Overpowered Resident Doctor-Chapter 43: Specialist Appointment
"Ah... Ah... I’m so happy I’m going to lose my mind..."
Yan Ziruo came running out of her room, screaming with joy. She grabbed Yan Feifan’s hand and shook it, shouting excitedly, "Feifan, is this for real?"
"That guy is letting us live in such a nice house for free?"
Yan Feifan chuckled softly. "It’s true, Sis."
"And not only that, he also promised that if I can restore his daughter’s face within three years, he’ll give us the house."
Yan Ziruo looked around the neat and elegant living room, which was fully equipped with appliances and furniture. "Just look at the brands of these appliances and furniture, and the quality of the renovations... this must have cost at least a million to start."
"This apartment has to be worth at least twenty million!"
Such a huge number made Yan Ziruo calm down considerably.
"Feifan, his daughter’s condition is very serious, isn’t it? It won’t be easy, will it?"
Yan Feifan hummed in agreement. "It’s certainly not easy. Otherwise, Mr. Wang wouldn’t have made such a huge bet to tempt and motivate me."
"There’s also the fact that I don’t have a clear grasp of my own abilities just yet."
"However, I’ve done some preliminary analysis and simulations. Three years should be enough time."
Yan Ziruo looked at her younger brother, who still had a hint of youthfulness on his face but was brimming with confidence, and reminded him, "Feifan, the bigger the incentive, the greater the pressure. You have to be careful not to overreach."
"We were doing just fine at Happiness Garden."
Yan Feifan chuckled. "Don’t worry, Sis. I know what I’m doing."
"And let me tell you a little secret. Since I just got back to work, I’ve been holding back so I don’t stand out too much."
Yan Ziruo couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him. "You beat the most outstanding young talent of the Yu Family of Jingcheng and took ’Abbess Miejue’ as your master."
"And now you have one of the most famous plastic surgeons in the country offering you a property worth tens of millions as an incentive. You call that being low-key?"
"You’re getting outrageously smug, aren’t you?"
Yan Feifan smiled lightly and changed the subject. "Mr. Wang’s lessons start tomorrow."
"Sis, let’s go buy some bedding and toiletries tonight. We can just make do here for one night, right?"
Yan Ziruo agreed with a hum. "You don’t need to worry about things like moving. Just leave it all to me."
"Come on, let’s go have a big meal first..."
Although she said they would have a big meal, they still had to rush to the supermarket to buy things and tidy up the new house a bit. So, the siblings just went to a decent-looking fast-food restaurant near the complex and ordered a few of their favorite dishes.
To celebrate, Yan Ziruo also ordered a bottle of Tsingtao beer!
Naturally, she was the one who would be drinking it.
In Yan Ziruo’s words, a girl needed to have some level of alcohol tolerance, or she’d be at a disadvantage out in the world.
Just how high his sister’s tolerance for alcohol was, Yan Feifan had never figured out. It was a complete mystery.
He clearly remembered one Spring Festival holiday when his sister, then twenty-one, got into a drinking contest with their maternal uncle for some unknown reason.
The two of them finished red wine, then moved on to yellow wine, and finally drank can after can of beer.
Their uncle ended up so drunk he lay in bed sleeping for a full day and night.
As for Yan Ziruo, other than her face getting a little redder and her eyes a bit glazed over, she showed no major reaction.
The next morning, she got up as usual and dragged Yan Feifan out for a morning workout.
Not long after that drinking contest, their uncle became a sailor and rarely returned to Binhai even once a year...
After dinner, the two siblings went to the nearby Darunfa Supermarket to purchase bedding, toiletries, and other necessities.
This sort of thing was always Yan Ziruo’s responsibility. Yan Feifan just followed behind, in charge of pushing the shopping cart.
Yan Ziruo browsed the bedding section and finally picked out two light cotton quilts, two buckwheat pillows, and two cotton four-piece sets.
"It’s not cold tonight, so we’ll just make do with the basics for one night."
She then started calculating aloud, "Feifan, if we rent out our apartment at Happiness Garden, we can definitely get three or four thousand a month in rent."
"This new place has four rooms, and if we tidy up the attic, someone could live there too."
"And the location is so good..."
Yan Ziruo thought of something and said with disappointment, "But it would be bad if we got a troublesome tenant who disturbed your rest, Feifan."
"Oh well, it’s not our own house yet, after all..."
Suddenly, she cried out in alarm, "Oh no, it’s already 7:40! Tian Yu is probably still waiting for us at our door."
As she spoke, Yan Ziruo pulled out her phone and gave Tian Yu a call, briefly telling her that they had something to do tonight and wouldn’t be coming back.
After ending the call, she said with a touch of sadness, "With us moving this time, I think Tian Yu is going to be the one who’s truly heartbroken."
Yan Feifan smiled. "She can’t freeload meals like before, so of course she’s sad."
"She can come over on weekends and even stay the night..."
The siblings had just finished picking out their bedding and had moved to the daily necessities aisle when they heard someone shouting, "Fanfei! Fanfei!"
Yan Feifan followed the voice and saw a tall, thin young man jogging over. He said happily, "Fanfei, it really is you."
"A few months ago, I heard a rumor that you’d had an accident."
Yan Feifan recognized the guy—Wang Songhe, a middle school student he had tutored a few years ago.
"Wang Songhe, it wasn’t a rumor. I really did have an accident, but I’ve recovered now."
Just as Yan Feifan finished his explanation, he saw a long-haired girl in jeans, wearing light makeup and double-eyelid tape, hurrying over with a shopping cart full of items.
Wang Songhe pointed to the girl and introduced her, "Fanfei, this is my girlfriend, Qiao Nan."
"Qiao Nan, this is the Fanfei I told you about. Without his tutoring, I might not have gotten into Binhai University."
Qiao Nan looked at Yan Feifan and said politely, "Hello, Fanfei!"
Yan Feifan nodded in response.
He noticed four or five cases of soda in the cart Qiao Nan was pushing and casually asked, "Buying so much soda?"
Wang Songhe chuckled. "It’s mainly for me. I drink three or four bottles a day. This will only last me a week or two."
Yan Feifan cautioned him, "You’re addicted to soda. It’s better to drink less."
"Especially since the weather is getting warmer. If you’re sweating a lot and only rehydrating with soda, it’s easy to develop hypokalemia."
Wang Songhe replied, "I’ll drink less in the future, Fanfei."
Yan Feifan could tell from his perfunctory tone that he wasn’t serious, so he didn’t press the issue.
’When it comes to reminders and advice, once is enough.’
’Those who are willing to listen, will listen.’
’For those who aren’t, saying it a hundred times is pointless and will only make them resent you.’
After a bit more small talk, upon learning that Yan Feifan still worked at the Affiliated Hospital, Qiao Nan, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "Fanfei, do you happen to know Specialist Shen Jing from your hospital’s pediatrics department?"
"My five-year-old nephew isn’t in good health, and we’ve been wanting to have Specialist Shen Jing examine him."
"But it’s too difficult to get an appointment with her. We can never manage to book one."
Yan Feifan shook his head. "The hospital is too big. I’m not in a position to talk to Dr. Shen Jing..."
After they parted ways with Wang Songhe and his girlfriend, Yan Ziruo suddenly remarked with a sigh, "The hospital keeps changing the appointment system for specialists, but in the end, most of the available slots are still snatched up by scalpers."
"Patients who need to see a doctor can only buy appointments from them at exorbitant prices."
Yan Feifan analyzed, "Those scalpers make a living off this. They try every possible way to find loopholes in the appointment system, and there’s also collusion between internal and external parties. It’s very difficult to eliminate them."
He continued, "Actually, the vast majority of patients don’t need to see a specialist."
"According to the hospital’s tiered system, major illnesses and difficult cases will gradually be transferred to attending-level physicians."
Yan Ziruo scoffed, "You can’t blame so many people for wanting to go straight to a specialist, even for minor illnesses."
"What if they get misdiagnosed in the process?"
"What if their condition is delayed, and a minor illness turns into a major one? Who’s responsible then?"
Yan Feifan retorted, "Sis, you’re taking individual cases and special circumstances and treating them as the norm."
Yan Ziruo huffed, "I might be talking about special circumstances, but when it happens to a patient, it’s a devastating blow to their family."
"No one wants to be that one-in-a-million case."
Seeing her brother roll his eyes, clearly not wanting to engage with her anymore, Yan Ziruo changed the subject again.
"Feifan, let me tell you something funny."
"I just found out today that Zhang Rong pulled some strings to get into Ren’ai Hospital. He said he’d hired a specialist to operate on his wife."
"And the result...?"
Yan Ziruo said with a hint of schadenfreude, "The one who ended up operating on his wife was just a resident assistant to an attending physician."
"Hmph. Serves him right for not listening to my Feifan’s advice, pulling strings for nothing, and wasting his money..."
