Overpowered Resident Doctor-Chapter 108: Who Complained?
Anonymous complaints, while not seriously affecting Yan Feifan’s work, were certainly unsettling.
Especially since Yan Feifan believed he had given his all to every single patient, never daring to slack off.
But among thousands of patients, some were just truly exasperating.
’Perhaps it’s individuals like these who extinguish the initial passion of so many doctors?’
Yan Feifan tried to console himself. ’Life is full of disappointments, but work and life must go on.’
Shortly before noon, Yan Feifan received a thick patient file from Professor Qin Ying.
"Guo Fan, a national badminton player, thirty-one years old. Due to injuries, his performance in competitions over the last year or two hasn’t been ideal."
Qin Ying explained, "I’ve looked it over. His injuries are primarily cumulative muscle and nerve damage."
"Based on the meticulous understanding of the body’s musculature you demonstrated in Yo Jiayong’s surgery, taking on this case will be no problem for you."
Yan Feifan briefly flipped through the centimeter-thick file and said, "Teacher, I’ll study these records carefully first."
Qin Ying nodded and added meaningfully, "Feifan, when your skills and reputation reach a certain level, many difficult problems and troubles will be readily resolved, or even disappear on their own."
"When you become indispensable, others will step up to solve all sorts of problems for you."
"Feifan, your skill is the foundation of your career. Never forget that."
Yan Feifan grunted in agreement. "Teacher, I’ve always kept that firmly in mind."
"My sister has also constantly warned me that we have no power, no influence, and no resources. We can only rely on our own abilities to forge a new path for ourselves."
Qin Ying nodded in satisfaction.
She then looked at Yu Suye, her expression turning stern. "The surgical plan you designed for the right-hand deformity is barely passable. It shows no breakthrough in thinking or technique."
"Do it again!"
Yu Suye obediently replied, "Yes, Teacher..."
A little after two in the afternoon, Yan Feifan, who was busy in the emergency department, was about to take a sip of water when he received an unexpected call from Mr. Ge, his neighbor from Happiness Garden.
’Did that chatterbox Xiaoyu spread the word again?’
Yan Feifan muttered to himself as he answered the call.
"Mr. Ge..."
Before he could finish, Mr. Ge cut him off anxiously, "Xiaoyan, I remember you once taught us about the twenty-four-hour and twelve-hour warning signs for a heart attack or something?"
Yan Feifan had indeed educated the residents of Happiness Garden on the prevention, symptoms, and first-aid measures for common illnesses and some acute conditions.
This was a community service event co-hosted by the Happiness Garden community association and Yan Feifan.
They would hold one or two such events every year.
After the Spring Festival this year, once his health had recovered a bit, Yan Feifan gave another one of these talks.
Noticing that many middle-aged people in their forties and fifties had attended that day, he had specifically spent more time talking about issues related to heart attacks and tumors.
"Yes, I did, Mr. Ge. Why do you ask all of a sudden?"
Mr. Ge’s rushed voice came through the phone again. "Xiaoyan, it’s like this. I had lunch with a few friends, and then we came to a foot massage parlor to relax."
"We happened to start talking about health, and one of my friends mentioned that he suddenly couldn’t breathe in the middle of the night and was jolted awake."
"I seem to remember you said that was a precursor to a heart attack?"
Just as Yan Feifan was about to speak, Mr. Ge’s voice sounded again.
"Xiaoyan, I’m putting you on speaker now. Could you explain it to my friends again?"
Hearing a few greetings like "Hello, Mr. Yan," and "Hello, Xiaoyan," from the phone, Yan Feifan felt a bit helpless. He had no choice but to clear his throat and begin his public health lesson once more.
"Although a heart attack often presents as an acute emergency, certain signals in daily life beforehand can serve as a warning!"
Yan Feifan paused for a moment before continuing, "Transient pain is a twenty-four-hour warning sign."
"Transient pain refers to pain caused by the activation of nociceptors in the absence of any obvious local tissue damage."
"The most common types are pain in the chest and precordial regions. In addition, there can be stomach pain, exercise-induced pain, and pain in the jaw, left shoulder, back, or even the left thigh."
"This type of pain often hurts for a moment, then goes away with rest, so it’s particularly easy to ignore."
"Once these symptoms appear, a heart attack could occur within twenty-four hours. If you experience this kind of unexplained pain, you must be vigilant. It’s best to go to the hospital for an examination and treatment."
Yan Feifan stepped outside the treatment room, poured a cup of water, took a few sips, and continued his explanation. "Waking up breathless in the middle of the night is a twelve-hour warning sign."
"If you suddenly experience chest tightness and can’t breathe in the middle of the night, this could be a dangerous signal of an impending heart attack."
"Before a heart attack occurs, the blood supply to the heart muscle is severely insufficient, meaning the heart muscle lacks the strength to pump blood to the body."
"This affects the transport of oxygen. Since nighttime is already a period of low blood supply, it can lead to severe oxygen deprivation in the body, causing breathlessness!"
"If this symptom appears, a heart attack is very likely to occur within twelve hours."
At that moment, Yan Feifan saw Mrs. Xv leading Luo Wei, who was wearing a mask and sunglasses, along with her parents. They were carrying flowers, a fruit basket, and a silk banner as they walked over.
Yan Feifan waved to them and quickened his pace on the phone.
"Breaking out in a sudden sweat is a sign of an ongoing attack."
"You could just be sitting or standing, doing nothing, and you start sweating profusely. And this isn’t localized sweating; it’s all over your body."
"Suddenly starting to sweat intensely all over is a common symptom of a heart attack. The moment the blood vessel gets blocked, a person breaks into a cold sweat and might collapse instantly."
As he said this, Yan Feifan added into the phone, "Mr. Ge, a patient has arrived."
"If there’s anything else, let’s talk later..." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Yan Feifan ended the call and ushered Mrs. Xv, Luo Wei, and her parents into the treatment room.
Because the anonymous complaint was still on his mind, Yan Feifan’s attitude toward them was much cooler.
Luo Wei took off her mask and sunglasses and gave Yan Feifan a deep bow. "Mr. Yan, thank you so much!"
The moment she removed her mask and sunglasses, Yan Feifan could see her face clearly.
Although the surgical scars were still discernible on her makeup-free face, the lines of her features were now exceptionally soft.
Her almond-shaped eyes, and the symmetrically, slightly upturned corners of her mouth, gave her an added touch of grace and warmth. It completely transformed her appearance and demeanor, making her look like a gentle and lovely girl from a good family.
Yan Feifan felt a swell of pride at this change in her.
Luo Wei straightened up, her face beaming with excitement. "I’ve been looking in the mirror every day for the past few days. I just can’t believe it."
"I’ve already taken leave from work, and whenever I have to go out, I’m fully armed with a mask and sunglasses."
"I’m going to give everyone who knows me a huge surprise, haha..."
Seeing Luo Wei so uncontrollably excited, Yan Feifan suddenly began to doubt his own judgment.
If she had done something to feel guilty about, it was impossible for there not to be a trace of guilt, awkwardness, or some other strange expression on her face.
Yan Feifan refused to believe that Luo Wei was already so sly and cunning that she could hide all such expressions from him.
He then looked at Luo Wei’s parents.
He saw that they both wore expressions of gratitude, and their gazes didn’t waver in the slightest.
’They’re not the ones who filed the anonymous complaint,’ Yan Feifan concluded in an instant.
Next, he gave Luo Wei a simple check-up and accepted the flowers, fruit basket, and the silk banner they presented, which was inscribed with the words: "A master’s hand wields Ma Liang’s brush; a kind heart forges the beauty of Xishi."
After seeing Luo Wei and her family off, Yan Feifan had a new question.
’Who filed the anonymous complaint?’
’Was it that Zhao Xiaoting, the one who wouldn’t stop wailing?’
’Luo Wei came for her one-week post-op check-up. Given how long it’s been, that Zhao Xiaoting probably won’t be coming back to the hospital for a check-up anymore...’
Around five in the evening, Yan Feifan received a call from the Dacheng Street Police Station, the precinct for the Zuimo Court area.
The caller informed him that a face-to-face negotiation with the Sun Family was scheduled for three o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Dacheng Police Station.
