Chapter 228: Chapter 228- I’m heartbroken

The air in the dark room was thick with tension.

A cold-faced man was viciously fighting with a smaller, somewhat frail man. The smaller man was clearly no match for him, and after a few moments of resistance, he was knocked to the ground. But the cold-faced man refused to stop, crazed, he advanced and struck punch after punch at the man lying on the floor.

"BOSS, stop, stop!"

A man standing nearby rushed forward to pull him away, pleading desperately,

"BOSS, if you kill him, we’ll be left with absolutely no clues!"

The man in a rage was Quinn. He had come to Japan to deal with a family betrayal, but after witnessing that scene this morning, he felt like he could kill. Every person who had angered him met the same fate—beaten senseless.

With Arven’s desperate intervention, Quinn finally released the man on the ground. Wiping the sweat off his brow, he threw himself into a leather chair, his gaze dark and menacing, fixated on the man below. The man, trembling from both the physical blows and the terrifying gaze, finally revealed the truth about the situation.

By the time Albert returned to his mansion with Cynthia, she had already fallen into a deep sleep in the car. He knew she would be like that, especially after he had worn her out the previous night. He couldn’t bring himself to wake her up, so he just carried her out of the car and gently placed her down.

His little princess came running out of the house, giggling and eager to greet him. He quickly shushed her, and she obediently quieted down, then skipped along behind him into the bedroom.

After carefully laying the sleeping woman on the large bed, the little girl wasted no time climbing onto it. When she saw her mother’s tear-streaked face, she immediately put her hands on her hips and angrily asked Albert,

"Daddy, why is Mommy crying? Did you make her mad?"

Of course, she whispered in a tiny voice so as not to wake her mother. Albert shot her a stern look, his face dark with frustration, and snapped back,

"I didn’t!"

How could she say something like that? Was he really that bad? At this point, he wouldn’t dare make her mad. He was doing everything to pamper her to the heavens—he would never upset her now.

The little girl looked at her mom, pouting, still unconvinced, and asked again,

"Then why is she crying?"

Seeing her mom cry made her heart hurt too.

Albert felt a bit of a headache, but he couldn’t explain the complicated emotions between adults, so he simply tried to comfort her,

"Mommy’s crying because she’s happy."

Looking at the little girl’s proud, pouting face, it reminded him so much of another woman. How come this girl hadn’t inherited any of the good qualities? No, wait—she had inherited his cleverness. As for her appearance? She was still a beautiful little thing, no matter how you looked at it.

The little girl climbed into his arms, tilting her head in confusion,

"Crying because she’s happy?"

He gritted his teeth and made up an explanation,

"Yes, because Mommy and Daddy had some misunderstandings before, but after they were cleared up, Mommy was so happy that she cried!"

It wasn’t entirely a lie, though there was some truth to it.

"Oh..."

The little girl nodded, still not fully understanding, then threw another question at him,

"Then why is Mommy sleeping during the day? Didn’t she sleep last night?"

Albert, completely losing his patience, scooped her up from the big bed and stood up with her in his arms,

"Olive Wilson, where do you get all these ’whys’ from?"

The person on the bed stirred restlessly at his loud voice. Albert quickly carried Olive out of the room and seized the opportunity to shift the topic to something more child-appropriate,

"Olive, Daddy has a question for you. Do you want Mommy to move in here with us?"

"If Mommy moves in, does that mean Olive can sleep with Mommy every night like before?"

The little girl naively thought it would be just like when they were in Australia, where Mommy didn’t sleep with Hardy, but instead cuddled with her every night.

She wanted to sleep with Mommy every night? And what about him? But since he had to rely on his daughter for this, Albert could only grit his teeth and nod in agreement. Olive immediately beamed and kissed his face repeatedly,

"Then I want Mommy to move in, Daddy, hurry and let Mommy move in!"

With a secret smile, Albert tried to comfort his little princess,

"Olive is such a good girl. After Mommy wakes up, you can tell her, okay?"

Olive kept nodding eagerly,

"Mm-hmm!"

So, when Cynthia woke up in the late afternoon, the first thing she saw was Olive’s sweet and charming little face. Bored, Olive had climbed into her bed to wait for her to wake up. She played with her long hair, kissed her little face, and mischievously poked at her chest. One of the reasons Cynthia woke up was because Olive had been playing with her like this.

After the two of them had a little fun on the bed, Olive blinked her big eyes, her face full of expectation, and said,

"Mommy, can you move here and live with Daddy?"

In the study, Jared Boston was standing by the window, his back to the two of them. Hearing them enter, he slowly turned around. His eyes briefly glanced at their tightly clasped hands before shifting to Albert. He said coldly,

"You have two choices now: either give her up, or give up your vast fortune and everything you have now!"

Upon hearing this, Cynthia was immediately shocked and heartbroken, crying out,

"Dad—how could you do this?"

Jared gave her an annoyed glare. How could this girl be so impulsive? He was just testing the guy. He wanted to see whether the young man valued his wealth or the woman!

Albert held back Cynthia, who was emotionally out of control and about to argue with Jared. With a sneer, he curled the corner of his mouth and said firmly, word by word,

"I choose the latter." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

A look of surprise crossed Jared’s face. Clearly, he hadn’t expected such a straightforward answer. Cynthia, even more shocked, couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

"What?"

It was well known that Albert’s career was booming, and his wealth could rival nations. Yet, he was willing to give it up just like that? She grabbed his arm and shook him,

"Albert, are you crazy?!"

He didn’t say a word. Instead, he reached out and pulled her trembling shoulder close, hugging her tightly, offering her warmth and strength to calm her down.

Jared suppressed the surprise in his eyes, smiled meaningfully, and said,

"Alright! Very well! But have you thought about this? If you do this, you’ll have nothing left. Can you guarantee that you can provide a worry-free life for your wife and daughter?"

Albert raised an eyebrow dismissively,

"So what? After all, I started from nothing and built my career up from scratch. Now, I can do it again!"

Cynthia could tell by his tone that he was serious. Her heart sank with a mix of anxiety and concern as she looked up at him, only to find his face calm and indifferent. Her uneasy heart slowly settled. Perhaps what she should do now wasn’t stop him, but stand behind him and give him her firmest support.

Turning to Jared, she said with determination,

"Dad, I love him. Whether he’s extraordinary or ordinary, whether he’s the Vice President of BlackRock or just a nobody working a small job, I love him!"

She felt the large hand resting on her shoulder tremble for a moment before pulling her even closer. She continued with unwavering conviction,

"Whatever kind of life we live with him, whether it’s full of riches or simple and plain, I won’t leave him. So what if we have nothing? We’re still young, and we have plenty of opportunities to create our future with our own hands!"

Cynthia finished her heartfelt words in one breath. By the end, her emotions were running high. Taking a deep breath, she looked at Jared again and said,

"Dad, I’m happy we’ve been able to reconnect, but what you’re doing right now..."

Her face was filled with deep sorrow,

"I just want to say... I’m heartbroken."

She finished speaking and grabbed Albert’s hand, using a commanding tone for the first time as she said,

"We’re leaving!"

She then pulled him away, not looking back. Albert didn’t resist, letting her pull him along. There was something oddly charming about how forceful she was, but what he found the most endearing was what she had just said.

Her words—"I love him, whether he’s extraordinary or ordinary, whether he’s the Vice President of BlackRock or just a nobody working a small job, I love him!"—kept echoing in his mind, making his heart tremble again and again, to the point where he would willingly give up everything for her.

As they reached the hallway, they saw James and Olive. Cynthia’s face still showed sadness as she walked up, scooped up Olive, and said to James,

"Bro, we’re leaving."

Albert gave James a faint smile, then took Olive from him, holding Cynthia’s shoulder as they walked out. Even if he had to give up his vast fortune and end up with nothing, so what? He still had his wife and daughter. They were his most precious treasures!
