shouldn’t worry about it.
At noon, Julian Xavier came directly to The Medical College.
’He had asked Chloe Sterling when her birthday was before and had remembered it ever since.’
Outside the laboratory.
"Chloe, today’s your birthday. What do you have going on? Or is someone else already celebrating with you?" Julian Xavier asked with concern.
After a few seconds, Chloe Sterling said, "President Lockwood needs me for something. I don’t know what it is specifically."
"You didn’t tell him it’s your birthday? Taking a day off should be fine, right? A birthday only comes once a year. I’ll celebrate it with you—I’ve already decorated the bar. We can invite those people from your lab, too. Aren’t you on pretty good terms with them now? It’ll be a lively party."
Chloe Sterling smiled. "Thanks, but I’ll pass. I already promised President Lockwood. Besides, it’s just a birthday. I don’t really care; I never used to celebrate it much anyway."
"The past is the past, and now is now. Or we could do it later. President Lockwood can’t possibly monopolize your entire evening, can he?"
"You can’t be sure about that," Chloe Sterling blurted out.
"Hm?" Julian Xavier raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Er... I mean, we might be busy until late." After a pause, Chloe Sterling added, "You don’t have to go to all this trouble for me. I really don’t think I’ll have time today."
"Sigh." Julian Xavier let out a soft sigh. "Alright, but you have to accept my gift."
"A gift?"
"Mhm. It’s in my car, though. I’ll go get it for you."
Chloe Sterling didn’t refuse. She smiled, "Okay."
"Don’t be so formal." Julian Xavier chuckled. "I’ll go get it now. Wait here for me."
