Chapter 65: In the Groves

The sky had a radiant dark shade, the moon was shining like a mirror, the wind was sailing on its path and beneath all of this, a broken horse cart with some hay and sticks treaded for a venture.

Aurelion was layed down, covered completely by the dry grass and raw materials, Stefan was sitting on on the wooden fence without a whip in his hand, nevertheless the horse still listened to all his commands. It was his specialty whether it be small animals like rabbits or the carriage horses, they all listened and liked him without him being controlling. The same happened with the familiars incident too.

The wagon was on its route to the teleportation gate, the path they had taken had an eerie and uncanny presence, but this was preferable for them to fill their inconspicuous approach. They trailed on the muddy, dusty and bumpy route in the forest. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Back in the tower—

Caelion and Evelyn had just finished the dinner. They cleaned themselves up with a napkin and washed their hands with lime water. "... You should rest now, young lady." Caelion said to Evelyn. She bowed, greeted Caelion . "... Give his highness my greetings and ask if he feels well from my side too, your Grace." She said before leaving and left the dining chambers.

Caelion waited for her to leave, quickly went back to his study. He took his favorite spot of the room, lifted his one leg over the other with the side heel of the show being neatly seen. Then, he roared with laughter "... My nephew think he is slick. Hahaha." He chuckled, "... I was going to let him off with some light work at first, but looks like he is a masochist."

He called a maid outside the study, "... Summon Rhael, tell him that I needed something."

Rhael entered the study with hurried steps. "...I was told that you thought of me, your Grace." He greeted. "...Has the preparations for my nephew’s mischief be done?" Caelion asked. "...His mischief? I do not understand what you are implying with that, your Grace." Rhael replied. Caelion paused, took some of his time then asked again "... You sure you do not know about what I am telling you." Rhael simply simply nodded politely. "I see... You can take your leave then, carry on with the other work." Rhael bowed and left the study.

"... Well, that was something new and interesting." He patted his head, "...looks like I will need to take the matters in my own hands then." He gave his idiosyncratic Devilish smile.

In the Groves—

10 minutes later

The night road had been calm until a sharp whistle cut through the air and a burst of light flared against the wagon. Stefan reacted instantly, tightening the reins as some shadows could be seen from the tree line. Cloaked figures advanced, their palms glowing with low-grade spell arrays, some with binding ropes, wind nets etc., only non lethal attacks. Aurelion responded in a flash, he stepped to the rear, forming a compact multi-layered circle without hesitation. A sweep of water mana deflected the next volley of attacks. Earth spikes rose briefly from the ground to disrupt his footing and to steer the wagon away. Then one caster attempted a stun pulse, Aurelion inverted the pulse mid-flight, causing the spell to disperse harmlessly into sparks.

I GUESS, UNCLE HANDSOME FOUND OUT THE TRUTH BY NOW. THESE NPC CHARACTERS DO NOT POSE ANY THREAT TO ME THOUGH, THEY ARE NOT WORTHY ENOUGH TO FIGHT WITH THIS HEAVEN’S CHOSEN ONE.

He thought and fended off all the attacks done by the cloak pursuers effortlessly. In the front, Stefan was giving his all to make sure the wagon does not steer off the course due to the relentless chain of attacks and earth spikes which kept forming throughout the road.

This game of cat and mouse kept going for a while until Aurelion decided to end it for the good. He stacked his multi layered magic circle with 3 layers of magic—fire, water and wind. Aurelion used the wind current as the carrier, set the boundary from the water ripples and use fire as the main cannon and shot a attack at the cloaked ones. "... Meteor Blast.." He shouted.

BOOM

A blast with pel stones raining down happened, the water ripples shift the radius adjusting to every chaser and the wind current provided the speed needed to him them from a far distance. Just in few seconds, every chasing magician was knocked down on the ground.

Aurelion smirked. "... Let’s go Stefan. We are in the clear now." This time Stefan took the reins in his hands and treaded faster so that they can escape before another wave comes in. Some distance passed and they finally reached the stone podium where the teleportation gate was situated in the patch of trees.

Aurelion jumped down from the back, Brushed off the hay from his clothes. Stefan carefully caressed the horse, and patted his head, "... You did great, take some rest now." And got off the seat.

They went up the stone podium and stood there. He already knew that he would need at least 3rd Circle Magic for activation, fortunately he had already prepared for this and learned the accurate ruin spell and transcript to activate the portal.

He chanted. The obsidian stone which was dull in its arc, filled with blueish light to the brim. This indicated the gate was ready for use now.

HA HA AHHH HA, UNCLE HANDSOME, I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND.

Aurelion with his trademark weird and moaning laugh cooked up more weird thoughts in his mind as usual. To celebrate his dominance over a Grand Archmage, he used his multi layered magic circle to shoot firecrackers but in all of five elements.

Then, he entered the activated teleportation gate and walked through it. On the other side, it was bright warm, light from candle flames came, the wooden floor creaked.

"WHAT THE—"
