Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 51 - 47 Yazhi City
51: Chapter 47: Yazhi City
51 -47: Yazhi City
While Luo’er only took a small step forward, he felt as if he had crossed billions of light-years.
The scenery whizzed past him rapidly, too fast for his naked eyes to capture.
Just a moment later, he felt his body had stopped advancing.
He composed himself and then smelled the strange scent of dust in the air.
He steadied his mind and found that the scenery before him had drastically changed.
The skyscrapers and modern buildings that had previously stood were completely replaced by disordered otherworld-style buildings.
The ground was paved with stone slabs, covered with dust, appearing disordered and chaotic.
“This is…” Before Luo’er could begin speaking, Tangmo next to him let out an amazed sound.
“Welcome to Otherworld, Yazhi City!” A man dressed in otherworldly clothing walked up, introducing himself, “I am your guide, follow us!”
“Thank you!” Luo’er nodded slightly.
Although the man was of mixed-white race, Luo’er saw his black eyes and was not suspicious of him.
“Holy crap, this is Otherworld, huh?
Pretty disappointing.” From behind, Hu Daoke’s voice of astonishment came over.
He was so curious as to look around, that he not even realized his briefcase had fallen to the ground.
“Your suitcase fell; how are you a bodyguard?” Cheng Ziang turned around and said to him.
“Bug off, we’re already in Otherworld, quit being a proud peacock.” Hu Daoke kicked his briefcase, saying irritably.
“Enough jokes, hurry up and get on the carriage.
This place ain’t safe.” The guide said to them, leading them to a prepared carriage.
With the five of them aboard, the carriage immediately set off, heading towards their secret base.
The city where the Otherworld Gate was located was known as Yazhi City, though this was a transliterated title.
This city was originally a small town at the junction of the Three Kingdoms, with a winding river flowing past the city edge.
Before the eruption of the Otherworld War (also known as the Prophetic War in Otherworld), this place was not as booming as it is now.
Since the end of the two wars and the establishment of a peaceful channel of communication between the two worlds, Yazhi City, where the Otherworld gate is located, has quickly become an emerging major city, even beginning to showcase some Earth-style buildings.
The Otherworld gate was not inside Yazhi City, but in the suburbs.
However, this area had long been developed into an important economic zone.
The direction the coach was heading in was not towards the city, for it required scrutiny from city gate guards, and the city was full of prying eyes.
Hence, Headquarters had not set their secret base inside the city, but in a manor in the suburbs.
The owner of this manor was a Blaiqi merchant named Durman Flach, who conducted trade between Earth and Otherworld, and therefore had many connections.
He had been bought by the Headquarters a long time ago to serve as an informant, responsible for supplying information from Otherworld.
In return, Durman could get Earth goods, including food, fertilizer, and even weapons, easier than others.
Relying on the trade communication between Earth and Otherworld, Durman’s business grew bigger, and his cooperation with Headquarters got deeper, so he agreed to lend out one of his manors as the secret base for Headquarters.
The carriage bumped and rolled over the uneven paved road, which made the passengers, who were first-time carriage riders, feel slightly uncomfortable.
After about half an hour, they arrived at a huge private manor.
The outer perimeter of the manor was guarded by armed guards, but there were not many people inside the manor.
When the carriage pulled up in front of the only building in the manor, a gigantic five-story mansion infused with the style of Otherworld.
This would be their secret base for future transfers, and the location of the front line command of Headquarters.
“Finally you’re here.” As soon as Luo’er got off the carriage, he heard a familiar voice.
He looked up to see Wang Xu grinning at him.
“Instructor, what are you doing here?” Tangmo did not know that Wang Xu had been reassigned as the chief of the frontline command, so she exclaimed in surprise when she first saw him.
“Of course,” Wang Xu laughed, “Starting from today, I am the highest official of the frontline command, responsible for analyzing information from Otherworld, and also, your direct supervisor.”
“Congrats,” Lue’er congratulated him, though his smile did not reach his eyes.
“Can’t you wholeheartedly congratulate me just once,” Wang Xu shrugged, smiling bitterly.
“If it’s you who is our commander, then we’re in good hands.” To see a familiar face in Otherworld was comforting for Tangmo.
“Come in.
From today, this will be your secret base.
You will be sent out for assignments from this place and all information will gather here.
Of course, any orders will also be issued from here.” With these words, Wang Xu led everyone into the mansion.
“Wow, if we could stay here forever, it would be amazing.” Hu Daoke, looking at the luxurious surroundings, couldn’t help but state honestly.
“In between missions, you can return here to rest, of course, only temporarily.” Wang Xu walked ahead without looking back.
“Are you alright here?” Lue’er asked, referring to something he was concerned about.
“Don’t worry, the level of magic power here isn’t high.
The maintenance of the Otherworld Gate requires a lot of magic power, so the concentration of magic power around here isn’t high.
An average person from Earth can stay here for a month or two without any problems.” Wang Xu casually explained.
He was happy Lue’er had voiced his concern for him.
“Are you going to be permanently stationed here?” Lue’er asked.
“From what we know now, that seems to be the case.
However, I’ve heard that the Otherworld Research Center is working on a medicine to resist Magic Power Erosion, so you don’t need to worry about me too much,” Wang Xu said with a laugh.
“I’m not concerned about you, I just want to know who will be the highest-ranking officer in charge when you’re resting,” Luo’er said indifferently.
“Well,” laughed Wang Xu awkwardly without getting angry, “so far it’s always been me.”
“Until when?” Luo’er questioned further.
He still remembered how his father Luo Chuan had spent five years in the deep valley and died because of irreversible Magic Power Erosion.
“At least until the Otherworld war is essentially over, given the current situation, we don’t know whether we’ll need to send troops to the Otherworld,” Wang Xu replied, sighing.
“Well, then let’s hurry up and get moving.
If we’re not going to fight, let’s get everyone out of the Otherworld.”
“Thanks for your concern,” Wang Xu turned around, smiling happily, completely ignoring Luo’er’s annoyed expression.
“Come and get your equipment, then report to the backyard for magic testing,” Wang Xu said as he led them through a corridor to a room deep within the villa.
“Another magic test?
Hasn’t it already been done?” Tangmo tilted his head in confusion.
“Those were data that simulated by the computers, which can’t represent your real magic level.
Also, the data we collect needs to be returned to the academy for revisions.”
“Well, if the test says I’m a magic genius, that would be funny,” Hu Daoke joked.
As the one with the worst magic adaptability in the team, he was always skeptical of the results.
“That’s not possible, a magic idiot is destined to be a magic idiot!” Cheng Ziang coldly retorted.
“You make it sound like you’re so high and mighty, aren’t you just the same,” Hu Daoke shot back defiantly.
“I’m a bit better than you, I just choose not to use it, that doesn’t count!” Cheng Ziang taunted with a challenging smile.
“You’ve been butting heads with me lately, are you itching for a fight?” Hu Daoke clenched his fists, grinning through gritted teeth.
“You two, cut it out!” Seeing the pair squabbling again, Tangmo quickly stepped in with the authority of an elder sister.
The two glared at each other before turning away in silence.
Luo’er picked up the outfit with his name on it and began to change, he was stopped by Tangmo.
“What’s wrong?” Luo’er asked in confusion.
“Once we take off these clothes, we won’t be a couple anymore,” whispered Tangmo, pouting.
“We were never a couple to begin with,” Luo’er replied, laughing yet also wanting to cry.
Just a moment ago, Tangmo had been displaying her authoritative elder sister persona, but she had softened in the next instant.
“That…
that is…” Tangmo mumbled, not willing to admit it.
“Quickly change your clothes.
We’re not parting forever, aren’t we going to be together in the future?” Luo’er comforted her.
“Will we really be together in the future?” Tangmo asked, tilting her head.
“Uh, not that kind of together…” Luo’er replied shyly, scratching his head.
Baiyue stood nearby holding her own clothes, coldly observing the two, not uttering a word.
Finding her staring, Luo’er hesitated before shaking off Tangmo’s hand and went to change his clothes.
Headquarters had prepared a suit of adventurer-style clothing, a common sight in Otherworld, but it had secrets.
The material was from Earth, ensuring breathability while enhancing its abilities to lock in warmth and repel water.
On the other side of the outfit, they had imprinted the most advanced Dual Defense Runes the headquarters could manage, which consisted of physical defense and magic protection.
This was to maximize the ability to resist external harm.
It was said that these clothes alone could withstand close-range gunfire from small-caliber pistols and when inserting a bulletproof plate, it could maximally resist a direct shot from a 7.62 caliber bullet.
A full set of these clothes included shirt, pants, boots, gloves, and attached carry-on equipment.
Everyone had been assigned specific gear, which was not interchangeable.
For instance, Luo’er, being the rifleman, was given a carry-on kit designed to hold four magazines.
Cheng Ziang, being the reconnaissance soldier, was given a cloak fitted for throwing daggers, with only a few pistol magazine pouches on his belt.
Considering Baiyue’s preference for wearing a hat to conceal herself, the headquarters had designed a short cloak with a hood specially for her to wear.
After changing into their assigned gear, the five of them headed to the backyard to test their magic.
The results of the test were not vastly different from the simulated data from the Earth computers.
Tangmo and Baiyue were undoubtedly the magic geniuses of the team, while Hu Daoke trailed even further behind, which frustrated him enormously.
