Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 240- do you love him
Bonnie was still pointing at the menu with her long fingers, speaking to the waiter. Her expression was calm, showing no signs of emotion. She felt a sense of hopelessness. What exactly did she feel for her brother?
After the waiter left, the atmosphere became awkward. Cynthia didn’t know how to bring up James again. Bonnie’s gaze remained fixed on Olive, who was struggling with the small dessert in front of her. After a while, Bonnie suddenly asked softly,
"Cynthia, how did you have the courage to keep Olive when you were alone?"
Cynthia tilted her head and glanced at Olive, who was covered in cream. She reached out to affectionately rub her hair, then spoke gently.
"Bonnie, to be honest, when I first found out I was pregnant, I did consider terminating the pregnancy. After all, at that time, Albert and I were already on the verge of falling apart!"
Bonnie sat quietly, watching her. There was a light in her eyes that was both resolute and unregretful as she said,
"But that thought was only a fleeting one. I quickly decided I wanted to keep the baby because I felt that no matter what happened between the adults, the child was innocent..."
After hearing Cynthia’s words, Bonnie’s expression wavered. Wasn’t it too careless of her to just end an innocent life so easily?
After Cynthia finished speaking, she noticed Bonnie furrowing her brows and lost in deep thought. Surprised, she leaned in and asked mysteriously,
"Bonnie, why are you asking this? You wouldn’t be—"
"You’re talking nonsense!"
Bonnie immediately interrupted her before she could finish. It was as though she wanted to avoid further discussing the topic. Quickly, she changed the subject.
"Cynthia, I have to say, your luck is just unbelievable. I struggled for four years to climb to the position of director, and you came and, after just a few days, you’re already going to become the station head, passing me by. It’s just not fair!"
Cynthia laughed with a chuckle.
"Actually, it could be pretty fair. If you were the station head’s wife, I’d never be able to pass you, because at most, I could only be the deputy station head!"
She was so angry that she pretended to slap the table.
"Cynthia, can you just eat properly and talk normally?"
"Alright, alright! I won’t say anything more, let’s eat!"
Cynthia quickly raised both hands in surrender.
The dishes they ordered came one after another, and the three of them quietly began eating. Halfway through the meal, Cynthia couldn’t hold back any longer. She put down her chopsticks and asked,
"Bonnie, actually, I asked you out today because I want to know, what kind of feelings do you have for my brother... did you ever love him?"
She was desperate, wanting them both to be happy. One was her close friend, and the other was her brother. She hoped that they could both find happiness.
Bonnie lowered her head, poking at the rice in her bowl. Her voice was slightly hoarse as she spoke.
"Maybe... at certain moments, I did love him."
Cynthia’s tone turned pleading.
"Bonnie, tell me about your story with my brother, okay?"
She had always been curious about how they ended up together, but every time she asked, either she or Vivian had asked her, Bonnie would never share. She always came up with excuses to brush it off.
Bonnie looked up at her with a complex expression, then finally spoke softly. She had always been unwilling to mention those past events to anyone, because she felt that the way their relationship began was dirty, shameful.
She vaguely remembered the first time she met him, that day outside her father’s wake. She was sitting alone, holding herself. She wasn’t crying; she was gathering strength in her own way. She needed to pull herself together quickly and figure out how to raise money.
A pleasant voice came from above. She looked up, and the man before her had sharp brows, bright eyes, and a handsome figure. She admitted he was good-looking. Although she usually wasn’t immune to handsome men, in this bleak situation, she couldn’t muster any feelings of admiration for him.
So, she ignored him and stood up to leave, only to embarrassingly faint into his arms. After that, everything that happened—becoming his woman and eventually marrying him—felt like a dream.
She never thought of herself as the type to make someone fall in love at first sight. In her mind, that kind of woman should have long, flowing hair and an elegant figure. But look at her—short hair and not exactly beautiful. Her figure was average, a bit plump at first, but after everything that happened with her family and Cynthia, she had lost so much weight that she was almost skin and bones.
On the outside, she appeared carefree, but deep inside, she was incredibly sensitive. Maybe it was due to her status as an illegitimate child. From a young age, she had been mocked and ridiculed, which made her develop a sensitive heart. Her cheerful demeanor was just a disguise for the weakness and insecurity she felt inside.
In front of him, she really felt inferior, especially after they arrived in Hong Kong. Look at him—well-off family, noble status, and so handsome and dazzling. Yet, he chose to marry her, a woman with no status, no looks. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
She thought he must have been crazy to do this. After all, what rich young man didn’t have some perverse tendencies? Maybe his fetish was to torment ordinary women like her, and after playing with her, he’d toss her aside.
But later, from what she observed, his every move seemed normal—except for those nights when he tortured her, finding new ways to do so. He wouldn’t stop until she begged him. So, she concluded he was perverted, a beast!
In the first two years, when he let her come back here, they rarely met. She kept her distance from him, thinking she had seen the light at the end of the tunnel. But then, something happened when she went to Thailand to find Carl Laurence.
The moment she saw him, tired and covered in dust, his face full of worry, appearing in front of her, her tears almost spilled. She admitted, she was heartbroken.
That was why she chased after him to apologize, not willing to stay with Carl Laurence, and returned with him to the country. But it was also this sense of heartache that made her more and more fearful. She never expected that he had unknowingly settled into her heart.
What she never anticipated was that he would follow her back to the mainland. Then, for more than half of each month, he would be with her, spending day and night together. Over time, she grew more and more anxious and restless.
She found herself becoming increasingly dependent on him, but he had never said that he loved her. She didn’t understand whether he loved her or was just temporarily infatuated. In fact, in these four years, she had never truly understood him. To her, he remained like an unclear mist that she could never quite see through.
Perhaps she didn’t know that for some men, actions were far more important than words. They believed that doing was more significant than saying. But sometimes, men didn’t understand women—sometimes a single warm word could make them cry.
She continued to sink deeper into this situation, resisting yet constantly being pulled in...
Of course, she never told Cynthia about the complicated feelings she had for him. She only spoke in a calm tone, briefly mentioning the general course of events between her and him over the past four years.
But even though she didn’t say everything, even though she made every effort to keep her tone calm, Cynthia, after listening to her, already had a rough understanding of her feelings. Such a vague and secretive emotion—Cynthia had experienced it herself.
She pressed her further, unwilling to let go.
"Bonnie, so... do you love him?"
"Love?"
At first, Bonnie’s expression was a bit confused, but after thinking for a moment, she spoke seriously.
"I don’t know what love is or isn’t. All I know is that when I’m with him, I feel at peace. Even if we were stranded on a deserted island together, I wouldn’t be afraid. I know he would get me out. And if we couldn’t escape, it wouldn’t matter if we died together... it’s that kind of feeling..."
