Pokémon Court-Chapter 509: Water Gem
Chapter 509 - Water Gem
"The reason you lost was because you tried to use two moves simultaneously."
Terrance stood in front of Kota, offering blunt criticism without holding back.
Some time had passed since the end of the Gem Tournament.
After obtaining the Fire Gem and the Water Gem, Terrance had quietly dedicated himself to training Little Vulpix and verifying his research.
However, as the supervisor of the four students, Terrance would occasionally critique their mistakes in battles.
"I understand your sense of urgency at that moment. Coming up with a spontaneous idea during a battle is good, but you must also consider its feasibility." Terrance sighed, looking at the stumped Kota.
"A finishing move is not as simple as you imagine. Don't just focus on superficial aspects."
"Facing the danger, you had your Pokémon use a combo of Agility and Quick Attack. Did you not consider the compatibility between these two moves?"
"Compatibility?" Kota asked.
"Yes. Move stacking isn't as simple as adding one and one together. Some combo moves are merely superficial. Most Trainers' combo moves are like that, and I'm no exception—I've used quite a few flashy but ineffective combo moves myself." Terrance nodded.
"However, while these moves may not have a strengthening effect, they can provide a certain level of coordination and deception. But what you did was just reckless..." Terrance pressed his forehead with his fingers.
"The reason your Pokémon froze during battle was due to your incorrect command. Do you know the principle behind Agility and Quick Attack?"
"Increasing speed..." Kota replied.
"That's correct, but that's only the surface-level effect, not the actual principle. Come in." As he spoke, Terrance looked toward the door. Ever since he had learned the meditation method, his perception had improved significantly.
Bang.
The door was pushed open, and the three students who had been eavesdropping walked in, somewhat embarrassed.
Without paying them much attention, Terrance continued, "Agility is classified as a Psychic-type move. Its core principle is actually a special form of mental suggestion—it temporarily hypnotizes the body, allowing it to exceed its limits for a short time. During this process, the Pokémon will feel incredibly light, an effect stemming from the heightened awareness of surpassing its own limits."
Then, Terrance stood up. "As for Quick Attack, whether used to evade or as an offensive technique, it can significantly boost speed. However, its essence lies in mobilizing the entire body's strength in an instant, utilizing one's true capabilities to execute the move."
"One is a 'borrowed' power, while the other is 'real' power. One amplifies speed through a state of 'relaxation,' while the other does so through an 'explosive burst.' Their fundamental principles are worlds apart. Now, do you still think Agility can stack with Quick Attack?" Terrance smiled.
In this regard, he had also once faced setbacks. At that time, Terrance had tried every possible way to enhance the lethality of Arcanine's moves. It could be said that he looked through a lot of materials and did a lot of studying.
"This..." Kota fell into thought.
"Alright, you've all heard it. If I remember correctly, you don't have many battle opportunities left, right?"
"Make good use of your time and keep pushing forward." Passing by the three students, Terrance patted Lirica's shoulder and gave the group a thumbs-up. "I'm heading out for a bit."
...
At a public training ground in the Fight Area.
Castform hovered in front of Terrance, while Ice Vulpix stood on the ground, both waiting for his command.
"Now that Altaria has Mega Evolution, as long as it properly digests this power and comprehends this higher state, it'll be fine in the short term..."
"Mismagius is on Nightmare Island. Even without my direct training, the environment there alone will allow it to grow at an astonishing rate."
"Gallade has recently learned Calm Mind, giving it untapped potential."
"Beautifly... Arcanine... So that means my main focus now will be these two..."
Terrance silently contemplated.
"Ice Vulpix was born not long ago, so there's no need to be too demanding of its strength. Real training should be planned after it evolves into Ninetales. For now, it's just laying the foundation."
"As for Castform... While its training method was initially a challenge, compared to Beautifly and Arcanine, its training path is already set!"
"Castform!" Terrance called.
Castform turned to look at him.
"Right now, training your Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Hail, and Sandstorm moves has been getting more and more difficult, hasn't it?" Terrance asked.
Castform nodded.
"It's not that you lack the ability to improve on your own. You've only just mastered the Sandstorm move, and while you're very skilled with Rain Dance, your Hail and Sunny Day are clearly lagging behind. Initially, I planned to have you continue comprehending these moves on your own for a while. However, now that I have the Water Gem and Fire Gem, I've decided to change my approach." Terrance took out two gems.
Fire Gem: A Fire-type gem. When held by a Pokémon, the power of Fire-type moves is enhanced once by the Fire energy stored within the gem.
The same principle applies to the Water Gem.
Casually, Terrance took out the Mystic Water pendant and dangled it in his hand, "After my research over the past few days, I've discovered that there is indeed a fascinating difference between the two items."
As Terrance had known, Mystic Water provides a subtle, continuous boost, whereas the Water Gem offers a one-time, absorbable boost.
"The interesting part is..." Terrance smiled. "Do you remember our initial plan? We aimed to explore the connection between the Water Gem and Mystic Water to determine your future path to becoming stronger."
Castform nodded, while Ice Vulpix, confused, absentmindedly scratched circles into the ground with its paw.
"Castform, here—catch." Terrance handed over the Water Gem.
"Borrow its power and unleash Hydro Pump at full force toward the field. Hmm... just a normal Hydro Pump will do."
Castform confirmed the instructions, then accepted the Water Gem, curiously examining it. This was its first time directly touching the gem since Terrance had obtained it.
As soon as it touched the Water Gem, Castform felt an amiable energy—one that was more intense than that of the Mystic Water, yet also more loose.
If the energy from the Water Gem felt loose, easily extractable for use, then the energy from Mystic Water resembled a solid mass, emitting a completely different kind of fluctuations. These fluctuations helped Castform refine its control over water elements, enhancing its affinity and mastery of water energy at a more technical level.
"Fwoosh!!!"
Hovering in the air, Castform fired a powerful Hydro Pump at the field, the water stream surging violently!
With a loud "BOOM!!", the Hydro Pump struck the ground, and the immense recoil sent water droplets splashing in all directions!
The next moment, Terrance extended his hand, letting the droplets land on his palm. Slowly, he looked up at the sky, now filled with scattered water droplets.
"Is it... raining?"
