Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 437: She Is the Sole Heir
She still remembered that she was sitting on the sofa in the study that day.
The items on his desk were arranged simply, with the usual traditional study tools, a computer, and various work supplies.
And there was a photograph.
A photo of them with Seraphina.
In the picture, they were holding hands, and Seraphina was standing between them, smiling.
A family photograph.
At that time, looking at the photo, she asked, "What’s going on?"
Silas Hawthorne handed her another document.
It was a will.
Serena only glanced at it and looked up at him in confusion.
"Take a look first." He said with a smile.
As she went through it, seeing the contents inside, her eyes turned slightly red.
The will was very simple: if he died, she was the sole heir to all his inheritance.
At that time, she choked up a bit.
Although when a spouse passes away, the other can inherit, there can still be many disputes.
For example, who else would the inheritance be shared with? How much would they get? Or whether there were clauses to protect corporate interests?
Like when she married Julian Lawson, to protect corporate interests, she accepted a prenuptial agreement, so even when she divorced Julian Lawson, there were no changes in shares.
"What about Mrs. Huxley and June, Orion?" Serena asked.
"Serena, I’ve always said they have arrangements. Everything that’s mine is yours." He said, "If you don’t want to accept it now, then wait until later."
At that time, she asked him, what if they separated?
He just smiled and said, "Also yours."
Everything he had was hers.
He said that even if he wasn’t by her side, he still hoped she would live well.
That was his promise.
Pulled out from the memories, Serena’s eyes were slightly red, and she lowered them slightly, not letting Secretary Sawyer see.
"Okay, I want to see him." Serena said softly.
And Secretary Sawyer had already opened the door for her.
Serena walked step by step into the office she had visited many times.
When Silas Hawthorne heard the noise, he looked up.
"Serena." He stood up and smiled, "Is everything settled?"
Serena nodded, "Yes," and then came to his side.
The desk in his office was as simple as the one in the study.
Similarly, there was a photo of them on the desk, easily visible with a glance.
The office door was already closed by Secretary Sawyer, and Serena’s nose felt sour.
"What’s wrong?" Silas noticed something was off about Serena and asked worriedly.
Serena didn’t speak, just shook her head and burrowed into his arms.
Silas gently patted her back, holding her.
Seeing some ashes from burnt paper money on her hair, he knew she had just been to the cemetery.
He lovingly held her tight.
The photo sat on the desk, Silas recalled the scene when he handed her the will in the study.
He knew what she was thinking.
Her marriage to Julian Lawson had almost cost her her life.
When she divorced Julian Lawson, she nearly left with nothing, taking only her belongings, while the Lawson Corporation still held onto the Sheridan Family’s assets, only recently returning them.
He knew the failed marriage left her scared to hope, afraid to think too far ahead, but...
Silas gently removed the ashes from Serena’s hair.
He had waited so many years for her.
People said he was 29 and still unmarried, even suspecting he had some hidden condition.
But only he knew.
She was his only choice.
From their youthful meeting, to seeing her again after near-death confirmed his deep love, waiting so long, finally the opportunity came.
If Julian Lawson treated her well, if Julian Lawson loved her dearly, he would have watched silently.
But maybe it was fate’s arrangement, they separated, giving him the chance to seize the moment.
He remembered the day Serena and Julian Lawson finalized their divorce.
That day he waited outside the civil affairs office for a long, long time.
He watched as she and Julian Lawson walked into the office together.
He counted every second.
Unprecedented anxiety.
Even facing deathly situations at sea, he had never felt so nervous.
He imagined all kinds of scenarios: Julian Lawson backing out, or some accident preventing the divorce.
But fortunately, in the end, he saw them come out with the divorce certificates, saying their final goodbyes.
Then, impulsively, he rushed up.
No holding back, even if she found him presumptuous, he proposed.
Because he had waited too many years and could not wait any longer.
He feared if he waited a moment longer, someone else would take the chance.
He had to get in first, stop at nothing.
Time slowly passed, after a while, Serena finally controlled her emotions.
She looked up at Silas.
"Is it true?" Serena said softly.
"It’s true." He gently kissed her lips, "Serena, I’m here."
He held her hand tightly, giving her strength.
Serena smiled, though her eyes were still red.
"Shall we go see General Ginger?" Silas suggested, "Lately it seems to have gained some sense, realizing it’s the cat king of the area, now it’s causing trouble everywhere, acting like it owns the place."
Serena suddenly laughed, dissipating much of the unreal sorrow she felt before.
"Okay." She said.
Silas immediately put down his work, holding Serena’s hand as they left.
As they exited the office, he gave a look to Secretary Sawyer.
Secretary Sawyer understood, indicating the meeting was delayed, and all schedules pushed back.
As Secretary Sawyer went to inform, Silas and Serena were already searching for the cat around the entire Hawthorne Group.
The cat strutted through Hawthorne Group, demanded to be addressed as "General Ginger" everywhere it went, now who knows where it had gone to cause trouble.
The two searched through many places.
Little closets, behind the money trees, and the cat snack storage room General Ginger loved sneaking into.
Nothing.
Finally, they found General Ginger in a corner.
Alongside General Ginger, there were also two dogs.
"Meow!"
General Ginger meowed.
"Woof woof!"
The two dogs immediately stood and responded.
General Ginger had found two little henchmen.
Seeing them coming over, General Ginger immediately bounced over, tail held high, brushing against their calves.
"Meow!"
It meowed.
"Woof woof!" The two dogs responded at once.
Serena couldn’t help but laugh.
She reached out to pet the cat.
Silas went to get cat treats, and also had someone buy some dog food.
But the dogs dared not eat, just watching General Ginger.
"This is dog food, you can let your little brothers eat it." Serena said to General Ginger.
General Ginger, understandingly, watched as Serena and Silas set out the dog food, then meowed, and the two dogs began to devour it ravenously.
Serena couldn’t stop smiling.
Silas crouched beside her, smiling as well.
Serena watched the cat and two dogs, while Silas watched her.
Later, during their time together, many people told him not to spoil a woman too much, otherwise, she’d become unruly.
But he just wouldn’t listen.
