Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 519 - 518: Camerupt’s Uncontrolled Growth
Chapter 519 - 518: Camerupt's Uncontrolled Growth
After Butler gave the order, Camerupt's actions were a bit slow, but only by half a second.
A shockwave from Earthquake spread from Camerupt toward the two Metang, Slowking, and Skorupi.
The toxic spikes Skorupi had scattered on the ground were shaken and scattered by the earthquake. Once the shockwave passed, only a few remnants remained.
Metang, being a Steel and Psychic-type Pokémon, as well as a pseudo-legendary, had remarkable resistance due to its attributes.
But Butler clearly understood Metang's type matchups: Ground-type moves dealt double damage, as did Ghost, Fire, and Dark-types.
Metang had double resistance to Normal, Flying, Rock, Steel, Grass, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-types—eight types in total.
Not to mention, Metang was immune to Poison-type moves and had quadruple resistance to Psychic-types.
But could Butler's knowledge of Metang rival Steven's?
Steven understood Metang's weaknesses better than anyone.
"Magnet Rise!" Steven telepathically commanded the two Metang after hearing Butler's instruction.
The move Magnet Rise allows a Pokémon to levitate for a time.
Due to their weight, Metang already had reduced movement speed, so they had trained extensively with Magnet Rise. Upon receiving Steven's command, they immediately floated into the air using electromagnetism.
"Slowking, use Psychic to levitate!"
"Skorupi, climb to the top of the cave!"
Cain reacted quickly as well.
Slowking used a thin layer of psychic energy to lift itself five centimeters off the ground.
Skorupi, on the other hand, made a strong leap and used its four legs to cling to the cave ceiling, leaving its tail dangling.
Against a Quasi-Elite-level Camerupt, Skorupi had very little utility.
However, Slowking, being a Water-type, could be a key factor.
Slowking might be the key to defeating Butler's Camerupt.
"Steven, help me keep Camerupt occupied and prevent Butler from using another Pokémon. I'm preparing Slowking for an all-out attack," Cain said telepathically.
Steven's expression was serious. He knew that in this environment, Metang could only serve as distractions. Victory would depend on the quadruple damage Slowking's Water-type attacks could deal.
However, when Slowking attacked with full power, it might not be able to focus on defense simultaneously.
"Leave it to me!" Steven responded with determination.
As long as he was there, he wouldn't let anyone interfere with Cain's attack.
"All right! Slowking, do you remember the move you learned from Haunter? Use Skill Swap on Skorupi!"
"Skorupi, stay up there! Use Toxic Spikes and Venoshock to keep Camerupt busy. If you can attack Butler directly, don't hold back, but make sure you stay safe!"
Since their last return from training, Cain had been working with Slowking to learn the move Skill Swap from Haunter.
Though the Grumpig Cain had forcibly captured last time still had no clear purpose, Slowking had already mastered the use of Skill Swap.
Slowking's psychic energy emitted a strange frequency as it exchanged its ability with Skorupi's.
Now, Slowking's ability was: Sniper.
"Slowking, go all out! Use Psychic Water Gun continuously!"
Seeing Camerupt fail its attack, Butler remained unfazed. If it were that easy to hit them, they wouldn't be League prodigies.
"Camerupt, use Amnesia and then launch Flame Burst at Metang!"
But what Butler didn't know was that Cain and Steven issued their commands much faster than him.
A series of water guns shot from Slowking's mouth, wrapped in psychic energy.
It was as if Slowking had turned into a cannon tower, and the psychic water guns were its ammunition.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
With the help of psychic energy, the speed of the water guns reached its peak.
Under Butler's command, Camerupt used Amnesia, boosting its special defense.
Against three Psychic-types, boosting special defense made sense.
But just as Camerupt was about to use another move, it was bombarded by a downpour of water guns.
Butler's face hardened; he clearly hadn't heard Cain give any orders, yet Slowking's attacks were relentless.
With Camerupt's speed, there was no way it could dodge.
If evasion was impossible, it had to face the attack head-on!
Camerupt continued charging its Flame Burst.
Despite enduring Slowking's continuous attacks—and although the environment gave it an advantage—Camerupt's attack speed was slightly delayed.
However, as a Quasi-Elite-level Pokémon, Camerupt launched a blazing fireball directly at Slowking.
This hateful Pokémon kept attacking it with water, the type it despised most.
But when Butler saw Camerupt targeting Slowking, his expression abruptly changed. "Camerupt, I ordered you to attack Metang, not Slowking!"
"Ruggghhh!" Camerupt roared in frustration, largely ignoring its trainer.
It felt its trainer was becoming increasingly annoying. If it was going to attack an enemy, of course, it should target the one posing the greatest threat!
The side effects of Camerupt's forced power boost by Butler were starting to show.
But Cain and Steven began to smile.
In that case, things would be much easier.
"Slowking, use Psychic Water Gun to block that attack, then keep attacking!"
"Metang, move in front of Slowking and use your psychic power to weaken the fireball!"
Cain and Steven issued their orders simultaneously.
Slowking quickly formed a water gun and fired it.
In midair, it collided with Camerupt's Flame Burst.
Boom!
Ssssssh!
The heat evaporated the water.
The Flame Burst overpowered the water gun and continued forward.
But the two Metang were in its path.
With a double dose of psychic power, combined with the weakening caused by the water gun, they managed to stop the attack.
Meanwhile, Slowking's water guns continued striking Camerupt, occasionally triggering the Sniper ability.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The water shots hit Camerupt with strong impact.

"Damn it! Listen to my orders! Use Eruption this time and attack both Metang!" Butler yelled, his face filled with rage.
Although Camerupt was powerful and the high-temperature environment gave it an endurance advantage, it couldn't keep taking Slowking's attacks.
"Ruggghhh!" Camerupt roared, though clearly more irritated with its trainer. This time, however, it obeyed the command.
Butler saw Camerupt finally following his orders, and his expression improved slightly, though the fury inside him had yet to subside.
