Chapter 67: Starfall Mountain Range, Alfred’s first Gene Potential Burst

Bladevow Region.

John’s destination—Starfall Mountain Range—was pretty sizable, but not too vast, covering roughly 130 kilometers of radius, which would be around 53,000-kilometer square.

From the borders of this mountain range to the nearest human settlement, it was 50 - 70 kilometers in distance on three sides.

Each of those settlements was made up of three kingdoms in East, South, and West. In the North was a river-streaked forest and the Kingdom ahead of it didn’t come to get the benefits of the Starfall Mountain Range as they had another zone.

But Starfall Mountain Range was one of the areas rich with high-ranking resources up to King-rank, so the Haizek Kingdom in the East, and the other two Kingdoms would explore the peripheries regularly without going too deep unless they had local sects or ruling sects’ branches’ King-rank Tamers came with them.

Ouroboros Hall had no branches, but the other four sects had branches near all big wilderness areas in every region, including this Starfall Mountain range.

And with the recent kidnapping of Haizek Kingdom’s young prince and princess this morning, the Starfall Mountain Rage was a bit lively.

Unaware of that, Azelis and John arrived there in just around an hour, with the clock just hitting 3 p.m.

"There it is," Azelis said as she commanded her dragon to slow down.

John looked below as the dragon slightly descended, tearing through the clouds as the Starfall Mountain range came into view.

Jagged and black-silver in its craggy silhouette, its peaks pierced the sky like obsidian spires, some tipped with glowing crystals that faintly pulsed even in daylight—remnants of old meteor impacts that gave the range its name.

Veins of luminous ore ran through certain cliffs, and strange mists coiled between the ridges, never fully dispersing, giving the entire range an eerie, half-dreamlike appearance.

Deep valleys and shadowed passes cut through its body, hiding ravines, beast dens, and ruins half-swallowed by nature. Faint roars and screeches occasionally echoed from unseen depths at the central area of the range—the kind that made lesser tamers think twice before entering.

"It looks awesome," John said, blinking once as his eyes sparkled. "Looks like a perfect training area."

"Don’t go to the central areas of the range or at the top heights of the mountain. King-rank Monsters will eat you easily."

"Got it." John grinned. "Well, I can just jump from here now."

"Yeah, good luck and be mindful of the map I gave you. It has the area names and also places where you shouldn’t go. Don’t forget to use a talisman to escape when the time comes."

"Understood."

"Then go," Azelis said with a smile and nodded at him. "All the best and good luck."

"See you later," John gestured with a casual short salute-flick of his hand at Azelis with a grin and just fell backward.

"Woohooo!"

"Never thought I would someday land from 10,000 meters of height without a parachute."

John shouted as the thrill of falling and the wind hitting felt good.

In the next moment, a light shot out of his body and turned into a majestic Thunderblitz Tempest Eagle.

Pymon swooped down fast and spread his wings as John positioned himself from upside-down to standing and landed on Pymon’s back smoothly.

"It is time for some adventure."

...

John landed at the northern periphery mountain, past the great river divide that separated the Starfall Mountain range from the wilderness in the north.

The part of the mountain where he landed was cold with more ice and wind spirit power in the atmosphere.

Through the woodlands around him, John already spotted a monster, sleeping soundly with a thick blue crystallized armor coated with purple curvy patterns.

From its sound sleeping, the surrounding silence, and its aura, it was clear that this monster was the ruler of this particular territory.

[Name]: Nelfim Ice-Scaled Bear

’That’s one fat bastard that can pound me to death,’ John swallowed. He had already put Pymon inside and summoned Alfred.

’Buddy, are you smelling or sensing any Silver-rank Monsters?’

Alfred sniffed and nodded, relaying to John.

’Nice.’

Alfred was smelling a bleeding Monster a bit over a kilometer away in the south.

John and Alfred moved as Alfred led the way.

It wasn’t long before they encountered a pack of four Silver-rank Rage Fan Wolves tearing through a Silver-rank Ice Crystal turtle’s shell and eating it.

The turtle was already dead.

Upon John’s and Alfred’s arrival, the four wolves, all being Silver-rank Prime stage, looked at them, issuing low growls.

John grinned. ’Two vs four. We complete this challenge and then get strong. What do you say?’

"Awoo!" Alfred howled in response before growling back at the four wolves.

The four wolves began moving, intending to circle around them. The trees were thin around here, giving plenty of space to move around.

There wasn’t much ice left on the ground, but some of the surface was frozen crystal, making it slippery.

After a brief silence, Alfred howled, using Vorpal Howl to weaken the wolves by 20% while increasing his own stats by 20%.

John pulled the trigger twice.

Both bullets struck the thick skull of a Rage Fan wolf before it fell on the ground whimpering in pain, as its broken skull bled.

The other three wolves instantly acted.

Two wolves had their claws shining and their speed increasing as they made a pounce while the third one opened its mouth, releasing a vertical tornado towards them with wind slashes inside.

John and Alfred both used Umbral Drift.

John went up towards a tree’s branch before shooting bullets at the two wolves who were ready to chase them, blinding one wolf’s eye while missing the other one.

’Tsk, I missed.’

On the other hand, Alfred appeared behind the wolf that used the tornado and manifested in the monster form before his tail became giant and spiky, burning with Frostfire and additional Blood and Darkness power.

Shattering Tail Smash was even stronger than Shader Blaze Beam.

It struck right on the wolf’s back and pasted it on the ground, before initiating its combo move—Doom Blast Impact, as a circular explosion consisting of Frostfire, Blood, and Darkness energy blasted.

*Boom!*

Dead.

The other two wolves shot towards Alfred while John looked at the first wolf who had stood up despite its bleeding skull, about to use a skill with its open mouth.

’Nope.’ John’s eyes flickered and he put a 100-Soul energy bullet right into its open mouth.

*Boom!*

Turning his head to the other place where Alfred was entangled with the other two wolves, John didn’t interfere.

One of the wolves created after-images, confusing Alfred, while another swiped its claws, releasing a six-clawed projectile.

Alfred jumped to dodge and unleashed Shader Blaze Beam in mid-air, blasting the wolf that swiped its claw.

The other one had six mirages, all of them moving around Alfred as he landed on the ground.

Alfred’s eyes moved, observing, smelling, and sensing carefully.

Suddenly, all six of the wolves pounced on him. Only one of them was real, the other five were illusions.

And Alfred pinpointed it as he twirled and opened his mouth as giant fangs manifested, two above and two below, with the pouncing wolf in the middle about to get snapped.

Obsidian Tundral Fangs!

*Snap!*

Blood splattered, and body pieces fell while the other five wolf mirages vanished upon the original wolf’s death.

"Good job, buddy."

John landed as his palm released four threads, one for each wolf as he extracted their Soul Crystals as well as autometic Geno Points during the process.

John absorbed the Soul Crystals since he had made Alfred max out his Soul Crystal during the island expedition.

"This area is nice and spacious. Let’s camp here and make it our base for now," John said as he looked around before waving his hand, summoning Pymon, Rexion, Starry, and three kids—Roby, Toby, Coby, Crocky, Sony, Merc, and Becky.

"Listen up, folks. We are in a wilderness rich with monsters and resources. Scout around, cut the trees, and bring me logs! Don’t engage with monsters and just report Pymon about it."

"Also, eat these crystals first, Pymon."

Pymon’s eyes shone as he opened the beak and gulped all four crystals, gaining the first bit of boost in the Silver-rank.

"Rexion, you help me build the camp with your flexible Bloodscript energy. For now, just make a lot of threads for me.

"Peee!"

And so, John directed the ground monsters like Rexion, Crocky, Sony, and Merc to cut trees while Alfred shaped the woods into perfect logs and bars as he was already familiar with it.

Starry and Pymon’s family flew around scouting.

A few Silver-rank Monsters were seen coming towards them, so Pymon informed John, who was ready with the whole gang, and defeated them.

"These hogs are quite plump, eh? Alright, they are going to be our dinner."

It only took an hour for the superb camp with crystal fences, structures woven with Wood, Metal, and Bloodscript string with beautiful wooden and flower aesthetics from Becky to be formed.

One big house, empty ground for a bonfire and resting, a well to store water, and fences.

It was 4 p.m., but due to the coldness in this area, John lit up the campfire.

The Monsters explored the periphery upon John’s command, finding resources if possible.

Meanwhile, John took out a few resources.

A fruit with both Blood and Metal attributes.

A smoldering vine with a Fire attribute.

A lotus of Ice attribute.

"Alfred, are you ready?"

Alfred nodded, his eyes determined.

John fed the resources to Alfred and infused Geno Points of Rage Fan Wolves before triggering a Gene Potential burst.

Instantly, Alfred’s Gene Potential went from 100 to 0 while Alfred’s body began to glow.

Alfred stayed on the ground, glowing and trembling with pain as the four attributes of energies whirled around and inside him.

John pointed his palm forward, his gaze determined. "You ain’t suffering alone, buddy."

Right after touching Alfred, John received a jolt with multiple types of pain, his vision turning blurry, and his senses chaotic.

’Shit, I can’t lose conciousness! Stay fucking strong, bastard!’ John cursed himself as he almost blanked out.

Alfred, feeling John’s determination, grew even more resolved and absorbed the energies, reigning them in and digesting them.

Alfred’s genes bloomed and empowered. New spiritual DNA formed as the Gene Potential was used and triggered with the resources, birthing something new in him.

John felt the aura and energies subsiding as his pain reduced. A minute later, everything calmed down.

He weakly stood up, still reeling with the effects of those attributes, but endurable.

"Woof!" Alfred energetically stood up and licked John’s face while squinting with happiness.

"Yeah, I can feel it, buddy," John said with a grin as he could see Alfred had powered up.

He quickly inspected.

"It looks like you removed Obsidian Tundral Fangs for this Tundral Hemoxar Claws, eh? It looks like the skill came thanks to Blood Mastery reaching level 2."

"Awu!"

"It’s good, eh? Nice. We’ll check it out later. For now, I am interested in your first talent," John said with a grin and inspected the talent.

[Double Team]: When Alfred’s vitality drops below 50%, two clones are manifested from Alfred’s body, which can be controlled by Alfred. Their stats are the same as Alfred’s and will disappear once they run out of soul energy or if their mirage core is shattered.

John’s eyes couldn’t help but sparkle. "This is awesome, man!"

"Woof!"
