Please Let Me Go, My Contracted Ex-Husband.-Chapter 260-my heart hurts so muChapter
Bonnie searched the house for Carl but didn’t find him. As she walked out of the bedroom, frowning, she took out her phone, intending to call Carl. But when she looked up, she froze. There, sitting shirtless on her living room sofa, was James, his muscular body fully exposed before her—his long legs, firm abs, and arms with defined muscles that could be faintly seen...
Her face immediately flushed, and she stopped dialing Carl’s number, protesting angrily,
"Wh-what are you doing taking off your shirt?"
Was this man trying to seduce her all the time? This morning in his lounge, he pulled this same stunt, and now again? Did he have some kind of exhibitionism fetish or something?
James, with his legs crossed, leaned back with an innocent look, spreading his hands in a gesture of surrender,
"My shirt got completely soaked just now. Are you telling me I should keep wearing wet clothes? I could catch a cold, you know?"
Bonnie, unable to argue with him, turned away in frustration and headed for Carl’s bedroom. She originally planned to find something of Carl’s for James to wear. But when she opened the wardrobe, she was stunned to find that Carl’s clothes were completely gone.
She froze, and a sudden wave of panic hit her. Clutching her phone, her face turned pale as she rushed out and anxiously spoke,
"My brother’s gone! Why didn’t he tell me he was leaving? Did something happen to him?"
Since Carl was involved in the drug trade, it was an industry where getting caught meant death. It was a field where competition was extremely brutal and bloody. So, whenever Carl’s movements were even slightly off, she became incredibly anxious.
James was startled by her panicked expression. He quickly jumped up from the sofa and wrapped his arms around her, gently trying to calm her down,
"What’s wrong, Bonnie?"
"I just looked in my brother’s wardrobe, and all his clothes are gone. He was fine this morning—why did he suddenly leave without saying anything? Did something happen to him?"
By this point, Bonnie was so scared that her tears were almost ready to fall, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably. Carl’s actions this time were too out of the ordinary. In the past, if he had to leave, he would always notify her in advance. But this time, his phone was unreachable, always turned off. She couldn’t help but think of the worst-case scenarios.
What she didn’t know was that Carl’s departure this time meant he was letting go of her forever. He didn’t have the courage to say goodbye to her face, so he chose this silent way to escape.
From now on, he would always be her Carl, even though they weren’t related by blood, even though he loved her so much that he would never love another woman in his life.
Perhaps, before, he still held onto some hope, thinking that one day her dependence on him would turn into love. But since two years ago in Thailand, when she chose to return with that man, he knew her heart had already belonged to him.
And now, as she chose to have a child with that man, he could finally let go completely. Even though she repeatedly said she didn’t love that man, if it wasn’t for deep love, what woman would choose to have a child with a man?
If that man had been constantly hurting her, it would be one thing, but for the past four years, he hadn’t stopped investigating whether she was happy. That man truly pampered her to the extreme. He wasn’t even sure if he could treat her like that if he were living with her!
Maybe, giving up would be the only way to get closer to her. If he stopped seeing her, maybe she would remember him. Perhaps by letting go of his obsessive feelings and relating to her as a brother, she would finally become closer to him. Maybe by leaving in this way, she would always remember him in her heart.
When James heard that she was so anxious because of this, he couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. He gently pulled her to sit on the sofa, then reached for a piece of paper nearby, handing it to her. He had just found it under the ashtray on the coffee table. She had probably been too rushed earlier to notice it.
Bonnie took the piece of paper in confusion. The handwriting was Carl’s, and it read:
"Bonnie, I’ve gone back to Thailand. Please forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye. Go back to his side and love him well. In this lifetime, all I wish for is your happiness."
The only signature at the end was: "carl."
Bonnie’s tears immediately fell, hot and heavy, soaking the white paper with black ink. She wasn’t unaware of Carl’s feelings for her; it was just that her selfish choice had made her turn a blind eye. She thought that if she didn’t face certain things, they wouldn’t happen.
"Isn’t this the best way for him to leave?"
James reached out and pulled her gently into his embrace, his voice soft as he spoke. A trace of heaviness crossed his expression. He remembered the message Carl had sent him earlier that day.
"I’m leaving. I hope you will treat her well. She’s grown up being ridiculed and mocked, so her heart is inevitably a little sensitive, fragile, and cold. Her indifference is just a way to avoid getting hurt. James, if you’re not good to her, I won’t let you go as easily as I did this time. I’ll do whatever it takes to take her back!"
He had angrily replied to Carl, "Don’t worry, you won’t get another chance. You think I’ll treat her badly? What a joke! There’s probably no other man in this world who will love her like I do."
"James, my heart hurts so much..."
Bonnie, nestled in his arms, cried. She knew that with Carl’s departure, they might never meet again.
Not seeing her, perhaps Carl would live more easily. Seeing her would only add to the pain. Maybe this really was the best solution, but her heart still ached. Though she didn’t love Carl, he had been someone who had once given her warmth and care...
And because she was so heartbroken, she didn’t notice that he was still shirtless. As she cried against his chest, her small hand unknowingly touched his skin, causing a deep torment in him. The touch of her hand made his muscles tense, as if he was struggling to control himself.
