Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 363 - 344: Disdain
Seth Sutton raised an eyebrow and smiled faintly, speaking softly, "You’ve got quite the connections."
Sienna Thornton wasn’t sure what he meant, so she didn’t respond, just looking at him with annoyance.
He curled one side of his lips into a slight smile, ridiculing, "Let me tell you, officers handling a case never wrongfully accuse any innocent person, nor do they ever let any guilty person go! If you didn’t kill anyone, you’ll be out soon. If you did, I will personally bring you to justice!"
"..." Sienna was speechless for a moment, then smiled and said, "My innocence completely depends on you, Officer."
Hearing the sarcasm in her words, Seth got angry again, suddenly raising his voice sternly, "You think the officer doesn’t know if you’re innocent or not?!"
Knowing he still believed she was the murderer, Sienna, though helpless, didn’t want to reiterate the details of the night of the incident again. He had asked many times, and she had answered in detail despite her impatience.
Due to lack of sleep, continuous questioning, and poor diet causing physical weakness, she found herself without the strength to engage in any serious argument with Seth, even though she was indignant, logical, and still had the mindset of a legal professional.
She had to keep taking deep breaths to make her body feel a bit better and ease her heart.
After struggling to calm her body and emotions, she laughed lightly, "Officer, there has to be a motive to murder. Why do you say I wanted to kill the victim?"
Seth put on a stern face, "We investigated. The victim was once engaged to your boyfriend and was the chosen daughter-in-law candidate of the Forrester Family. Naturally, you murdered her out of jealousy!"
Sienna shifted her gaze to Seth, her face drained of color, making her smile seem bittersweet, "Officer, your investigation wasn’t thorough enough. Didn’t you find out that Simon Forrester and I are close to getting married? Last month, we went to Europe, and his mother spent billions for me. You should’ve also found out that ever since Simon and I got together, the Forrester Family made me the CEO of the ’Forrester Group,’ and even Simon’s mother and grandfather are preparing our wedding. I already have everything the victim didn’t. Why would I be jealous and ruin everything I have by murdering her?"
"Clearly, you were driven by emotions because the victim also liked Simon Forrester, and she was once engaged to him, as his fiancée!"
Upon hearing this, Sienna burst out laughing.
Her voice was naturally soft and pleasing. Coupled with her current physical weakness, her voice lost the sharpness and frustration brought on by emotions, leaving only complete vulnerability.
She continued staring at a spot on the wall, her colorless lips curling slightly, with helplessness, "Officer, in your eyes, does every woman stumble at emotional hurdles?"
Seth glared at her coldly, "Statistics show that ninety percent of female murder cases are due to emotions or marriage!"
"Then I must be in the ten percent," Sienna said, "Not every woman loses control when confronting emotional issues. There are too many things to do in life, too many dreams to achieve... Warm family and friendships, deep national sentiments, vast mountains, and stars..."
She sneered, "At such a level, a woman who merely likes my boyfriend is nothing. That afternoon, the victim wanted to see me at the law firm, but I told my assistant to block her. The reason was I didn’t even want to meet and speak with her. If it weren’t for that night, her loitering by my car, I wouldn’t have even glanced her way, let alone—"
At this, she suddenly turned to gaze at Seth, her pale yet delicate lips curling into an elegant and confident smile, "let alone, kill her?"
Seth squinted at her, as if trying to discern the reasonableness of her words.
He remained silent for quite a while.
Sienna turned her face back, continuing to stare at a point on the wall, lost in thought.
Seth sat for a moment, then stood up to open the door. Before leaving, he suddenly turned back to Sienna, "Has anyone ever said, you look like someone?"
Sienna didn’t answer immediately, pondering for a long time before asking, "Who do you think I look like?"
Seth was about to speak when a rapid knocking sounded from outside the door. He opened it to find a subordinate urgently saying, "Boss, Captain Garrison wants you! It’s very urgent! Quick!"
Captain Garrison was the captain of the West District Criminal Investigation Unit, superior to Deputy Chief Seth.
Seth tugged on the trench coat he hadn’t changed for days and strode towards the captain’s office. His movements were so big they created a gust of wind, causing the hem of his coat to billow. The steady sound of the black police boots encasing his cargo pants echoed down the hallway.
Entering the captain’s office, before the door was even closed, a folder flew horizontally at his forehead, ruffling his unwashed hair.
Captain Garrison stood with arms akimbo behind the desk, glaring and exclaiming, "What were you doing in the suspect’s rest room for the ’western suburbs case’ for so long? And why did you send away the female colleague on watch?"
Seth scratched his head, lounging on the sofa with an idle air, squinting and saying, "Of course, I was in there questioning! She hasn’t slept for over thirty hours; questioning is most effective now!"
Captain Garrison grabbed another stack of files and flung it over, angrily saying, "Knowing that suspect has strong backing, yet you stay alone with her? Is it because she’s pretty, and after over thirty hours without rest, you’ve got bad intentions?! Watch out or your Prosecutor Thorne will get you!"
Seth: "..."
Frustrated, he sat up, grumbling to Captain Garrison, "Get me for what? I’m about to break up with her; what can she do to me?!"
Captain Garrison came over and gave him a hard pat on the shoulder, irritably saying, "Doesn’t matter whether you break up with Prosecutor Thorne or not! You can’t be alone with this female suspect again! Her boyfriend knew the moment you went in! Head office called immediately, telling me to get you out right away! If you keep questioning her alone, you won’t have this job for long, I tell you!"
Seth, thoroughly annoyed, waved his strong arm, getting up.
He ran his hand through his unwashed yet stylish hair, angrily saying, "This is my case, and now I can’t even question her? What’s with her boyfriend interfering with my investigation? The more he stops me, the more I want to question her!"
With that, he stormed out, slamming the door.
However, he didn’t go back to Sienna but returned to his office, tossing his trench coat onto the sofa and flopping into his office chair. With his heavy police boots resting on the desk, he pulled out his phone and opened WeChat.
There were several messages from the evening. Hesitating slightly, he opened the chat.
The chat window showed "Prosecutor Thorne," but next to the name was a do-not-disturb symbol.
He barely glanced at the new messages, left them unanswered, and went back to read previous chats.
Prosecutor Thorne had sent him several heavily filtered selfies, which he opened one by one, increasingly realizing how much the suspect in the "western suburbs case" resembled his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend, Prosecutor Mina Thorne...
