Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect-Chapter 174: Wobbuffet MVP
Chapter 174 - Wobbuffet MVP
ust as the attack was about to connect, Dusknoir gritted its teeth, suppressing the urge to lash out at Wobbuffet. Instead, it turned sharply, diving toward the spirit world to escape.
But Gardevoir wasn't about to let it slip away so easily. With a graceful Teleport, it positioned itself in Dusknoir's path and sent a blinding orb of light hurtling toward it. The orb detonated in an explosion of brilliance.
The light illuminated the entire Bell Tower like a second sun. Yet, there wasn't just one orb—there were two. One was a shimmering Moonblast, and the other, far brighter, was the result of Flash. The Flash orb had been teleported directly in front of Dusknoir.
The intensity of the light forced a startled "Whew!" from the group as Dusknoir let out a low, agonized rumble. Its massive, single eye blinked frantically, blinded by the overwhelming glare. On the bright side (for its opponents), the massive Pokemon's bulk shielded the team behind it from the dazzling assault.
Blinded and disoriented, Dusknoir's defenses crumbled. The towering Ghost-type became the perfect target.
Tyranitar seized the opportunity, lunging forward with a fearsome growl. Its jaws clamped around Dusknoir's neck with a sickening crunch, while Garchomp followed up with a devastating headbutt to its chest.
Greninja darted in from the shadows, its twin dark blades slashing into Dusknoir's flanks with surgical precision. Each strike sliced effortlessly, the Ghost-type's thick defense offering little resistance.
Blaziken leaped high into the air, flames erupting around its foot as it executed a perfectly-timed Blaze Kick that collided with Dusknoir's back. The fire flared violently on impact, sending embers scattering.
Hovering serenely above the chaos, Gardevoir unleashed another Moonblast to seal the deal, her movements as graceful as a ballet dancer's.
And Wobbuffet? It stood off to the side, clapping gleefully with childlike enthusiasm. "Sothatsei!" it cheered, basking in the glow of its teammates' triumph.
Dusknoir twitched. If looks could kill, Wobbuffet would've been toast. But for now, the Ghost-type could do nothing but endure the relentless onslaught. Finally, with a groaning wail, the mighty Dusknoir collapsed to the floor with a deafening crash.
[Defeated Dusknoir LV70. Blaziken gained 21,157 experience points.]
[The Ghost aura condenses into an item: Leftovers (reward).]
[Tip: The Ghost aura on the seventh floor seems lighter. You can now proceed to the eighth floor.]
John's grin widened as he pulled a Pokeball from his belt. With seven Dojo Badges under his belt—even if one was from Johto—he could now command Pokemon up to LV80. This Dusknoir would make a solid addition to his team.
The Pokeball hit its mark, sucking the unconscious Dusknoir inside with a flash of red light. The ball wobbled violently on the ground, its red light blinking as the Ghost-type struggled. After a tense moment, the familiar ding echoed through the chamber.
"Gotcha!" John exclaimed, picking up the Pokeball and holding it up to inspect his latest catch.
[Dusknoir (Ghost-Type) (Boss)]
[Level: 70}
[Ability: Pressure – causes opponents to lose 1 additional PP when using moves.]
[IVs: HP (25), Attack (31), Special Attack (24), Defense (31), Special Defense (31), Speed (13)]
[Moves: Shadow Punch, Gravity, Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Identify, Shadow Sneak, Phantom Force, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Will-O-Wisp, Payback, Mean Look, Curse, Shadow Ball, Hex, Destiny Bond, Future Sight]
[Held Item: Thunder Spell Tag]
John studied the stats with an approving nod. It didn't have any of the unusual suffixes, like "Imprison" or "Ancient," that his Haunter did. Weird. Could there be something unique about Haunter? Regardless, Dusknoir was a powerhouse. With perfect IVs in Attack, Defense, and Special Defense, it was strong enough to hold its own on his team—at least until Haunter evolved and outclassed it.

For now, Dusknoir would serve as the team's Ghost-type specialist. At LV70, it was already at the level of most Gym Leaders' ace Pokemon. As a boss Pokemon, it would be even tougher.
Setting the Pokeball aside, John turned his attention to the item Dusknoir had been holding. Carefully, he removed the Thunder Spell Tag from the Pokeball.
[Thunder Spell Tag: Boosts Ghost-type moves by 40%. Adds bonus damage to Ghost-type moves and 10% chance to paralyze opponents.]
"Perfect for Haunter," John muttered with a grin. Once purified, the Spell Tag would fully unleash Haunter's potential. But that wasn't the only treasure he'd earned today. Reaching into his bag, John retrieved the other reward from the battle: the rare Leftovers.
[Powerful Leftovers: Restores 30% of HP per turn.]
John couldn't suppress a laugh. "It's like having a Super Potion every single turn! This is insane."
His gaze shifted to Wobbuffet, standing nearby with its ever-present grin. With a base HP stat of 190, Wobbuffet was the obvious candidate for the powerful item.
"Wobbuffet, this one's for you," John said, handing over the Leftovers.
"Wobbuffet!" Wobbuffet cheered, puffing out its chest and striking a confident pose. The sight was so ridiculous that John burst out laughing.
