Chapter 688: The Time Time Fruit! 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Ryuunosuke noticed Akame’s confusion, and a smile tugged at his lips.
Akame’s instincts in battle were razor sharp, but when it came to puzzles that required too much thinking, she could look a little... dazed.
"It’s not clear yet. Let’s wait and see."
"Come on. We’re ready to set off too."
After taking a deep breath, Ryuunosuke turned to Gaino.
"Understood, Captain."
Gaino nodded and went to notify the others.
Once everyone had gathered, the Ark of Eternity set sail.
...
Meanwhile, on an island in the New World.
"These Dragon Hunter Pirates are so damn annoying."
"Once I get that thing, I’ll crush them at the root!"
Momonosuke spat the words out through clenched teeth.
This was not the first time he had nearly died at the hands of the Dragon Hunter Pirates.
Worse, once they crossed paths, an attack was practically guaranteed.
Next time, he might not be lucky enough to crawl away.
So the Dragon Hunter Pirates had to be erased before they grew any further.
"So."
Blackbeard stood to the side, watching Momonosuke with amused eyes.
"Now you can tell me what this so called inheritance is, right?"
After all, they were already cooperating.
Momonosuke kept talking about wiping out the Dragon Hunter Pirates, but Blackbeard understood the truth.
How could anyone wipe them out?
That problem was absurdly hard.
"I think you already know why I became a child, right?"
Momonosuke took a breath and looked at Teach.
"You mean... the Time Time Fruit?"
Blackbeard’s eyes widened slightly.
Teach’s obsession with Devil Fruits made it easy for him to connect the dots.
The only recorded user of the Time Time Fruit was Kozuki Toki, the woman who boarded Roger’s ship with Oden.
Toki was Momonosuke’s mother.
Could the inheritance Momonosuke meant be that Fruit?
"The Fruit."
"I know where it is."
Momonosuke’s voice lowered.
"But getting it takes time, and Wano right now won’t let me retrieve it safely."
"The Dragon Hunter Pirates rose in less than ten years, right?"
"If we can go back and act before they grew up..."
"Then the Dragon Hunter Pirates would be nothing but trash."
A smile slowly spread across Momonosuke’s lips.
Blackbeard’s excitement flared instantly.
He did not want to destroy the Dragon Hunter Pirates out of righteousness.
He simply knew he lacked the power to crush them.
But Momonosuke’s plan?
It was terrifyingly feasible.
What they needed most now was that Fruit.
And from Momonosuke’s words, the Time Time Fruit had to be hidden inside Wano.
"Where exactly is the Time Time Fruit?"
"If it was in Wano, why didn’t Orochi get it back back then?"
Teach asked, suspicious.
Orochi ruled Wano for a long time.
If the Fruit truly existed there, it should have been found already.
"I can’t tell you the exact location right now."
"It’s not that I don’t trust you, Teach."
"This is something I have to go and take myself."
Momonosuke answered flatly.
He said he trusted Teach, yet he still refused to reveal the location.
Teach understood.
A trump card like that was never shared.
If Teach had it, he would not tell anyone either.
Strangely, that made Momonosuke’s words feel even more believable.
If Momonosuke had confessed everything too easily, Teach would have doubted him.
"So do we head straight to Wano now?"
"Even with Dragon Hunter Pirates stationed there, if I move, I can lure those grunt squads away."
Teach offered, showing he could still be useful.
"No."
"We wait until the Dragon Hunter Pirates are fighting those Guardians and Evictors, then we move on Wano."
"Hold on."
"I’ve endured this for years. If I fail to hold back now, everything I’ve done will be wasted."
Momonosuke’s eyes sharpened, vicious and patient.
He survived Dressrosa for so long precisely because he could endure.
Even last time, facing the Dragon Hunter Pirates, he chose to retreat without hesitation.
Now was still a time for patience.
"I see."
Teach nodded slowly.
"Then we find a place to hide for now."
"In at most ten days, the Dragon Hunter Pirates will lose interest in the high seas."
Teach’s reasoning was simple.
The Dragon Hunter Pirates were being dragged into a higher level chase.
Three handyman squads arriving at once meant the Dragon Hunter Pirates had tracked their whereabouts.
Yet they did not come personally.
That meant they were too busy to care about pirate affairs.
So Teach only needed to wait another ten days, then make his move on Wano.
...
Just then, a ship arrived beside the island.
A man in black stepped off the deck and landed on the shore.
"Someone’s coming!"
Momonosuke and Blackbeard both stood up instantly, eyes snapping toward the coastline.
After what they had just survived, neither of them ever let their Observation Haki drop.
Even on a deserted island, they stayed alert.
But there was only one person.
"Captain Teach. Lord Momonosuke."
The man in black appeared directly in front of them, as though he had always been there.
Both of them were shaken.
With their perception, they had not even seen how he approached.
If he were an enemy, they might not have had time to react at all.
"You two should go first."
"You need help, don’t you?"
The man’s voice was calm, confident, almost casual.
Teach did not trust him for a second.
This man did not look like someone who brought good news.
"Who are you?"
Teach’s gaze was cold.
"Who I am isn’t important."
"But I know you need my help."
The man in black raised a hand and waved casually to the side.
A terrifying slash ripped out.
Half the island was cleaved cleanly in two.
He had not even drawn a blade.
Just a wave, yet it carried power that made the air feel heavy.
Momonosuke’s eyes narrowed.
"What exactly do you want, and how do you plan to help us?"
Momonosuke had nothing left to lose.
He did not think this man was here to steal from him.
Instead of hesitating, it was better to force the conditions out into the open.
"You’re planning to head to Wano, aren’t you?"
"We can leave now."
"The Dragon Hunter Pirates are on their way to Bigglesmore Island."
"If you can really activate the Time Time Fruit..."
"Then I’m willing to join you and annihilate the Dragon Hunter Pirates."
The man in black spoke quickly, like he had been following their conversation from the beginning.
Both Momonosuke and Teach froze.
Momonosuke had only just told Teach about this.
No one else should have known.
So how did this man in black know at all?
