Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You-Chapter 467: Anyone But Him
This was an idea that Zink had been thinking about for a long time before coming up with it.
If Serena Sterling didn’t come to find him, he would come over.
He had memorized these words for a long time, and he had to use them!
But now that Serena wasn’t following the script, what should he do?
Serena looked at Zink warily and said, "But you said that day, it’s just a pot of plants, you wouldn’t be stingy."
That was indeed what he said...
But...wait...huh?
"So, sir, you can’t take it back." Serena said, as if protecting her chicks, "If you like plants, I’ll pick a nice one and send it to you later."
Thinking about it, Serena added, "If you don’t want me to visit you, I can have Raine bring it over."
"No..." Zink subconsciously started to speak.
"Then I’ll deliver it to you myself." Serena said.
"No, no, you’re confusing me." Zink said.
But Serena just smiled.
"What I mean is, if I give it to you, it’s yours." Zink said.
That should do it.
He wouldn’t seem like a stingy old man anymore.
"That’s good." Serena said, letting out a sigh of relief, and led Zink to the sofa, seemingly to move away from the potted plant a bit.
Serena brought some tea and said, "Sir, have some tea."
Zink grunted, and then took the teacup from Serena’s hand and sipped it.
After putting down the teacup, Zink’s eyes couldn’t help but float toward the table Serena was looking at.
But Serena sat there with her gaze steady, pouring herself a cup of tea.
"How’s the young girl from the Jenkins Family?" Zink suddenly asked.
"Are you referring to my mother?" Serena asked.
"Yes." Zink responded.
Serena put down her teacup.
"After my dad passed away, my mother and I didn’t have it easy." Serena said, also looking at the table.
"She took me around working hard, and later..." Serena paused for a moment, lowered her eyes slightly, and continued, "She remarried with me."
Zink looked at Serena’s profile.
He had actually heard some of these things, and also heard that Serena’s stepfather often beat her, who was later sent to jail by Julian Lawson.
The office suddenly fell quiet.
It seemed both were lost in memories, without speaking.
The steam from the tea on the table swirled up, the tea’s aroma wafting around.
Outside the window, the sky was blue and the clouds drifted slowly.
Finally, Serena was the first to pull herself out of the memories.
"Now it’s alright, my mom lives with me and Silas." Serena said, smiling as she looked at Zink.
Zink looked at her instinctively.
For some reason, his heart suddenly felt a trace of pity.
"Are you going to marry Silas Hawthorne?" Zink asked.
Serena nodded: "Yes, it’s not long now, both families have already sent out the invitations. Will you attend my wedding with Silas, sir?"
Zink wanted to say no, but looking at Serena’s eyes, he found himself unable to speak the words.
"It depends on my schedule." Zink looked aside and said, "If I don’t have time, I won’t go."
Serena glanced at the side of his face and smiled faintly.
If he doesn’t have time, he won’t go. So, if he has time, he’ll go, right?
Zink didn’t hear Serena make a sound, so he turned his head and saw her smiling at him.
Zink felt a pang of mixed emotions.
This face resembles Sheila Jenkins even more, but her personality and habits resemble Aeon more.
Back then, Evan Sheridan had embarrassed his daughter so badly, she got married hastily in anger to a man she didn’t love, living a superficial yet corrupt life.
But when facing Evan’s daughter Serena, he didn’t seem to dislike her.
Besides... originally, he didn’t dislike Evan Sheridan either, otherwise he wouldn’t have allowed his daughter to have those few meals with him; it was all because of the things that happened later.
No way!
Zink suddenly came back to his senses.
He couldn’t let Serena discover it!
Luckily, Serena had already picked up her tea again and wasn’t looking at him.
Zink breathed a sigh of relief.
He thought for a moment, then walked over to her computer again.
The desktop was still filled with the photos Silas Hawthorne had sent her.
"Are these your wedding photos?" Zink asked.
Serena walked over, nodded, and said, "Yes, we’re choosing."
Looking at their wedding photos, Zink felt a mixture of emotions.
"Among the younger generation, I actually prefer Julian Lawson." he said.
Serena looked at him, and after about three seconds, she said, "Sir, he’s my ex-husband."
"Moreover..." Serena smiled, saying, "Our divorce didn’t end prettily."
Zink also heard about it, saying a small internet celebrity got involved, becoming the third party.
But he also heard that the third party was later wanted by the law.
And it was said that Julian Lawson tried to win Serena back later.
"Maybe you can give it another try?" Zink suggested.
"No." Serena smiled, "It could be anyone, but it can’t be him."
Serena smiled, but there was no hint of joy in her eyes.
She was smiling, but she looked deeply sad.
Between her and Julian Lawson, there was the life of a child.
In that dim stairwell, the Serena who once loved Julian Lawson had already died.
After he personally pushed her down the steps and left her there, they could never be possible again.
Even though later she found out it was Vera Hansen who leveraged a push.
But their child was truly gone.
His disregard was real.
Her brushing with death, the near-loss of fertility, was also real.
Looking at the somewhat dazed Zink, Serena continued, "Besides, I love Silas."
This sentence pulled Zink back to the moment.
"Oh, oh, it was my slip of the tongue." Zink said.
"It’s fine." Serena replied gently.
Her gaze shifted to the photo frame on the table.
She reached out, gently touching it.
Then, she withdrew her hand, took a deep breath, and looked back at Zink again.
"Sir, do you have anything else?" Serena asked.
"Oh, no, I was just passing by, just passing by." Zink said, and then pretending to be busy, checked the time, "I should be going back too."
"Alright, I’ll see you out." Serena said, following Zink as she opened the door and walked out with him.
Raine and Zink’s secretary were happily chatting, and when they saw the two coming out, they stopped talking.
Serena looked at Raine and asked, "Raine, have you sorted out the flower shop matters?"
Raine nodded, "I’ve already sent the contact and address over, and I’ve also spoken to my friend’s mother."
"Good." Serena responded, then glanced at Zink.
Zink also nodded, signaling to the secretary to leave together.
Serena followed, saying she would see him to the elevator.
In the empty corridor, Zink walked while stealing glances at Serena.
He wanted to say something, but couldn’t find the words.
But as he was thinking about it, his foot caught, and he nearly fell.
"Chairman!" the secretary exclaimed in shock.
If the old bones fell like this, wouldn’t they fracture?
Zink was already thinking he might have to spend a few months in the hospital when a hand firmly caught him.
Zink turned around and saw Serena’s smiling face.
"Careful, sir." Serena said, stabilizing Zink.
The secretary, sweating in fright, immediately came over to support Zink.
Zink wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"Thank you." he said.
"Don’t mention it, it’s my duty." Serena said, here at Aeon’s doorstep.
Serena escorted the old man to the car downstairs before leaving.
The driver started the car, and as it drove away, Zink sat in the backseat, and the secretary in the front passenger seat nervously remarked, "Chairman, that just now scared the life out of me."
Zink glared at her irritably, then lowered the divider in the backseat.
With only Zink in the compartment, he thought for a moment, then took out his phone, found the number labeled as his daughter’s, and dialed it.
After a moment, someone answered.
"Dad?" came the voice on the other side, "What’s up? Why aren’t you talking?"
Zink’s expression was complicated.
"Chloe, I think I might have made a mistake." Zink admitted, feeling guilty.
