Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 148: Cool Mint
Aaron Carson: Come out for a moment.
Scarlett Shaw: ?
Aaron Carson: I’m just following orders.
Scarlett Shaw: Sure.
Aaron Carson didn’t expect this task to be so simple, and when he saw Scarlett standing in front of him in less than two minutes, he was a bit stunned, and said, "Why did you come so quickly?"
Scarlett Shaw: "From your tone, it sounds like you didn’t really want me to show up."
Aaron Carson: "Didn’t you block President Ford out of anger? I thought your pride would at least last until dawn tomorrow."
Scarlett Shaw: "I came promptly. When you report to Julian Ford, couldn’t you have made up some story saying I’m hard to please?"
Aaron Carson: "..."
Scarlett Shaw patted him on the shoulder, "Although there’s no telling how long Julian and I will continue to talk, for now, I’m kind of your boss’s wife, so just be obedient and don’t provoke me."
Aaron Carson was exasperated yet amused, "How is it that you suddenly resemble a malicious supporting character who won’t let others forget her triumphs?"
Scarlett Shaw gave him a surprised glance, "Rhonda, even though I know you... you can’t consider yourself the main character."
Aaron Carson: "..."
Having not bantered for a long time, he was no longer just slightly at a disadvantage; Scarlett had practically rubbed him into the ground!
Aaron Carson felt he needed to sign up for a training class.
Despite his irritation, Aaron Carson had to dutifully take Scarlett to meet Julian Ford. It wasn’t until Scarlett had walked some distance with him that she realized there was a villa on top of the mountain. In the night, the villa lights were bright, and its location offered an even better view than where they’d camped.
The villa had its own small yard, and Julian was standing at the door in all black. As his eyes met Scarlett’s, he slightly opened his arms toward her.
Sensing the moment, Aaron Carson immediately turned back to the campsite.
Scarlett paused where she was for a few seconds, pretending to posture a bit.
Julian saw through her little act and took the initiative to step forward and embrace her.
"Why did you bring me here?"
As Julian led her inside the villa, Scarlett asked.
Even though spring had arrived, the temperature in the mountains was low. Julian handed her a cup of hot water, saying: 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"I have something to say to you. There are too many people at the camp, not convenient. Besides, sleeping here will make you more comfortable."
At the word "sleep," Scarlett inexplicably recalled what Skyler Miller had mentioned during the day, making her ears heat up as she quickly took a sip of hot water and said, "I never said I was staying here overnight. Once you’re done talking, I’m leaving."
"Scarlett."
He called her name, his voice clear, and as he wrapped his arms around her waist, he sat on the sofa and placed her on his lap.
"That night, I’m really sorry for the things I said to you. My words slipped because I became aware of something beyond my control."
His hand gently grasped the back of her neck, and she slightly lowered her head, drawn into his deep dark eyes.
Julian’s expression was so earnest that Scarlett couldn’t help but curiously and expectantly ask, "What is it?"
The beautiful curve of his lips tightened slightly, and if it were anyone else, Scarlett could almost be sure it was an indicator of nervousness.
But this was Julian Ford.
Scarlett found it hard to believe that nervousness could appear on Julian Ford’s face.
Julian looked at her, "Actually that night, no matter what I said, you would have pushed me away, wouldn’t you?"
Scarlett paused slightly, her hand on his shoulder gripping tighter, "Mm."
As she spoke, she felt indignant and immediately added, "Even so, that wasn’t a reason for you to say those things."
"I never intended to use your attitude as an excuse to shirk my own mistakes."
The hand on the back of her neck exerted a bit more strength, bringing her closer until their breaths mingled as one.
Julian’s eyes remained clear and calm, yet Scarlett saw the turbulent undercurrents within.
Then she heard him say, "When you smiled at me coldly, both my reason and emotions told me that if one day, you truly decided to leave me, I wouldn’t even know how to make you stay."
In every other aspect, Julian Ford always had the upper hand, but when dealing with matters of the heart, he didn’t have any sophisticated strategies, nor did he know how to be the first to back down in a dispute.
But that night, confronted with Scarlett’s aloofness, he suddenly realized clearly that in this relationship, if she ever stopped and refused to advance, he would be left standing there helpless.
He was never the one in control.
Scarlett, who always forged ahead fearlessly, had always held the initiative in their relationship.
Having never truly experienced love, people often erect defenses as soon as pain arrives, becoming instinctively protective and inadvertently wounding the ones closest to them.
That night, Julian was precisely like that.
But at this moment, facing Scarlett, he not only showed softness in his eyes but also allowed her to see his vulnerability.
Julian Ford: "Actually, after that night, I thought about using the same methods as before to get you to listen. But we are not in the same relationship we were then, and I don’t want to go back to that."
"It’s not that I don’t want my family to know because I don’t like you enough, but because to me, someone as wonderful as you doesn’t need their approval. Their approval isn’t important."
"When it comes to feelings, I’m a novice. So that night, my first instinct was to handle it like any other problem, but when you told me to leave, I realized those ways wouldn’t work, and in many such moments before, you were the one who compromised."
Julian’s voice was slow and calm.
As always, cool and minty like cold peppermint.
Yet in this minty aura seemed to be a fatal charm, leading Scarlett willingly into surrender.
She lowered her head and kissed his beautiful lips with fervor and honesty, her mind filled with three words:
It’s over.
The Julian Ford who was stubbornly disagreeable and always made her angry was enough to provoke uncontrollable emotions in her, but now this man was openly saying he liked her, trusting her with his truthfulness, leaving her wondering how to handle it.
If she truly lost him in the future, what would she do?
The intense emotions swelling within her chest were suddenly replaced by a sharp ache, and Scarlett suddenly remembered Yana Yarrow’s words: If you ever loved courageously, even if the outcome wasn’t ideal, you wouldn’t regret it.
She had only cared about not regretting it herself but had never thought about what she’d do if she couldn’t bear losing him when that day came.
The villa’s first-floor living room featured a large, transparent floor-to-ceiling window.
The night outside was thick, with a clear moon and gentle breezes.
As warm liquid rolled down her neck, Julian withdrew from the kiss, fingers brushing across Scarlett’s eye corner, his stoic face showing a helpless smile:
"I scold you and you cry, and now I tell the truth, you also cry. You say I’m hard to please, but you’re not any different."
Indeed, Julian’s frank tenderness was time-limited.
Not even five minutes had passed before he began reverting to his true self.
Despite this, Scarlett couldn’t manage a single word of rebuttal.
Even her heart was trembling.
Just hearing his voice made her tears flow even more fiercely than on the day she confronted him in the garage.
Hot tears splashed onto the back of his hand.
Originally straddling Julian’s legs, Scarlett was gently clasped at the waist, her slender neck lightly held, as Julian flipped her and pinned her beneath him.
He bit her lip lightly, then kissed her deeply.
