Plunder-Chapter 58 - If I Leave Will They Let Me Go
Chapter 58: Chapter 58 If I Leave, Will They Let Me Go?
Chapter 58 -58 If I Leave, Will They Let Me Go?
She was to Zhou Jin’an what Xu Mei was to An Jinhua—a high-level wage worker.
Even if one day she left, she would carry their brand upon her.
If she did well, she’d be the icing on the cake; if not, she’d smear their name.
Those who remembered past affections, like Zhou Jin’an, would lend a hand; those who didn’t care would kick someone when they were down, cutting off the last tie.
Xu Mei was smart. She’d seen many comings and goings, and Qiao En provided an explanation. Whether true or false, she did not expose it.
“Director Zhou is sentimental, don’t let him down!”
Qiao En showed a naive smile, “I’m not someone whose body is at Cao’s camp but whose heart is with Han. You can rest assured, Manager Xu, call me anytime for work, I’ll be there.”
After leaving Tianyu, Qiao En’s back was covered in cold sweat.
An Jinhua was like a wild wolf, impossible to guard against.
Dancing with wolves and plotting with tigers, Qiao En’s chances were slim.
But she knew, once a wolf had its prey in its sights, even if she fled to the ends of the earth, he wouldn’t let go.
“Secretary Qiao.”
Qiao En was hailing a cab on the roadside when Cheng Lu, dressed in a black suit, appeared.
It was then that Qiao En noticed the Maybach parked behind him, its presence haughty and aloof.
“Director Zhou wants you to come over,” Cheng Lu conveyed the order respectfully.
Qiao En didn’t really want to go. Tianyu was An Jinhua’s territory, and meeting Zhou Jin’an on his turf was dangerous.
“Assistant Cheng, I have other matters, so I won’t be going over. Please tell Director Zhou I am aware of what he has done for me and convey my thanks to him.”
A taxi pulled up in front of Qiao En. She was about to get in when Cheng Lu handed the taxi driver a hundred yuan bill and said coldly, “Go.”
The cab driver glanced at the two, mistaking them for a couple having a minor spat, took the money, and immediately drove off.
“Secretary Qiao, Director Zhou has done so much for you. Don’t you feel any gratitude? If you want to thank him, say it yourself. He’s waiting in the car; don’t make him wait too long.” The implication was clear: today, she had to go whether she wanted to or not.
To continue being obstinate was pointless.
“Fine, I’ll go with you.”
Qiao En walked toward the Maybach. Cheng Lu opened the rear passenger door for her, making a “please” gesture.
Qiao En got into the car, and Cheng Lu returned to the driver’s seat. The car quickly merged into traffic.
“Director Zhou, thank you…”
Qiao En voiced her thanks.
Cheng Lu raised the cabin partition, isolating the back into a secluded space.
The air was permeated with the scent of Zhou Jin’an—robust male hormones and the faint mint from the tips of his hair.
Surrounded by the familiar aroma, Qiao En felt somewhat uneasy, so she turned her head to look out of the window.
Her gaze landed on the bustling traffic and the dense rows of skyscrapers.
She remembered a time when she returned from a trip with Zhou Jin’an, and he suddenly wanted her in the car.
The space was cramped, and she was incredibly nervous.
It was Cheng Lu who drove that day too, and the weather was much like today.
She sat astride Zhou Jin’an’s lap; he was forceful against her, and when she wanted to cry out, Zhou Jin’an covered her mouth. So she bit his finger, and with each thrust, she bit down.
She bit him until his finger bled.
Consequently, he gave her a nickname—Thirteen—as a play on the word “dog.”
Qiao En, angry, changed all the contact names for him in her phone to ‘lousy thing.’
That was one of the few bits of fun between them.
Qiao En thought she had long forgotten, but at this moment, it surfaced.
Zhou Jin’an sat up straight, his expression stern.
He took an envelope from the pocket behind his seat and handed it to her.
“Take it.”
Qiao En accepted it, opened it, and found a card and a plane ticket inside.
“Director Zhou, what does this mean?”
The items Zhou Jin’an gave her were exactly the same as those previously given by Mrs. Zhou.
“Aren’t you wanting to study abroad? Hurry up and go,” Zhou Jin’an said, his eyes deep as he looked at Qiao En.
All this time, he had wanted to keep her close to him.
But later, Zhou Jin’an realized he was wrong.
The more he restrained her, the more she desired to flee.
So, this time, he chose to set her free.
Qiao En’s eyes were downcast, her long lashes fluttering slowly as she focused on the plane ticket for a long time.
Was there a surprise? Yes, but the surprise came too late.
Do I have regrets? Yes, I regret that he only understood her now.
Zhou Jin’an had finally let go, and Qiao En should be happy about it.
But she couldn’t bring herself to feel joy; it felt as if something was blocking her chest.
The Maybach weaved through the traffic, circling the Central Hospital again and again—once, twice, and yet another round.
By the thirteenth round, Qiao En lifted her head.
“Assistant Cheng, please stop at the main entrance.”
Cheng Lu did as instructed, pulling the car over to a stop.
Qiao En put the card and plane ticket back into the envelope and handed it back to Zhou Jin’an.
“Mr. Zhou, thank you for your kindness, but I no longer need it.”
They looked at each other, Qiao En’s eyes calm as water.
But in Zhou Jin’an’s cold eyes, there was a hint of anger.
Qiao En avoided Zhou Jin’an’s gaze as she reached out to pull the car door open.
Zhou Jin’an suddenly seized her wrist, “Qiao En, can’t you listen just once? If you don’t leave, they won’t stop coming after you.”
Qiao En smiled.
She revealed a serene, water-like smile, “Mr. Zhou, if I leave, will they really stop coming after me?”
Once a hunter has set its sights on the prey, they will chase it to the ends of the earth.
Qiao En was aware of her situation; she had no choice.
“Mr. Zhou, I still want to thank you.”
Qiao En broke free from Zhou Jin’an’s grip, pushed the car door open, and stepped out.
Her figure was slender but resolute. She walked step by step out of his sight, to a place beyond his reach.
The car door remained ajar, as Zhou Jin’an stayed in his prior pose, still watching the way Qiao En left.
With growing distance, this was the space between them.
“Director Zhou, heading back to the company?”
Cheng Lu raised the partition and turned to ask.
Zhou Jin’an did not respond.
He felt a profound sense of helplessness in his heart, a kind he had never experienced before.
Cheng Lu stepped out to close the door, and just as he was rounding to this side, An Kexin suddenly appeared.
She plunged into the Maybach and casually pulled the door shut.
“Big bro An, what brings you here?”
An Kexin feigned ignorance.
Zhou Jin’an frowned; he didn’t want to engage with An Kexin.
She waved the medicine in her hand, continuing, “Aunt Zhou has been suffering from severe headaches these past few days, staying up all night. I just went to get her some medicine. Big bro An, let’s have dinner with Aunt Zhou tonight.”
An Kexin grasped Zhou Jin’an’s forearm and shook it gently.
“I’m busy.”
Zhou Jin’an refused and smoothly withdrew his arm.
An Kexin pouted, visibly dissatisfied, but she didn’t give up and continued to play the sympathy card.
“You haven’t been back for over a week. Aunt Zhou said she misses you. Big bro An, won’t you go back and keep her company tonight? Aunt Zhou is quite pitiful by herself.”
“She’s my mother, not yours. I know what to do and don’t need you to teach me.”
Zhou Jin’an snapped.
An Kexin immediately fell silent, sitting there looking aggrieved.
Cheng Lu glanced at An Kexin through the rear-view mirror, “Miss An, Director Zhou has a meeting soon; we need to head back to the company. Where are you going?”
He hinted for An Kexin to get out.
But An Kexin pretended not to understand, “Go down Chongren Road, I’ll get off at Fairly Mansion.”
Cheng Lu’s eyes darkened; he didn’t start the engine.
A woman who can’t take a hint is truly boring!
“It’s not on the way, get out.”

Zhou Jin’an’s voice was cold.
Receiving the order, Cheng Lu immediately went to An Kexin’s side of the car, opened the door, and gestured for her to exit.
“Miss An, my apologies, but Director Zhou is in a hurry today.”
An Kexin was fuming, inflated with anger like a little pufferfish.
Yet she dared not lash out; she could only endure.
An Kexin very reluctantly got out of Zhou Jin’an’s car.
The Maybach didn’t linger for a second longer and roared off into the flow of traffic.
An Kexin stamped her foot, as a surge of malicious thoughts began to bubble up inside her.
