Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 207 - - a chance?
Chapter 207 - 207- a chance?
Cynthia stayed at the hospital until late, tirelessly helping Wendy take care of Maureen. Being a doctor, she was familiar with rehabilitation techniques, so she continuously massaged Maureen to aid her recovery.
Wendy and Maureen both felt embarrassed by her efforts, but Cynthia found joy in what she was doing. On one hand, she sincerely hoped Maureen would recover soon. On the other, a thought kept lingering in her mind—as if by doing this, she could somehow help lessen his guilt.
Cynthia, aren't you being foolish? Foolish enough to have that man on your mind all the time, yet still believe you haven't forgiven him?
Just as Cynthia left the hospital, she received a call from Vivian, saying that her fiancé wanted to treat her and Bonnie to dinner. She gladly accepted—she and Bonnie had been looking forward to this day for a long time. As best friends, they had to make sure Vivian's happiness was well protected.
Vivian's fiancé was a refined and gentle man with glasses. When he first met them, he was a little shy, but he gradually warmed up, showing his humorous and witty side. Both Cynthia and Bonnie were quite pleased with him. More importantly, the way he looked at Vivian was filled with nothing but affection and indulgence.
When he stepped away to use the restroom, Cynthia and Bonnie teased Vivian, saying that her love life was enviable enough to make others jealous. Vivian, ever confident, straightened her back and said smugly,
"I invited you two here today exactly to flaunt my happiness and make you suffer!"
"You heartless woman!"
Bonnie immediately smacked her on the back, making Vivian cry out in exaggerated pain.
"Bonnie, look at you—such a terrible temper! You've always had someone spoiling you. First, it was Carl Laurence, and now it's James!"
The moment Vivian mentioned those two names, Bonnie's expression dimmed. She pursed her lips and fell silent.
Ever since the upheaval in the Laurence family four years ago, Carl Laurence had disappeared. Later, James told her that he could save Carl, and so she married him.
Afterward, Carl called her once to let her know he was safe and living well, telling her not to worry. But soon after, he disappeared again. Occasionally, he would call, but their conversations never lasted long before he hurriedly hung up.
Whenever she tried calling him back, no one would answer. At first, she felt worried, disappointed, and hurt, but over time, she gradually got used to his unpredictable way of keeping in touch.
Cynthia kept giving Vivian subtle glances, signaling her to stop talking. Vivian, however, sighed and took both of their hands.
"Bonnie, Cynthia, do you know why I flaunt my happiness in front of you?" she said. "It's because I want you both to seize your own happiness and live your lives well!"
Cynthia and Bonnie's expressions darkened at the same time, but Vivian pressed on, ignoring their reluctance.
"Bonnie, let's start with you. Everyone can see how much James cares about you, but you're the only one stubbornly refusing to admit it!"
They say those involved are often the most blind, while outsiders see everything clearly. As an outsider, Vivian had long seen through her two best friends' emotions.
Bonnie let out an awkward laugh, pretending not to understand and using her usual clueless act to avoid the topic.
Vivian rolled her eyes at her and then turned to Cynthia.
"Bonnie is at least a little better. But Cynthia—what about you? Since you've already found the courage to come back, why not give Albert a chance?"
Cynthia turned her head slightly to hide the emotions in her eyes and replied in an overly casual tone,
"Why should I give him a chance? After everything he's done—"
"Cynthia!"
Before she could finish, Vivian interrupted her sharply, her bright eyes locking onto Cynthia's.
"Cynthia, I don't want to hear anything else from you. But let me tell you this—if you dare to look me and Bonnie in the eye today and say you don't love Albert anymore, we will stop meddling in your business for good!"
Cynthia frowned, feeling both helpless and surprised as she looked at Vivian. But Vivian refused to let her escape and pressed her again.
"Do you dare to say it?"
Cynthia felt suffocated by Vivian's insistence. The words "I don't love him anymore" were stuck in her throat, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't say them. Instead, she grabbed the glass of water in front of her and gulped it down, using the rush of liquid to suppress the frustration in her heart.

In the end, she panted slightly and shook her head.
"Vivian, stop it... Please, just stop."
Seeing her like this, Vivian finally let it go. Cynthia's reaction had already exposed everything in her heart. As a lifelong best friend, all Vivian wanted was for them to find their own happiness.
Cynthia stayed out late, chatting and laughing with Bonnie and Vivian. By the time she finally got home, she quickly freshened up and went to bed. She had met up with everyone she needed to—except Vince.
Tomorrow was Sunday, and she decided to stay home, take a break, and clear her mind. She had already told Bonnie that she would officially start work on Monday.
But her plans for a peaceful morning were ruined when the doorbell rang early. Half-asleep, hair messy, and thoroughly annoyed, she dragged herself to the door.
The moment she opened it, a small figure rushed into her arms, carrying the crisp chill of the morning air. Olive wrapped her little arms around Cynthia and planted a big, wet kiss on her pale cheek.
"Mommy, morning—!"
Cynthia felt like she was about to collapse from exhaustion, but she forced herself to pull it together, kissed Olive back weakly, and mumbled,
"Morning, baby."
Just then, a deep voice sounded from above her head.
"Something urgent came up at work. I need to leave for a last-minute business trip. Olive will stay with you today—call Fredy before you head to the office, and he'll pick her up."
The unexpected words snapped Cynthia out of her groggy state. Her eyes widened as she looked up, only to see a certain man standing at her door, lips curved into a faint smile as he gazed at her.
