Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 67 - 63 New Objective
67: Chapter 63: New Objective
67 -63: New Objective
They left the room, the air once again laden with the smell of fish and wine, diluting the strong smell of blood.
The trio, disregarding the curious glances around them, made their way quickly towards the door.
The man seemed to have kept to the bargain, deciding not to follow the three out of the pub.
Nevertheless, Luo’er didn’t dare to let his guard down.
He signaled the sniper point cover and then led the two away from the area at a brisk pace.
The trio moved through the chaotic slums, despite urban planning, illegal structures were rampant, and civilians who couldn’t afford a proper house had to construct makeshift shanties as their homes.
From time to time, guards would come to do a sweep, demolish some shanty and tragically bring a few people who had been unfortunate right into trouble.
The dirty environment allowed diseases and crime to foster.
At the edge of the slum was a church that healed diseases for the impoverished civilians.
However, these priests who only understood basic healing magic were helpless face to all kinds of diseases.
They could only pray for these people to endure.
The purpose of healing magic is to accelerate the human body’s metabolism and thus speed up the healing of wounds.
It is helpless against diseases caused by parasites and viruses.
They can only delay these people’s death, and cannot completely cure them.
This is undoubtedly a painful torture for these overly compassionate priests and nuns.
As they were about to leave the slum, Luoer and the others stopped to wait for the sniper group to catch up.
Here, they witnessed a nun praying for a dying civilian.
She kneeled on the ground, with her hands pressed tightly together and her head bowed in prayer.
The body was then carried away by others to be disposed of outside the city.
The trio silently watched this routine.
Before entering the Otherworld, they had been vaccinated against almost every infectious disease found there, even those that had been eradicated on Earth.
When encountering a new world, the infectious disease is the most deadly, no matter if you are a human from Earth or a being from the Otherworld.
In the age of Exploration, the diseases carried by the European colonists left the natives of the New Continent powerless, resulting in mass deaths.
If conditions permit, humans from Earth could potentially eradicate all infectious diseases in the Otherworld within two to three years, but obviously, they don’t plan to do so.
After all, there would be no benefit to Earth if a powerful Otherworld comes into being.
Although the existence of magic greatly undermines the advantage of Earth’s Armed Forces and magnifies the advantage of the Otherworld Military, Earth has entered the stage of the fourth industrial revolution and the gap in civilization cannot be overlooked.
It is because of this gap in civilization that Earth has the confidence to establish order in the Otherworld.
Once the Otherworld quickly enters the Industrial Revolution, Earth’s influence on the Otherworld will sharply decline.
And once it reaches that point, a war between Earth and the Otherworld will inevitably break out again.
By then, it’s hard to predict who will win, but what is clear is that the order Earth had established in the Otherworld over the course of 30 years will cease to exist.
While they were waiting, Luo’er sent a new magic messenger to the front line command center, informing them of the current situation and suspecting the merchant called Tarute Alofflin might be connected with the weapon disappearance case.
After the magic messenger was sent off, the sniper group finally arrived, and the group quickly retreated back to the pub to wait for new instructions from Headquarters.
Having found out who was behind the assassination, Luo’er felt somewhat reassured.
Though their information gathering throughout their journey largely depended on forceful interrogation, they managed to unravel the mystery and uncover the truth, a sense of achievement filled the team.
Soon after, Tangmo received a response from the Forward command.
She recorded it right away, not even looking at it before passing it to Luo’er.
Luo’er paused for a moment, then took the note.
Reading the message sent by Headquarters, Luo’er couldn’t help but frown.
“What does it say?” Hu Daoke grew uneasy at Luo’er’s expression.
“We are on the right track,” Luo’er looked at everyone, then said, “Tarute Alofflin is indeed connected with the weapon disappearance case.”
“So he’s trying to get us because he’s afraid we’ll find out about his dirty work?” Hu Daoke asked.
“It’s not clear yet,” Luo’er replied thoughtfully, “Headquarters said that recent trade deals involving weapons were all linked to Tarute.
He has participated in six arms deals, and though he wasn’t the main handler, weapons disappeared three times during those deals.
Given the situation, Tarute seems to be the best breakthrough point.”
“How did he know about us?” Cheng Ziang asked a critical question.
“We can’t conclude yet, but one thing’s certain, the CIA plays a crucial role.
Don’t forget, we had a mole before we entered Australia!”
“You mean, the mole informed the Americans about us!” Hu Daoke said with sudden realization.
“Let me try to piece together the sequence of events,” Luo’er paused for a moment, then went on, “The mole shared with the CIA that Headquarters was planning to send people to the Otherworld for investigation, with the weapons disappearance case being a top priority.
Hence, the CIA set up an ambush outside our garrison area, forcing us to bypass three garrison areas before we could reach Ulysses City.”
“After confirming our entry to the Otherworld, the CIA could not reach us with their power, so they entrusted their partners to issue an assassination order.
The partner they found was Tarute Alofflin.
This explains why Tarute is well acquainted with our situation and even our appearances.”
“So it seems we’ve been on edge for half a month, all thanks to the Americans.” Hu Daoke clenched his fist in anger.
Having heard Luo’er’s deductions, Cheng Ziang fell into deep thought and remained silent.
Luo’er saw him and asked, “Do you have anything to say?”
“How long has it been since we were attacked?” Cheng Ziang suddenly asked.
“About a week?” Hu Daoke looked at Luo’er, responding hesitantly.
“Seems about right!” Luo’er nodded.
“It’s already been over a week.
It only takes a little over three days to go from where we were ambushed to Holy Heart City.
And since the assassin already knew exactly when we’d arrive at the ambush spot, there’s no point in him waiting for no reason.
Yet so far, the assassin hasn’t reported back to the Assassin’s League and the client has never inquired.
They only remembered when we struck their door.” Cheng Ziang continued.
“What do you mean?” Luo’er was taken aback.
“If we exclude the Assassin’s League’s negligence, I suspect that the merchant named Tarute doesn’t actually care about the assassination, he’s only putting on a show for the Americans.” Cheng Ziang analyzed calmly.
“You’re saying Tarute just went through the motions, placed an assassination request in the Assassin’s League, and then carelessly left it out of his hands?” Luo’er asked.
“Guess so!” Cheng Ziang replied.
“It’s possible,” Luo’er nodded and said, “Tarute is not concerned about the assassination, so the reward he offered would only attract low-quality assassins like the Blood Wolf Mercenary Corps.
So he probably doesn’t know yet that we’re not dead.”
“So, we’re going to kidnap him?” Hu Daoke turned to him and asked.
Luo’er nodded, saying, “The instructions from headquarters are to use this guy as a breakthrough as soon as possible, and clear up the disappearance of the ammunition.”
“Then it’s settled, let’s go right away, kidnap him, and all things will be clear!” Hu Daoke slapped the table and said.
“Do you know where he is now?” Cheng Ziang rolled his eyes, asking disdainfully.
“Uh…” Hu Daoke stalled, then looked at Luo’er.
“It’s not hard to find him, but we need the support from headquarters.” Luo’er said.
“Headquarters?”
“Yes,” Luo’er nodded, then said, “Using the Blaiqi merchant’s business intelligence network, it’s easy to find out where Tarute is now.”
Before they had established their intelligence network, they could only rely on the business intel network of their Blaiqi partners.
This network covered almost the entire continent.
The intel the headquarters had on Otherworld before they arrived all came from this network.
“So our next step is to kidnap this Tarute, find out about the missing ammunition, and then kill him to avenge the assassination!” Hu Daoke made a chopping motion with his hand.
“Yes,” Luo’er nodded, turned to the dazed Tangmo and said, “Moumou, send a message to headquarters, inform them of our current plan, and ask them to search for Tarute’s whereabouts.”
“Oh, oh!” Tangmo, who had been in a daze watching the three men discuss, snapped back to reality, nodding hurriedly.
Soon, Tangmo sent a magic messenger to the frontline headquarters.
Luo’er told everyone: “Get ready, once headquarters issues the order, we will move immediately.
Also, be careful recently, the assassin league guys may come stir up trouble, after all, we just stabbed one of their people.”
“Stabbed!
Stabbed how many times?” Upon hearing this, Hu Daoke’s eyes lit up instantly, asking eagerly.
“Four times!” Luo’er answered truthfully.
“Nice!
Where did you stab?” Hu Daoke asked Cheng Ziang eagerly.
Seeing his eager face, Cheng Ziang couldn’t help but roll his eyes again.
Luo’er stepped forward to mediate: “Alright, let’s not discuss this.
Get ready, I’ll make something to eat.”
“Where did you stab, how did you stab, was it satisfying?” Hu Daoke ignored Luo’er’s words, continuing to press Cheng Ziang.
In his mind, only Cheng Ziang would do such a thing as stabbing someone.
Cheng Ziang turned his face away without a word, his expression stern.
Luo’er looked at them, sighed, turned and walked towards the door, only to notice that Baiyue had been waiting at the door for some time.
“Want to join?” asked Luo’er.
Baiyue did not respond but just nodded.
Luo’er instinctively looked back at Tangmo and noticed her dazedly leaning on the table.
He scratched his head, then followed Baiyue out of the room.
