Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 236- So handsome!
He scoffed, shaking off her hand. But, deep down, he couldn’t deny that her following after him and her simple "I’m sorry" had softened some of the fire in his chest.
She stepped forward again, blocking his path, reaching out to him once more.
"I’m really sorry. I have my reasons. You know my brother... he’s a wanted man. I thought it would be better if fewer people knew I came to find him..."
Her voice faltered toward the end, but his icy, piercing gaze cut through her. Did she really think that by telling him, he’d betray Carl Laurence? If he were that kind of person, he wouldn’t have saved Carl in the first place!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Without saying another word, he stepped forward, hailing a car to leave. But to his surprise, she followed him, attempting to get in.
He raised an eyebrow and snapped at her, "What are you doing?"
His words were sharp, but as he moved over in the seat, there was no real effort to push her out. In fact, part of him hoped she’d stay and not get out.
To his surprise, she climbed in, quickly shutting the door behind her. She looked at him, anxiety in her eyes, then muttered softly, "I... I’m returning your phone to you..."
She handed him the phone—the screen shattered from when he had thrown it earlier.
"I’m sure there are important contacts in here. Leaving it like this... it could cause a lot of trouble for you..."
Her words, simple as they were, showing a bit of concern for him, had the effect of dousing his anger. He silently took the phone from her, turning his head away as he muttered, not wanting to acknowledge the change in his feelings.
She sat there, hesitantly asking him, "You... where are you staying?"
The driver, sensing the awkwardness in the air, asked in broken English where he should take them. James gave him an impatient glance, the urgency to get moving evident in his expression. He turned his gaze back to Bonnie, crossing his arms, leaning back against the seat, and studying her with a sharp look.
"Do I look like someone who’s already found a place to stay?" His voice was laced with sarcasm.
He hadn’t packed anything. Just his wallet and passport—he’d rushed straight to the airport, fueled only by the need to confirm that she was here. The thought of finding a hotel never even crossed his mind.
Bonnie shrank back, clearly sensing the tension in the air. She fell silent, a flicker of regret flashing across her face. James noted it with a cold internal scoff. At least she realized she’d pushed him too far.
After a brief pause, he gave her a sharp command, his tone leaving no room for discussion.
"I’m going to the airport."
"Ah? You’re heading back to the country right now?" Her surprise was obvious, and he responded succinctly with a single word.
"Yeah."
This was his chance. She wasn’t daring enough to fight back now, and he was determined to use this moment to teach her a lesson. To remind her that she wasn’t the only one who could push boundaries. For a brief moment, he wondered—was she really only bold because she knew how much he cared for her?
Bonnie bit her lip, clearly troubled.
"But... but my things... they’re still at my brother’s place."
James felt a strange, unexpected joy in his chest at her words. All the clouds of frustration and the weariness from his rushed trip seemed to dissipate in an instant. It seemed like she was planning to go with him—finally.
However, even as his heart lightened, his face remained impassive, the mask of control still firmly in place.
"You have five minutes to grab your things. Five minutes, and I’m leaving," he said sternly.
Her immediate protest was fiery, "James, are you out of your mind? My brother’s house is huge! I won’t even make it to the door in five minutes!"
The way she pouted and frowned was almost too cute for him to handle. He nearly let his guard slip, about to step forward to comfort her. But he quickly reined it in, maintaining his serious expression, though a small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Ten minutes."
She shot him an exasperated look, but her irritation was laced with something else. Maybe, just maybe, she was trying to cajole him. After all, this was the first time she’d shown such a vulnerable side. For that, he could give her a few extra minutes. But deep down, he hated the thought of her spending even a moment longer with Carl Laurence.
She stormed off, glaring at him, and ran toward the house. Watching her retreating figure, a soft smile tugged at his lips. He was actually enjoying her reactions, even if they made him angry. Seeing her express herself so vividly in front of him was something he didn’t mind at all—even if it made his blood boil.
They eventually made it to the airport, and after securing the quickest flight out, they still had hours to kill. He had wanted to take her to a nice restaurant for some authentic Thai food, but she claimed to be tired—likely from the days of running around with Carl Laurence.
Despite his frustration, he relented and took her to a simple restaurant in the airport, where they had a quick meal. Afterward, they had plenty of time before boarding, and she pulled out her laptop to busy herself online, leaving him sitting alone.
It seemed like things between them were slowly changing—one step forward, but still so much left unsaid.
He frowned, clearly irritated by the scene unfolding in front of him. Bonnie, so caught up in her online browsing, didn’t even notice his growing displeasure. As she chuckled to herself, clearly enjoying whatever she was seeing, he couldn’t help but wonder—had she always been this comfortable around him? She was so at ease, so relaxed. Had she ever been this way when they were together before?
Then, without warning, she exclaimed, "So handsome!"
That was the breaking point for him. His expression darkened, and he silently moved to sit beside her. His eyes fell on her screen, and he saw that she was browsing entertainment news. The image that had caught her attention was of a Korean actor in a street style shoot.
So, she was so absorbed in this that she didn’t even realize he was sitting there? What happened to the serious woman he thought he knew? He hadn’t realized she was such a fan of these idols, especially considering how she acted around him. A little annoyed, he reached over and shut her laptop.
Startled, she immediately started patting his hand away in frustration. "Hey, hey, what are you doing?" she protested.
He simply let go of the laptop and stared at her coldly as she quickly reopened it to continue her admiration. His voice was tinged with sarcasm as he said, "That’s what you call handsome?"
Bonnie rolled her eyes and shot back, "You’re just saying that because you’re jealous! He’s not just a pretty boy, you know. Have you seen him in dramas? He’s got so much charm!"
She turned back to her screen, not realizing how her words had struck him. Then, when she noticed he was sitting so close, her face turned pink with embarrassment. She quickly scooted a little further away from him, awkwardly laughing it off.
In her mind, she knew she’d made a mistake—she had just spent so much time complimenting another man right in front of her own husband. The irony wasn’t lost on her. If James were any less attractive, she could have brushed it off. But no, he was every bit as striking, if not more, than that celebrity.
