Picking Up Attributes In Martial World-Chapter 61: The Winner
Ye Jun had no clue what that light was, but he wasn’t willing to take any chances either. Ignoring his exhaustion and fatigue, he pulled himself back to his feet and went toward the bloodied Ye Chen.
’Talisman!’
His eyes widened in surprise, but that lasted only for a moment. In the next second, he kicked Ye Chen between his legs with all of his force. The impact earned him another round of shivering screams.
He was going for the second strike, but Ye Chen’s body turned into light before vanishing completely, leaving the burial chamber empty.
"Haah! Haah!"
Ye Jun panted hard as he stumbled back onto his butt and sat down. He cursed between breaths. "Damn it! How did he get a Talisman like that?"
The Talisman’s purpose was clear. It allowed the user to escape from a predicament smoothly. It was a powerful and helpful function, and Ye Jun knew his clan couldn’t afford something like that.
A look of realization appeared in his eyes. ’The Envoys!’
The Envoys chose to protect good seeds during the Martial Exchange. It was a known fact, so he really shouldn’t have been surprised that one of them might have given an Escape Talisman to Ye Chen.
After all, Ye Chen was the finest genius they could get from Bright Star City except for Xie Yan. They wouldn’t risk his loss even by accident.
"Hahaha!"
Instead of getting angry at the fact that he failed to kill Ye Chen, he actually laughed in happiness. It truly filled him with joy that they had saved him.
"Another chance!"
Currently, they were equal, and Ye Jun was also exhausted, so he couldn’t torment him enough.
"I almost gave him a peaceful death," he sighed. "I really need to thank those Envoys. Now I can kill him later. For now, he’ll live in pain both mentally and physically."
Living was worse than dying.
Ye Chen lost against the person he hated the most. It would impact his mentality deeply. Ye Jun was sure of it, as Ye Chen wasn’t strong in that aspect.
’If he was, we wouldn’t be having this rivalry.’
Not just that, he had also collected attributes from this battle. It put him on the edge of the Fourth Stage. He could feel the Fifth Vortex of Qi ready to form in his Dantian. It also recovered some of the stamina and Qi he had lost.
’So refreshing.’
He spent a few minutes giving rest to his body and mind. He was happy with how things went and felt refreshed as he had finally taken a step forward in his revenge.
Still, a part of him felt melancholic about all of this. The battle with Ye Chen just reminded him of everything he had done, and along with that came memories of the Su Family.
Nothing he did would bring them back. That was a hard fact he had accepted, but it still hurt.
He closed his eyes, tears threatening to come out, but he forced them back.
’I have cried enough on that day. It’s enough.’
It wasn’t, but he forced himself to believe that. Crying wouldn’t achieve anything, and there were many things left to do.
Ye Jun sat up and looked down. If he spent more time resting, his mind would wander back to the past, to things he didn’t want to remember.
"I’m alone here," he realized as his eyes went toward the coffin. "What are you? What is this strange feeling? A calling?"
It felt strange, as if something was calling him there. Normally, he would stay far away from such ominous things, but something compelled him forward.
’Perhaps a body possession,’ he chuckled to himself and decided to go down.
His instincts weren’t warning him of danger, so he chose to check it out. He had already come this far, so why not see it through?
Ye Jun stood up and went toward the edge. His body was still wounded, so he didn’t know if he could endure the gravity, but he decided to give it a try.
However, the moment he stepped onto the second step, he noticed something that baffled him.
"No gravity?"
To be exact, the crushing gravity had disappeared and normal gravity replaced it. He didn’t feel anything unusual, and looking down, he saw only normal stairs leading to the coffin, as normal as these massive stone steps could be.
"So, it vanishes once only one remains?" Ye Jun finally understood. "It really was a trial, and nobody could reach the bottom technically. Fuck!"
He could only imagine the kind of gravity present at the bottom earlier. The owner had designed it in such a way that people had to fight until only one remained.
’Or maybe be persistent enough to wait until all gave up. What a weirdo!’
Shaking his head, Ye Jun climbed down carefully. Although he couldn’t see any more traps, he didn’t trust this eccentric owner. Who knew if he was pulling another prank?
’Maybe I have passed the trial.’
He passed the fifth step where he had struggled so much and then the last two remaining ones. By the Seventh Step, the stairs had grown narrow and short enough to be considered normal.
Before him sat a wooden coffin upon a pedestal. Eternal incense burned on the sides while many ritualistic items accompanied the dead.
He ignored them and went toward the coffin. Carefully, he slid open the lid. Surprisingly, it came off easily despite being who knew how many years old.
Peeking inside, he found a skeleton resting within, dressed in bright red robes. The owner rested peacefully in death, and Ye Jun tapped on his heart three times, a way to show respect to the dead in these lands.
Perhaps it was because of his Death Affinity, but he could feel that the owner had embraced the solace of death, and that made him smile faintly.
’I am getting weird,’ he scoffed to himself and looked toward the corner where he found a few items he assumed were his rewards.
Perhaps, it was the inheritance.
