Otherworld Advance Team-Chapter 68 - 64 Manor
68: Chapter 64: Manor
68 -64: Manor
Under Luo’er’s guidance, Baiyue’s cooking skills had significantly improved.
They prepared a meal together with perfect coordination.
By the time they returned to their room, Hu Daoke was still talking Cheng Ziang’s ear off, much to his annoyance.
After dinner, everyone huddled in one room, each focused on their respective tasks.
As a machine gunner, maintaining his weapon was critically important.
Hu Daoke disassembled his machine gun for cleaning, but found the task an uphill battle for a big man like himself.
Seeing his struggle, Baiyue, who was nearby adjusting a scope, stepped in to help clean.
Luo’er too was busy maintaining his weapon.
Although the AK series of rifles were robust and durable, they still needed upkeep.
Given their shift from hills to plains for their operations, he attached a valued optical sight to the rail of his rifle and passed it to Baiyue for calibration.
By evening, Tangmo received a message from Headquarters.
The message indicated that the plan was basically approved, and they were currently conducting a search for Tarute’s whereabouts through a commercial intelligence network.
All they needed was a little time and for them to standby.
So, for the next few days, they holed up in the inn, not daring to venture outside for fear that the Assassins League might locate and retaliate against them.
Despite the necessity, they couldn’t help but feel a ghostly presence due to their unwarranted stay.
After about five days, they finally received a message from Headquarters.
Tarute Alofflin was recuperating in the manor mentioned earlier by the middleman and was preparing to head to Yazhi City for the latest weapons trade deal.
The intelligence indicated that ambushing Tarute along the way was unrealistic given he had an elite guard team.
Hence, the Headquarters suggested they make their move in the manor to coax out the location of the missing weapons.
Once Tarute entered Yazhi City, they were stepping into CIA territory, making any further actions equivalent to walking into a trap.
Meanwhile, the Headquarters had commissioned a portrait of Tarute to help them identify their target.
The portrait depicted a fat man in his fifties or sixties with a large beard, dressed in luxurious silk.
Receiving the green light, the squad, already prepared, packed their bags and left the hotel, heading toward the nearest city gate.
Along the way, they did not encounter any suspicious persons.
It seemed Luo’er’s worry was unwarranted; the Assassins League didn’t appear to be looking for trouble, so they easily passed the inspection and left Holy Heart City.
Exiting Holy Heart City, they hired a coach outside to take them towards Tarute’s manor.
According to their calculations, they should reach the manor within two days, right when Tarute would be present there.
Based on the intelligence analysis, Tarute usually stayed in his manor for some time before departing for Holy Heart City.
They planned to capture him during this time and extract the necessary information.
After two days of travelling by coach, they finally arrived near the manor.
The terrain was mostly plains, but it was quite undulating. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
Near the manor was a tract of hills and woods.
Through their reconnaissance, Luo’er deemed it the best observation point, providing a top-down view of the manor.
Tarute’s guards were well-equipped.
They generally carried automatic and semi-automatic rifles to exert suppression fire over medium to long ranges.
Despite having advanced weapons from Earth, they evidently had not yet mastered earthling infantry tactics associated with modern weapons.
According to Earth’s military procedures, this woodland high ground near the manor is a must-control point for defending the manor.
Because from this position, one could overlook the whole manor, utilizing the superior fire power of the attackers.
However, it seemed that the guards had unintentionally neglected this high ground, which held great importance for Earth’s troops.
Luo’er’s team found this place untouched when they quietly sneaked in; it was the perfect sniping observation point and hence, they naturally made it their launching spot for the attack.
Upon reaching the woods, the sniper team began searching for sniper points, watching for Tarute’s movements and the manor guards’ shift changes.
Meanwhile, the rest prepared the equipment needed to penetrate the manor.
Having simulated such operations in the Virtual Battlefield, Luo’er decided to adopt that plan, which was to infiltrate the enemy base.
The sniping team was in charge of observing enemy movements and secretly eliminating potential threats.
The assault team’s task was to bypass the guards, infiltrate the manor to find and control Tarute, and extract the needed information.
Taking into account the line of sight of the sniper team and the concealment of the assault team, Luo’er determined that the best time to infiltrate would be at dusk.
They could receive support from the sniper team during infiltration, and once they entered the building, they could wait until darkness before taking further action.
For such covert operations, silencers were essential.
The silencers used by Luo’er and his team had evolved into literal noise eliminators over the years.
Even without subsonic bullets, they could significantly reduce noise and prevent flashes.
For the assault team, Luo’er, Tangmo, and Cheng Ziang were necessary; the swift Cheng Ziang was crucial to control Tarute, Tangmo’s magic provided indispensable support for the infiltration, and Luo’er could effectively command the operation amidst this.
Of course, the prerequisite for the infiltration operation was that Tarute would stay in the manor.
If he wasn’t there, any infiltration would be pointless.
Therefore, Luo’er didn’t act rashly but instructed the sniper team to conduct reconnaissance before the operation, not only to find where Tarute was but also to understand the activity patterns and shift changes of the guards.
In the evening, they lit a campfire on the lee side of the hills.
The hills acted as a barrier to the light, whilst the night obscured the white smoke, making it safe for them to rest around the fire.
At night, the clouds concealed the moon, rendering visibility on the ground too low for observation, and they didn’t have night vision goggles.
Therefore, the snipers could only retreat and make their report.
According to Hu Daoke, the manor’s guards were divided into patrollers and sentinels.
Patrols would come once an hour, and the sentinels would rotate every eight hours, guarding in shifts of Class Three.
These guards were generally equipped with automatic weapons from Earth, primarily AK series rifles.
Some marksmen were equipped with M14 semi-automatic rifles to compensate for the lack of precision in the AK series rifles.
Of course, besides Earth’s automatic weapons, they were also armed with armor and daggers for close combat.
For now, it appeared that they hadn’t noticed any stealth guards outside the manor, which eased the infiltration operation considerably.
However, the most crucial concern at the moment was Tarute’s whereabouts.
As long as he failed to appear, the squad’s infiltration operation aimed at him couldn’t proceed.
Only when the sniper team confirmed that Tarute was indeed in the manor would Luo’er and the others be able to embark on the infiltration mission.
To allow the sniper team to rest, Luo’er voluntarily undertook their scheduled night watch duty, standing guard with his gun.
At dawn, Baiyue from the sniper team was the first to wake up.
Seeing that Hu Daoke was still fast asleep, she didn’t wake him as roughly as Cheng Ziang would have; instead, she kept poking him until he woke up.
After waking her partner, the sniper team duo continued on to their sniper point and resumed their reconnaissance.
Luo’er woke up naturally after a few hours of sleep.
He woke everyone else, and they continued discussing the feasibility of their plan and the areas they needed to be cautious about.
“I took note of this during our last encounter,” Luo’er said, looking at the two others.
“We can’t reveal our names in front of the enemy anymore.”
“So, how are we going to call each other?” asked Tangmo.
After some thought, Luo’er responded, “I thought about it last night, and it’s best we use codenames instead, so we won’t expose our names in front of the enemy.”
“Moumou!” Luo’er looked at her, “You’re the Captain of our five-person team, so your code will be Number One, alright?”
“Oh!” Tangmo blinked, half-understanding but nodding her head anyway.
“And then, I’m the oldest among us, so my code will be Number Two,” Luo’er continued, pointing at himself.
“Cheng Ziang, you’re Number Three, is that okay?” Luo’er asked, looking at him.
Cheng Ziang didn’t reply verbally.
While cleaning his knife, he just shook his head.
“Carrying on, Hu Daoke will be Number Four and Baiyue will be Number Five.
But they don’t need this information now, we’ll let them know when they’re back!”
“Number One, Number Two, Number Three…” Tangmo clumsily pointed at herself and the other two, remembering their respective numbers.
“Listen carefully,” Luo’er said seriously.
“Whenever we’re in front of outsiders, we strictly use our code names.
Only when we’re together privately can we call each other by our names.
Got it?”
“Oh!” Tangmo nodded and continued remembering their codes.
At noon, Hu Daoke sneaked back and reported some exciting news.
They had identified someone in the manor whose facial features and body shape indicated that it was most likely Tarute Alofflin, who they had been searching for.
Once the target was confirmed, their infiltration operation was immediately launched.
Luo’er and the others continued planning, preparing to infiltrate the manor in the evening to find Tarute.
Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperative.
In the afternoon, the sky was overcast.
Just before dusk, a heavy rain started pouring.
This wasn’t good news for the sniper team, as it obscured their vision and hampered their sniping reconnaissance.
However, it was rather helpful for Luo’er’s team.
The noise from the heavy rain made their infiltration operation smoother, and it also ensured that Tarute would stay inside a building on manor grounds.
