On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 83: Happy Birthday
The hacker could indeed take control of the drones, make them return, and then detonate them.
’Ruthless. The Second Master is truly ruthless.’
Henry Chamberlain was filled with admiration and immediately said, "Yes, sir. I’ll pass on the order right away."
Chloe Sterling didn’t stop him. She even wanted to see the scene for herself.
Jasper Lockwood looked away and then turned to Chloe Sterling. He had expected her to stop him, but she said nothing.
Seeing his unreadable expression, Chloe Sterling asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Jasper Lockwood answered honestly, "I thought you would stop me."
Chloe Sterling replied, "Of course not!"
’Silas Coldwell was clearly provoking Jasper on purpose. There was no way Jasper would just let that go, so how could she possibly stop him?’
"Why not? I thought you didn’t want me to get into a conflict with him."
"He’s provoking you so openly. You’d never be able to let it go. If I tried to stop you, you’d probably just get even angrier."
’Jasper had gone to so much trouble to prepare this birthday for her; how could she possibly make him angry?’
Jasper Lockwood said no more. He picked up his wine glass, tilted his head back, and downed it in one go.
Chloe Sterling poured him another glass. "You can drink as much as you want tonight. If you get drunk, it’ll be my turn to take care of you."
Jasper Lockwood glanced down at the wine in his glass and suddenly said, "I thought you didn’t remember anything."
Chloe Sterling was speechless. "..."
"Or have you remembered something?"
"No!" Chloe Sterling refused to admit it. "I just think drunk people are always a bit of a handful. So, to be fair, you can drink as much as you want today. If you get drunk, I’ll take care of you."
Of course, Jasper Lockwood had no intention of getting drunk. He set his glass aside. "It’s your birthday. How could I get drunk and make you take care of me?"
"What’s the big deal?"
"Of course it’s a big deal! I can’t ruin the mood."
Chloe fell silent. "..."
’The mood seems to be ruined already.’
Just then, the words "Baby, Happy Birthday" in the night sky winked out, and the swarm of drones flew off toward the city.
A gust of night wind blew past, bringing a hint of chill with it.
Jasper Lockwood immediately asked, "Are you cold?"
"I’m fine, not cold."
Chloe Sterling looked up at the glowing aircraft in the sky, then got up and walked out of the cabin onto the deck. She stood at the railing, feeling the gentle breeze.
The evening wind was at its most pleasant this time of year—a little cool, but not quite cold.
A moment later, Jasper Lockwood came over and wrapped his arms tightly around her from behind. "If you like this, we can stay out at sea for a few days before heading back."
"That’s not necessary. This is enough."
"Enough?"
Chloe Sterling’s lips curved into a small smile. "Mhm. If we stay too long, the novelty will wear off. We can come back next time."
After a moment’s pause, Jasper Lockwood said, "Alright."
Happy times always fly by. Before they knew it, it was already eleven o’clock at night.
The air over the sea grew colder, and the two of them went back inside the cabin.
"Are you sleepy?" Chloe Sterling asked.
Jasper Lockwood replied, "Not tired. You?"
"I’m not tired either. How about... we sit for a little longer?"
"Alright."
So the two of them sat down by the window again.
"By the way, I’d like to make a trip to the countryside in the next few days," Chloe Sterling said.
"The countryside? Is there a reason?"
"I’m going back to find a medicinal herb. It might be able to cure the baby. I want him to be able to speak before he turns four."
"Are you going back with your friend?"
"Mhm, and the baby. The three of us will go back together."
"Then I won’t go with you. But you have to let my bodyguards go with you."
"Alright." This time, Chloe Sterling didn’t refuse. After all, she wouldn’t be alone; she’d have Jean Kensington and the baby with her. ’Even though I’m a good fighter,’ she thought, ’if we run into an emergency, I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to protect them both. Having bodyguards is a safer bet.’
"Where is the baby’s father?" Jasper Lockwood suddenly asked.
Chloe Sterling stammered, "Er... I’m not really sure about that."
Seeing her hesitation, it seemed to be a sensitive subject, so Jasper Lockwood didn’t press the issue.
They suddenly fell silent, and the atmosphere became a bit awkward. Chloe Sterling pursed her lips, unable to think of a topic to ease the tension.
After a long silence, Jasper Lockwood finally broke it. "It’s getting late. Go to bed. Your room is on the third floor, the second door from the right."
"What about you?" Chloe Sterling blurted out.
"What about me?"
"You... aren’t you going to sleep?"
"I still have some things to go over with Henry Chamberlain. You go to bed first."
"Then don’t stay up too late."
"Mhm."
Chloe Sterling stood up. She had just turned and taken a single step when Jasper Lockwood suddenly called out from behind her, "Chloe."
Hearing his voice, Chloe Sterling stopped in her tracks. The moment she turned around, his tall figure was already looming over her. His hand came up to cup the back of her head, and then his lips were on hers.
Chloe Sterling froze for a second, then, without moving, slowly closed her eyes.
After what felt like an eternity, Jasper Lockwood finally lifted his head slightly and said in a low, husky voice, "Happy birthday. Good night."
Chloe Sterling’s cheeks were flushed crimson. Her beautiful eyes gazed at him as her lips parted. "Good night."
Chloe Sterling went back to her room, leaving Jasper Lockwood sitting alone downstairs, his dark, deep eyes gazing at the large words still glowing in the night sky.
Just then, Henry Chamberlain walked over. "Second Master, why didn’t you go upstairs to rest with your wife?"
He truly didn’t understand what his master was thinking. ’He spent two years searching for Chloe Sterling, and now that he’s finally found her and they’re even married, why is he still being so restrained!’
"Second Master, you’ve done so much for your wife. I can tell she’s very touched, and she isn’t keeping her distance from you like she did at the beginning. Why must you..."
Jasper Lockwood said slowly, "I don’t want her to be merely ’touched.’ I’m not doing things for her to demand something in return. And I especially don’t want her to think I’m doing all this just to get her into bed."
Henry Chamberlain was speechless. "....Your wife probably wouldn’t think that, would she?"
Jasper Lockwood shot him a sideways glance and asked coldly, "Did the drones explode at Silas Coldwell’s villa?"
Henry Chamberlain replied, "They did. Blew the villa all to hell."
"Is he dead?"
"Er... no."
’If Silas Coldwell were that easy to kill, he’d have died a hundred times over by now.’
’Besides, the drones weren’t that powerful. They’d only be lethal at close range, and Silas Coldwell is no idiot. He would’ve dodged for sure. He probably didn’t even get a scratch.’
「Meanwhile.」
Silas Coldwell stood on his villa’s third-floor balcony, looking down at the wrecked courtyard and shattered windows. His expression was terrifyingly grim.
Behind him, a subordinate spoke cautiously, "Boss, that Lockwood bastard has gone too far. Should we hijack his drones and blow up his yacht?"
Silas Coldwell’s eyes narrowed. After a long moment, he said, "No need. Don’t spoil my darling’s birthday fun."
The subordinate was speechless. "..."
’Didn’t your little stunt already do that...?’
「The next day.」
The sun rose slowly over the horizon, and a ray of light streamed into the room.
Chloe Sterling opened her eyes to the azure sky and the boundless sea outside her window. She stretched comfortably, then got out of bed, washed up, and went down to the main deck.
Jasper Lockwood was sitting by the window, drinking coffee. When he saw her come down, his lips curved into a slight smile. "Sleep well?"
"Mhm, very well," Chloe Sterling said as she walked toward him.
Jasper Lockwood immediately instructed a crew member to serve breakfast.
"When are we heading back?" Chloe Sterling asked as she sat down.
"By the time we finish breakfast, we should be arriving at the docks. I’ll take you to The Medical College first."
"I’m not going to The Medical College today."
"Where are you going then?"
"To see Jean."
"Alright."
When Chloe Sterling entered the apartment, Jean Kensington stared at her in shock. "What are you doing here?"
Chloe Sterling replied, "What? Is there a problem?"
"Aren’t you supposed to be having a romantic getaway with Jasper Lockwood? Those big words over the sea last night—that was him, right?" Jean Kensington smiled. "So romantic. Why didn’t you two stay out at sea for a few more days?"
Chloe Sterling changed the subject directly. "Where’s the baby?"
"Chase Langdon took him to the martial arts gym to play."
"Take the next couple of days to pack what you need. We’re leaving for the countryside the day after tomorrow."
After studying her for a moment, Jean Kensington said, "Chloe, you didn’t cut your trip short because of me and the baby, did you? Is Jasper Lockwood going to hate my guts?"
Chloe Sterling replied, "Don’t worry, he won’t."
