Oops Alpha, Wrong Luna-Chapter 27
Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Kael’s POV.
I stood close to the bed, my heart pounding, my eyes locked on the cup of tea in my hand. The liquid was dark, murky, with a sharp smell that stung my nose, nothing like the herbal tea it was supposed to be.
Aria stood by the nightstand, her silver gown dirty from the Fang Pack fire, her blue eyes wide with fear.
The maid, her hands trembling, her face pale, was inching toward the door, like she could slip away unnoticed.
My wolf, Zeus, growled low, his senses screaming danger. This tea, this maid; something was wrong, and I wasn’t letting it touch my mate.
"Have you tasted this?" I asked, my voice low, my eyes flicking to Aria.
She shook her head, her hands shaking, her breath quick.
Relief hit me, but it was short, my anger rising as I turned to the maid. She bowed low, her tray rattling, and tried to slip out, her steps quick, desperate.
My growl ripped through the room, deep and loud, stopping her cold. She froze, her eyes quivering, her hands clenched tight.
"Turn around," I said, my voice hard, my boots heavy as I stepped closer. She didn’t move, her head still bowed, her body trembling.
"Now!" I snapped, my wolf close, his growl rumbling in my chest.
She turned slowly, her eyes wide, her face pale as ash. "Who sent you to give my Luna this tea?" I asked, my voice sharp, my eyes boring into hers.
The maid shook, her lips quivering, no words coming out. Aria stepped closer, her voice soft but tense.
"What’s in the tea?" she asked, her eyes flicking between the maid and the cup in my hand.
Her fear hit me like a punch, my chest tightening. She’d been through too much; the fire, Celeste’s threat, and now this?
The maid stammered, her voice barely a whisper. "It’s... herbal, Luna. Just herbs." Her words were weak, her eyes darting to the door, and my blood boiled.
She was lying, and I could smell it, her fear thick, her hands shaking so hard the tray wobbled.
"Herbal tea?" I said, my voice cold, twirling the cup in my hand, the liquid sloshing.
"Last time I checked, I didn’t order any tea for this room." I stepped closer, towering over her, my eyes narrowing.
"So who sent you?" My growl was louder now, Zeus snarling, ready to snap.
The maid gasped, her face red, her eyes wide with panic.
When she didn’t answer, I grabbed her neck, my fingers tight, lifting her slightly off the floor.
"Who sent you!" I roared, my voice shaking the room, my wolf on edge.
The tray crashed to the floor, the sound sharp, and she struggled, her hands clawing at mine, her breath choking.
Aria gasped behind me, her voice small, but I didn’t look back, my eyes locked on the maid’s terrified face.
She still wouldn’t talk, her eyes squeezing shut, tears leaking. My patience snapped. I tilted her head back and poured the tea down her throat, the dark liquid spilling over her lips.
She coughed, choking, her hands flailing as I tossed the cup aside, the clay shattering on the floor.
She fell, crying, her body shaking, her coughs loud and desperate.
My heart pounded, rage burning through me. She’d brought poison to my Luna, my mate, and I wasn’t letting that slide.
"Guards!" I shouted, my voice booming. Two wolves burst in, their armor clinking, their eyes sharp.
"Take her," I said, pointing at the maid, my voice hard.
"Punish her until she can’t walk. Find out who sent her." They nodded, grabbing her arms, dragging her out as she sobbed, her cries echoing down the hall.
The door slammed shut, the sound heavy, final.
I turned to Aria, my chest heaving, my fists still clenched. Her eyes were wide, her face pale, her hands trembling as she stared at the broken cup.
"What was in it?" she asked, her voice small, shaking, her eyes meeting mine. Fear poured off her, and my heart ached, Zeus whining softly, wanting to comfort her.
"Poison," I said, my voice stern, no softness, no smile.
"From now on, you check everything. Who you talk to, what you drink. Be careful, Luna." My words were a warning, sharp and clear.
I wanted to pull her close, to tell her I’d keep her safe, but I held back, my face hard. She didn’t know I knew she was Aria, and I wasn’t going to scare her more, not now.
She nodded, her eyes dropping, her hands twisting together. "Okay," she whispered, her voice barely there, her fear like a weight in the room.
I hated seeing her like this, so small, so scared, but I needed her sharp, alert, until I found out who was behind this.
I stepped closer, my voice softer but still firm. "How did you know about the fire?" I asked, my eyes searching hers.
"Back at the Fang Pack. You knew something was wrong before it happened." My hand rested on her shoulder, gentle, trying to steady her shaking.
She swallowed, her breath shaky, her eyes flicking away. "Kyra... my wolf," she said, her voice soft, trembling.
"She warned me. Said we were in danger, that we had to leave. I didn’t listen at first, and then..." Her voice broke, tears welling in her eyes.
"I almost died. You got hurt because of me." Her words were a whisper, her guilt heavy, and my chest tightened, a mix of anger and protectiveness.
I patted her back, my hand gentle, my voice low. "You’re safe now," I said, my eyes locked on hers.
"Get dressed. We’ve got an important guest coming." I wanted to say more, to tell her I knew her secret, that I’d protect her no matter what, but I stopped myself.
She wasn’t ready, and I wasn’t pushing her.
Before she could ask who the guest was, the door opened, and Beta Brian stepped in, his face tense, his brown eyes serious.
"We need you now, Alpha," he said, bowing slightly, his voice urgent.
I nodded, my jaw tight, and turned to Aria. "I’ll be back," I said, my voice firm, giving her a long look. She nodded, her eyes still wide, and I followed Brian out, the door clicking shut behind me.
My heart was heavy, my mind racing with the maid’s lie, the poison, the fire.
Aria was left alone, and I hated it, knowing she was wondering if she was even safe in the packhouse now.
