Overpowered Resident Doctor-Chapter 127: Asking for a Reward
Yan Feifan had no idea how much time had passed. In a daze, he faintly heard someone crying.
He tried to focus and listen.
It was a girl’s cry, a soft, choked sob. It sounded so familiar.
’That’s... my sister’s crying!’
Yan Feifan jolted in alarm, his eyes flying open. Following the sound, he saw his sister sitting by the bed, her face buried in her hands as she wept.
"Sis, don’t cry. I just inhaled some ether and passed out, that’s all. I’m totally fine..."
As he spoke, Yan Feifan reached out, intending to pat his sister’s head.
His hand had just reached mid-air when, with a metallic CLACK, a pair of shiny handcuffs snapped onto his wrist.
The painful impact on his wrist jolted Yan Feifan fully awake.
He realized that besides his sister, Mr. Liu, Mrs. Qin, Mr. Wang, Mr. Miao, and a police officer with a grim expression were also standing by the bed.
"Yan Feifan, you are under arrest on suspicion of negligent homicide."
Those cold words, along with the shiny handcuffs on his wrist, told the now fully conscious Yan Feifan that this was not a dream.
’How is this possible?’
Yan Feifan shot up in bed, his chest heaving violently. His face was covered in a cold sweat from the shock.
"Negligent homicide? Who died?"
"Yv Yang!"
Mr. Miao sighed. "Last night, Yv Yang suffered a heart attack. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and he died."
"Even though he was a murderer, his right to life is still protected."
"Your actions caused him severe shock, which induced cardiac arrest."
"We tried to save him for over four hours."
"But... *sigh*... it was beyond our help."
At that moment, a chill shot down from the top of Yan Feifan’s head and swept through his entire body, leaving him ice-cold.
He looked at Qin Ying, his voice trembling as he asked, "Mrs. Qin, is it true?"
Qin Ying nodded gently, also letting out a long sigh. With a look of regret, she said, "It’s true."
"Feifan, how could you..."
"*Sigh*, it’s too late to say anything now."
"Feifan, we’ll plead for leniency from the court. You were acting in the public’s interest."
"But you definitely won’t be able to avoid prison time."
Hearing Mrs. Qin’s confirmation, Yan Feifan lost all hope and collapsed limply onto the bed.
’It’s over. It’s over. This time, it’s really over. I’ve finally paid the price for my recklessness.’
’Why did that Yv Yang have to be so easily scared?’
"Sis, I..."
Yan Feifan’s voice unconsciously took on a tearful tone. "Sis, please don’t cry. You’re making me want to cry too."
"Sis, I... I... *sob sob*..."
As he spoke, he really did start to cry softly.
His medical skills had just taken a great leap forward, and a wonderful life was about to unfold for him. Now, because of one accident, it was all coming to an abrupt end.
It was impossible to describe the frustration, regret, and fear of a future in prison that filled Yan Feifan’s heart...
The moment he started crying, Yan Ziruo panicked.
She hurriedly wrapped her arms around Yan Feifan and comforted him, "Feifan, don’t be scared, don’t be scared! We were just trying to scare you."
"That man didn’t die. He really didn’t die."
Yan Ziruo then turned to the police officer and yelled, a note of dissatisfaction in her voice, "Aren’t you going to take off the handcuffs?"
The police officer chuckled, unlocked the handcuffs on Yan Feifan’s wrist with a key, gave a nod to Mr. Liu and Mr. Miao, and strode out of the room.
At this point, Yan Feifan had regained some of his energy.
He sat up in bed again and asked urgently, "You guys were really just trying to scare me?"
Mr. Miao smiled faintly. "Of course we were trying to scare you. That Yv Yang didn’t die."
"He saw that the situation was hopeless and confessed everything. The officer who was just here came to escort him back."
"Hey, kiddo, having your wonderful life plunge into hell in an instant—how was that for a thrill?"
"Thrill my ass!"
Yan Feifan roared furiously, "Don’t you know you can scare someone to death like that?"
"Mr. Liu, Mr. Miao, Mrs. Qin, Mr. Wang, your combined ages are over two hundred! You’re all respected figures, so how can you play such a childish game?"
"Ganging up to trick me?"
"You almost scared me to death just now!"
Seeing Yan Feifan’s flustered and exasperated state, Liu Jin, Mr. Miao, Wang Chuan, and Qin Ying all burst out laughing.
However, after a brief moment of laughter, Liu Jin’s expression turned stern. He reached out, poked Yan Feifan’s nose, and said in an authoritative tone, "Yan Feifan, aren’t you a little too bold?"
"How dare you do something so out of line?"
"Do you think we were just scaring you for fun?"
"Use that genius brain of yours for a second and think about it. Isn’t that outcome entirely possible?"
Faced with Liu Jin’s authoritative display, the previously defiant Yan Feifan immediately deflated.
He muttered, "I only took an unconventional approach because the normal methods weren’t working."
"An unconventional approach?"
Liu Jin said angrily, "I think you’re getting arrogant and letting your recklessness get the better of you."
"As a doctor, I see no caution in you, only recklessness and audacity."
"Yan Feifan, do you realize this kind of behavior could get a patient killed and ruin your own life?"
Yan Feifan quietly retorted, "Mr. Liu, I admit my actions last night were a bit ill-considered, but they definitely weren’t reckless."
"I only decided to use deception and intimidation after I confirmed that guy was faking it."
This made Liu Jin even angrier, his voice rising a notch. "You little brat, you still don’t see what you did wrong?"
Just then, Mr. Miao interrupted, "Mr. Liu, we can continue the lecture later."
"Feifan, first tell us, how did you confirm he was faking?"
Yan Feifan chuckled. "Through a tiny detail: the way he turned the pages of a book."
He then recounted his analysis.
Mr. Miao nodded slowly. "A fake is a fake."
"No matter how convincing the act, the body’s subtle, natural reactions can’t be feigned."
He added, deeply impressed, "Perhaps we could develop a behavioral recognition system like that, one that captures subtle movements and reactions to determine if someone has a mental illness."
"Relying solely on our subjective judgment, mistakes are inevitable."
After a pause, Mr. Miao’s tone turned serious again. "Feifan, although you were fortunate enough to succeed this time, I must point out that you were gambling with your own future."
"Luck won’t always be on your side."
"Feifan, you can’t be so reckless again."
Yan Feifan said obediently, "I’ll be sure to remember that. I never want that plunge from heaven to hell to actually happen to me one day."
"That’s for the best."
Mr. Miao smiled with satisfaction before continuing, "I carefully reviewed last night’s surveillance video."
"Feifan, your portrayal of a hysterical neurotic was incredibly convincing, especially the detail of you silently interacting with an imaginary person beside you. It really highlighted your ’abnormal’ mental state."
"I suspect it was that detail that made Yv Yang believe you really wanted to kill him!"
These few words made another cold sweat break out on Yan Feifan’s back.
Feeling extremely guilty, he explained, "If you want the act to be convincing, you have to work on the details."
Not wanting to continue this topic, Yan Feifan changed the subject. "Teachers, regardless, I did perform a service this time, right?"
Liu Jin snorted. "What, you’re looking for a reward now, are you?"
Yan Feifan gave a sly grin. "I wouldn’t dare ask for a reward. I just want to ask you teachers for a favor."
"I have a neighbor, a little sister figure who I treat like my own flesh and blood."
"She’s taking her high school entrance exams this year. Do any of you have a way to get her into Bin University Affiliated High School?"
