Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 373 - 354: The Boss Lady
The building of SY Architectural Design Firm is quite unique, just like the director’s office on the third floor: behind the desk is a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass, offering a view of the rock garden and flowing water in the courtyard on the first floor; the office ceiling is also made of a large piece of light green heat-insulating glass. It is winter now, with bare branches casting mottled shadows, partially blocking the sunlight, giving an artistic feel to the dark wooden floor of the office with the swaying tree shadows.
Being immersed in such an artistic environment every day, it’s no wonder SY can design many projects that have won international awards.
"What delicious food did you bring me?" Simon Forrester walked behind the desk, playfully pinching Sienna Thornton’s cheek as he took off his suit jacket and loosened his collar with one hand.
He sat down on the guest seat in front of the desk, looking at Sienna Thornton, who was sitting in his chair, supporting herself with her hands on the sides, her feet dangling.
Sienna Thornton looked up at him, then glanced at the securely closed door and teased, "With the curtains drawn, people might think we’re doing something in here."
"The boss’s lady comes to visit, and the boss closes the door. Isn’t that normal?"
Sienna Thornton laughed twice, stood up, circled to Simon Forrester’s side, and, holding his arm, walked toward the coffee table: "Let’s eat first. I have something to tell you."
Two portions of curry beef brisket rice, a salad, and a chilled okra dish were set on the table. Simon Forrester brought over two bottles of mineral water, and the two began their lunch.
"Shouldn’t you be at the firm right now? How come you’re bringing me food?" Simon Forrester twisted open a bottle of mineral water and handed it over.
Sienna Thornton took it, sipped a little, and said cautiously, "I went to the old house this morning."
Simon Forrester was about to scoop up some curry rice but paused, looking over with a slightly serious tone: "What did Grandpa say to you?"
Sienna Thornton didn’t want to cause a rift between the grandfather and grandson over her, so she slightly altered Old Master Forrester’s words from the morning: "Grandpa said he’s happy you finally decided to take over the Forrester Group and hoped I would work hard with you! He also comforted me not to worry about the matter with Nina Sinclair. The old man believes in fate and seems to see things more openly than we do."
Simon Forrester naturally didn’t believe these words, but he didn’t press further and instead said with a smile, "The Forrester family is your family. They are sure to support you! Don’t mind those irrelevant people."
"Okay."
Simon Forrester scooped a few pieces of beef brisket from his lunch box into Sienna Thornton’s: "Eat more." Saying this, he began eating the okra himself.
Perhaps having been in meetings all morning, Simon Forrester was quite hungry and ate with a focused seriousness, saying little.
Sienna Thornton was preoccupied, feeling downhearted and not very hungry.
She stirred the rice in her lunch box, hardly touched the meat, and seeing Simon Forrester almost finished eating, finally couldn’t hold back the words she’d kept to herself for days: "I already know, Dean Thorne is my father."
Simon Forrester’s hand, holding the bottle of mineral water about to drink, froze, looking at her in shock, silent for a long time.
"I showed his photo to my mom, and she recognized him. Now that I think about it, he fits many of the characteristics of my biological father. It’s just that I never dared to imagine myself as his child, so I never considered it."
Simon Forrester was still in shock, not at Sienna Thornton’s discovery of Quentin Thorne’s identity, but at her calm and rational demeanor upon learning that the father she had been searching for was nearby, without the usual emotional turmoil one might expect.
Her lack of confidence also filled Simon Forrester with deep sympathy.
He capped the bottle of mineral water, moved to sit beside her, and held her tightly in his embrace.
The person in his arms was quiet, not crying or fussing, not saying a word, so unlike her usual self.
This made Simon Forrester even more worried. He raised his hand, gently stroking her hair, and asked, "You have to believe he is proud of you, so don’t undervalue yourself. He knows you are amazing."
She didn’t speak, remaining silent, lost in her thoughts. After a while, she gripped Simon Forrester’s shirt tightly and mournfully asked, "If I’m so amazing, why doesn’t he want to acknowledge me?"
Hearing these words, Simon Forrester realized she knew everything.
In the past, she might have been upset by his secrecy, challenged or even threatened to break up, but at this moment, she didn’t express any anger at his concealment.
She had matured, understanding that sometimes a loved one’s secrecy is helplessness.
He held her close, advising, "Since you can understand my reasons for keeping this from you, can you also try to understand his difficulties?"
She shook her head: "No. Because he’s different from you."
With these words, she took a deep breath in his arms, sat up straight, adjusted her Chanel-style outfit and hair, and began packing the table.
Not wanting to hear Simon Forrester defend Quentin Thorne any longer, she casually found an excuse: "I have an appointment with Nolan Kramer to discuss something, so I’ll go first."
Simon Forrester helped her pack: "What’s the discussion about?"
"Nolan wants to terminate the contract with the law firm. I’m going to see if there’s any chance to turn it around."
"Shall I go with you?"
Once the food boxes were packed, Sienna Thornton stood up, smiled at him, and said, "No need, it’ll be harder to talk with you there. Okay, let’s discuss it when we’re home tonight."
Simon Forrester stood, putting on his suit jacket and coat, took the food boxes from her, and walked with her downstairs to the parking lot.
On the second floor, designers silently watched through the large floor-to-ceiling office windows as their boss and his lady stood in front of a fiery red Maserati coupe. He tenderly held her face, kissed the corner of her lips, opened the car door for her, and sent her off in the car, standing there for a long time after the charming coupe drove out of the firm’s courtyard.
.
Originally, Sienna Thornton planned to discuss with Simon Forrester before negotiating with Nolan Kramer, but the moment she saw Simon, she realized she couldn’t fully disclose Old Master Forrester’s words from the morning.
Having never experienced the unity of family in this life, she didn’t want Simon Forrester to form a rift with Old Master Forrester and Zane Forrester because of her and the firm’s matters.
Being a child herself, she understood that Simon Forrester also felt troubled when fighting with the family elders over her issues.
She left SY and returned to the firm to grab a copy of the contract with the Forrester Group, then drove directly to meet Nolan Kramer.
Nolan Kramer was in his office having tea with Mr. Chase from the production technology department. Surprised to see her, perhaps not expecting she’d have the nerve to negotiate at such a critical time.
Sienna Thornton noticed Nolan’s dismissive attitude towards her, and the anger towards Quentin Thorne immediately transferred and burned even more fiercely.
She bit her lip, a harmless smile curving one corner, and entered the office with her back straight, seating herself on the sofa independently.
