Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 138: Accusation
President Ford has been quite focused on their investment department today, even personally overseeing the overtime.
Skyler Miller raised his hand to greet, but saw Julian Ford stride directly towards the corner window seat.
Scarlett Shaw was nearing the end of her task and was quietly chatting with Lily.
Lily: "At this rate, you’ll probably miss the subway tonight. Scarlett, how are you going home later?"
Scarlett Shaw replied while looking at the data: "I’ll take a taxi."
Lily: "Isn’t your boyfriend coming to pick you up so late?"
Scarlett Shaw’s fingers paused on the keyboard.
Are she and Julian Ford still considered boyfriend and girlfriend?
"He won’t."
"Why not?"
Reaching her ears was a cold, clear male voice.
Scarlett Shaw suddenly froze, instinctively looked up, meeting Julian Ford’s indifferent dark eyes.
Her fingers lightly trembled on the keyboard, quickly withdrawing her gaze, and she stood up with Lily, distancing herself respectfully: "President Ford."
Julian Ford glanced down at her, his gaze drifting to the computer screen, and gave a few concise suggestions. His voice was neither too loud nor too quiet, which Skyler Miller heard from behind and immediately understood the central ideas of the boss, passing them down, which significantly increased overtime efficiency.
Originally, two hours of work were left, but it was smoothly resolved within half an hour.
During this half hour, the person feeling most on edge was Lily.
Oh my god.
Can someone tell her why President Ford needed to personally sit beside and stare at her colleague while doing overtime?!
Although she herself wasn’t the one being directly observed, Lily, who had always been afraid of teachers and grew up scared of bosses, felt incredibly uncomfortable!
This was no different than having an exam with the invigilating teacher sitting right beside her!
Being watched continuously not by the examining teacher, but by Julian Ford, Scarlett Shaw finished the last report, shut down the computer, turned back to see him, paused, then pretended not to see as she picked up her bag and left.
Just as she stepped out, her hand was caught.
Scarlett Shaw frowned slightly, wanting to shake off the grip.
"Trying to push me away again?"
Long, well-defined fingers gently interlocked with hers; his tone was calm, yet his hold on her was firmer.
Scarlett Shaw’s movement froze, pressing her lips tightly, remaining silent.
Most colleagues from the investment department had mostly left, but Lily and Skyler Miller were still there, the former seated at her workspace, the latter standing in the hallway, both staring in disbelief as Julian Ford held the silent Scarlett Shaw’s hand tightly, without any trace of awkwardness, heading towards the elevator lobby.
Until their figures vanished.
Lily stiffly withdrew her gaze, looking at Skyler Miller incredulously: "Have I been overtime hallucinating?"
Skyler Miller nodded in agreement: "I feel the same."
Lily: "But didn’t you say before that Scarlett’s boyfriend was Assistant Carson?"
Skyler Miller: "If President Ford steals from the back, Assistant Carson really has no chance."
Lily: "Then, is there a possibility that Scarlett’s boyfriend was President Ford all along?"
Skyler Miller: "..."
In the investment department office, Skyler Miller and Lily exchanged looks, unable to calm their shock for a long time.
Outside the office, Scarlett Shaw was tightly held by Julian Ford and walked from the elevator to the basement parking lot, finally stopping in front of the black Bentley.
The air was quiet.
Neither of them looked at each other, only their hands remained tightly together.
After a long time, a dark current, unseen before, surged beneath Julian Ford’s calm eyes like a deep pool; he lowered his eyes, intending to explain the encounter with Ethan Ford earlier today, but reflected in his dark pupils was Scarlett Shaw, silently crying.
Tears pooled in her reddened eyes, forming drops and rolling down like pearls, one after the other.
Clearly, she had been crying for quite some time.
It wasn’t the first time Julian Ford saw Scarlett Shaw cry.
But it was the first time that pain seemed to rip open his left chest, more intense than the night they argued when he heard her misinterpret his feelings.
At this moment, Julian Ford did not fully comprehend what the appearance of this emotion meant, but many days later, when he reviewed "Midsummer Night’s Dream" alone again, he finally understood that long before, his care for Scarlett had already surpassed something in himself.
But at that time, Scarlett was no longer by his side.
Before he could speak, Scarlett began crying more fiercely.
"Julian Ford, why are you always like this?"
"Making me sad, saying all those hurtful words, yet approaching me again and again, making my heart soften, and making me like you more and more."
"Clearly you were the one... you were the one who went to watch the play with another girl alone. You have no idea what feelings I held watching you from the back. Knowing you have difficulties doesn’t matter; if I’m your girlfriend, don’t I at least have the right to be angry because I care?"
Tears came rushing in, Scarlett Shaw almost couldn’t speak for crying.
Julian Ford reached out, wanting to hold her, but was pushed away, and she stepped back two steps, further away from him.
"I know you’ll say again that it would never work out between us. I’ll tell you, I want to stay rational even more than you, but if I can’t be indulgently in love with my boyfriend, then what’s the point of being together?"
"And... even if that night, I said some words that hurt you, haven’t your words ever considered my feelings? Not considering is one thing, but I’ve tried to comfort myself and come to you, yet what happened? You’ve already been considering breaking up, why not give me a straightforward answer and stop doing these things that make my heart soften!"
The mention of breakup changed Julian Ford’s expression; he pulled her close and wiped her tears, frowning and saying solemnly: 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"I never thought about breaking up."
But Scarlett Shaw’s tears wouldn’t stop; she felt deeply wronged.
Julian Ford had no idea how much she liked him, no matter how angry or upset she was, as long as he appeared in front of her, she would be so happy.
He never held the same feelings when interacting with her.
"Why didn’t you ever say, you obviously..."
The accusing words were interrupted as Scarlett Shaw caught sight of another tall and straight figure approaching them like lightning.
Full of menace.
Ryan Ford swung a heavy punch as Julian Ford swiftly pulled Scarlett Shaw behind him, taking the solid hit.
Naturally, Ryan Ford intended the punch for Julian Ford.
He heard from Chloe Grant that Scarlett Shaw was working late tonight; just arrived and saw that scene—
The girl he liked, crying and shedding incessant heartbreaking tears in front of his most respected brother.
Though he didn’t know if Julian Ford understood her every word of heart-wrenching reproach, he knew, having known Scarlett for many years; he understood.
He understood that beneath every word of reproach, she was saying how much she liked Julian Ford.
