Pokemon Trainer Vicky-Chapter 139
“I Glorious and Beautiful Kunoichi Nike! Protector of the Moon! Demand a battle!” I called out, half surprising Janine as I leapt out of the hidden door and landed in a ninja crouch.
“Wha? Vic-”
“Glorious and Beautiful Kunoichi Nike! Protector of the Moon!” I interrupted her, pulling out a premier ball and holding it forward. “And I demand a battle against the Gym Leader!”
Janine was just looking at me half surprised before she started snickering, but if the was the kid that was opposite her that I’d just interrupted. Janine had finished a battle and had been handing him his gym badge when I leapt out.
“Who the heck is this?”
“Nike-”
“Glorious and Beautiful Kunoichi Nike! Protector of the Moon!” I repeated myself for the third time, and Janine broke her cool ninja character and started holding back giggles at my repeated title.
“Is this normal?”
“Ninja’s often do battle with each other.” Janine said, barely holding back her laughter.
“Okay?”
“Hmm. You have succeeded in defeating me, and claiming a Soul Badge, but perhaps you should stay and watch? Nike- Yes I heard the title. I’m not saying all of it.” She interrupted before I could repeat myself.
I was just grinning behind the mask. How do you annoy Ninjas? You take your roleplay too far. It’s hilarious.
Walking through the Fuchsia gym had been a pain. They changed the traps again, but everyone had agreed to keep it from Janine since I was here to challenge her and mess with her at the same time.
Of course the fact it was Janine and not Koga spoke heavily of what was going on.
Koga was definitely going to be in the Elite Four.
Probably!
“Sure, I’ll watch.” He offered a bit confused, but well, pokemon trainers loved watching pokemon battles almost as much as they liked battling!
I took my position and Janine spoke.
“Challenger. Hold on a second I need to get my team ready to face you.”
“Hold on. I’m not facing you with my normal team. We’re doing some training to see where we are at… A fourth or fifth badge should be more than enough.” I offered and Janine stilled and nodded.
“Very well.” She agreed and soon came back with five pokeballs on her hip compared to my six.
I grinned, and we ninja posed in time before throwing out our pokemon.
“Jangmo-o! Show this Ninja the power of a Samurai!”
“What? Hey, that’s cheating!” Janine pouted at me, and I just grinned as her Venomoth took form. Just like her father.
“Battle! Begin!” A ninja voice called out from above causing the trainer watching us to jump, as he’d been distracted trying to pull out his Pokedex to find out information on Jangmo-o.
“Dragon Pulse!”
“Double Team!” Janine called and I grinned as the energy beam raced through one of the after images Venomoth was making, but Jangmo-o wasn’t done, the beam curved around behind Venomoth, and Janine gasped.
“Dodge!”
Unfortunately she was in time, and the beam whiffed harmlessly past Venomoth as it managed to evade.
“Alright, keep the pressure on! Let’s go Jangmo-o!” I called out and he charged forward, already gathering energy for his next attack.
—--
“Nidorina wins!” The ninja voice from above calls out and then continues. Much to my amusement. “Glorious and Beautiful Kunoichi Nike! Protector of the Moon! Is out of pokemon! Gym Leader Janine wins!”
“Heh!” I just laughed at getting them to say the whole thing.
“What were all those pokemon!?” The trainer watching demanded as the battle finally ended, he’d gone through his pokedex and hadn’t found any of my team besides Dratini.
“The world is much wider than your pokedex will show young trainer! Train hard, explore the corners of the world, go beyond what you have seen and you will find more pokemon than you can imagine!” I told the boy who looked fairly impressed, but then his face flattened.
“But you lost.”
“I did!”
“They aren’t very strong.”
“My Pokemon are immensely strong! So strong that they take much longer to grow! To face my team in a year will end up with you crying tears of blood at your weakness!” I called out ninja posing and he narrowed his eyes like he didn’t believe me.
“Thank you for the battle, and I hope watching taught you something as well, Ito. You earned my badge today, but there are further heights to keep training for.”
“I will! And I won’t lose like her! Bye!” He called out running off and I pouted.
“That was rude.”
“He’s young, and you did lose.”
“Shall we rematch with our best teams?”
“I wouldn’t mind it.” She offered and our eyes met, a definite challenge, but I shook it off.
“Rain check? I wouldn’t mind doing some training with you if you want though.” I explained pulling down my ninja mask now that Nike was no longer needed.
“Gasp! It’s Victoria Ferrous!” Janine called out in faux shock, and I just shook a fist at her. Going overboard on the roleplay is what I did to make fun of ninjas! She shouldn’t just use it against me! “It was a strange battle Vicky. Is there a reason for coming to me?”
“Mhmm. My baby team is preparing for intensive training. I’ve been having them face normal trainers, but I remembered you were right here, and frankly, the Fuschia Gym is one of the strongest in Kanto. I wanted them to face an evasion focused trainer. It’s hard to deal with.”
“I see! Preparing for the future is important. I hope the battle went well?”
“Perfectly. You defeated my team after all.” Well other than Gible anyways. She was just not ready yet.
Actually.
“You wouldn’t happen to want one more battle would you? I have a pokemon, but she’s very young, and I’m getting her used to battles.”
“Hmm. I do have a young Nidoran that is showing signs of wishing to battle.”
“Want to go one more?”
“I would.” She agreed happily and soon she returned with one more pokeball, and we both released. Both of us were smiling as our pokemon appeared on the field.
“Gib?” Gible looked around, us being inside meant she didn’t see the pond out back thankfully, but she wasn’t very focused unlike the Nidoran♀ The little Nidoran looked around instantly realized what was going on, no doubt having watched plenty of battles and started scratching her paws against the floor and readying to charge.
“Hold on Nidoran. But get ready.”
“Gible! Prepare for battle okay?” I called out and she just looked over and noticed me.
“Gib.” She called out and waddled over to me walking up and grabbing at my pants as she just sort of settled into place.
“Cute.”
“I know right!?” I said to Janine as I bent down and petted Gible who was just kinda idling. In her lane. All was at peace.
She was so much better than she had been when I first picked her up, but she was still… Quirky.
Let’s go with that.
“Do you want to battle Gible? Look?” I pointed and she looked at my hand for a while before slowly her eyes shifted to where I was pointing.
Nidoran was getting impatient I could tell as it was huffing and scratching at the floor more, but Janine seemed to take it all in with a look.
Probably why the Pokemon was only being considered. It seemed overly aggressive which wasn’t always a good thing.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
Growlithe had been like that after all. Then again an aggressive puppy is way less of a concern than an aggressive massive dog…
I shook it off. “Gible we’re gonna battle okay?”
“Gib.”
“Let’s try sticking to Bite instead of Dragon Rage okay?”
“Gib.”
“So just go out there and when I call out, use your move.”
“Gib.”
“I have no idea if you understand me at all sometimes.” I told her, patting her on the head and scratching her fin. Which is about when the Nidoran decided she’d had enough.
“Niii!” She called out loud enough even Gible looked over and then she charged.
“Nidoran! No! We aren’t battling yet.” Janine called out, but the pokemon charged forward, her little horn sticking out and just before I was about to pick up Gible and make a run for it. She stopped. Skidding all four feet she slid the last bit until her horn was just about to hit us, and then barked out a challenge.
Huh.
“Gib.”
“Nidoran! Nid! Nido!”
“Gib.”
I just blinked at the two were… Talking? Maybe. Gible might just be gibbing for all I know. But Nidoran was getting angry and then she turned to me.
“Nid! Nido Ni!” She growled and bared her horn, and I was half way to start laughing at the cute little challenge when suddenly Nidoran wasn’t facing me, but was covered in Gible.
“Niiiiii!” She shrieked as Gible bit down and soon the two were sliding across the floor as Nidoran tried to escape and Gible just bit down.
What? Wait, was… She defending me?
I kinda hope she was, cause that’d be super adorable.
Also.
“Gible! Good job let go now!” I called out, and a moment later to my relief Nidoran ran back across the field towards Janine crying at her.
Aww…
I walked over and picked Gible up, noticing she was a bit more tense than normal. She’d definitely just had a battle rush. Did Gible have adrenaline? I’d have to ask Professor Cerise.
“That wasn’t quite what I had in mind.” Janine said, as she walked over Nidoran in her arms acting like a little baby.
But that was okay cause Gible was being my little baby too.
Janine and I shared a look and we both grinned.
Pokemon were cute!
“Is she okay?”
“She’ll be fine. Your Gible?”
“She’s fine, just a little tense.” I explained and Janine nodded as she finished walking over and settled in seiza style beside me. The two pokemon were side eyeing each other, although I wasn’t sure if that was just Gible being Gible or not.
“Nid! Nido.” Nidoran grumbled at Gible who just kept resting in my arms, mouth open. That only seemed to make Nidoran even angrier. “Nido! Niii!”
“Gib.”
I snerked at the flinch that Nidoran gave at Gible's little gib. I don’t think she was even saying anything, and it probably confused Nidoran.
“Nido!”
“I think she still wants to battle.”
“Sounds like it… Gible? Do you want to battle?” I asked her, then waited patiently, slowly her eyes shifted to me. She had been looking at Nidoran in fact, then she wiggled a bit, and so I set her down.
Gible was in fact ready for battle!
“Ni!” Nidoran demanded at Janine, but she just sent her a look until Nidoran wilted, “Nido?”
“Yes you can battle, If you listen to my commands. I am not pleased with your performance so far.”
“Niiii.” She whined, but Janine rose up and walked a bit away before placing her on the floor.
“Prepare yourself for my commands, Nidoran!”
“Ni!”
“Gible! We’re gonna battle, just do your best! I know you can do it!” I called in turn, and then it was quiet. And we both nodded .
“Begin!”
“Gible! Go for a Bite!”
“Nidoran, Poison Sting, come in from the side! Avoid the bite!”
Nidoran surged forward, leaving Gible just kinda standing there, but as she drew closer, Gible's eyes shifted.
“Bite into the attack!” I called out, and just in time as Nidoran juked to the side, and then charged forward, only to be met with… An actual attack!
Gible usually just.. Bit things, which was fine, but this time energy actually formed! Dark fangs appeared around her when she clamped down and it definitely worked as the bit down on Nidoran's horn as she charged.
The two struggled against each other, both pokemon having an advantage. Nidoran had all four legs on the floor struggling forward, while Gible only had two, but Gible had hands she was using to hold Nidoran as well.
The two struggled for a short time, the attacks, I noticed still going Janine and I both just watching on before it happened.
“Gib.”
“Niiii.”
Both pokemon slumped. Gible rolling entirely backwards, as I realized she’d been getting hit with Poison Sting, while Nidoran no doubt was just tanking a Bite attack…
Oh my Arceus it was so cute!
The two babies had a little baby rumble! Eeeeee!
I hurried over as Janine did the same, quickly pulling a potion out and spraying a bit on Gible only noticing a bit of purple around her eyes as she opened them.
“Trade?” Janine offered, holding out an Antidote, and I passed her the potion bottle, and sprayed it in Gibles mouth as Janine started spraying Nidoran.
“What a good battle!” I told Gible who blinked up at me, as the poison and damage cleared. “Who is such a good girl! You are!” I told her as I lifted her up and down a bit.
“Gib.”
“That’s right Gible Gable! Are you hungry? Want a snack?” I asked her, settling her back in my lap as I pulled some berry slices from my bag, the little plastic container opened up and I offered them to Gible.
She looked them over for a minute and reached out.
“Gib.” She seemed quite happy to grab the berry slices in her little claw and stuff them into her mouth.
Aaah! Gible eating was so cute!
“Ni?”
“I do not have any berries on my Nidoran. Shall we go get a snack as well?”
“I have enough to share.” I told Janine as Nidoran had made a little plaintive noise at seeing the snack.
Gible wiggled a bit as I adjusted myself but I offered the container to Nidoran as well, and while there was some definite tension between the two, as Gible didn’t seem to like Nidoran getting close to her food…
In the end, Nidoran bent in and snatched up a slice under Gible's eye, and Gible relaxed as she just reached in and went back to snacking.
“You were correct earlier Vicky. We should do this more often.”
“Right? I’m in Fuchsia all the time to see my friends, so we should meet up more… And you can of course tell me if your dad is in the Elite Four.”
“I can not confirm or deny anything regarding my fathers current work. All I am allowed to say is he is in isolated training.” Janine offered, but yeah he was totally in the Elite Four now.
Wonder when that was going to be announced.
“Do you wish to battle again?”
“Already?”
“Yes, both pokemon wish to battle again, you can see it in their eyes.” Janine offered, and I looked at Gible… Who besides eating her snacky slices was looking at Nidoran, who was also glaring at Gible when she wasn’t chowing down.
“Sure. Another battle afterwards with them sounds perfect.”
—---
“So we got some leads?” I asked, talking to Ren, at Professor Cerises’s lab.
“We do. Honestly… You might be right.” He admitted, as he handed me a stack of paper. “With the new data coming in, we got four new Espeon, and two new Umbreon, and all of them evolved during the day or night. Plus the older data, we’ve got ten additional updates on other trainers with the pokemon, and all of them adhere to the day night cycle.”
“I told you.”
“Yes you did.” Professor Cerise called out surprising us both as he entered the lab, but he sent me a smile. “But we still needed proof.”
“Yeah yeah, I know. But we are starting to get it right?”
“Starting yes. But your hypothesis is holding water. I never would have considered time of day to be a factor in evolution.”
“Environmental factors are important to a lot of evolutions. And day or night is an impact… Alolan Rattata is a dark type, it only evolves at night. Riolu only evolves during the day, and it’s a friendship evolution as well. Gligar from Johto, is a night evolution I’m pretty sure.”
“We have reports of Gliscor, but only if it is carrying a Razor Fang.”
“Only at night.” I added to Professor Cerises’s comment, and he actually started considering it.
“Gligar is a nocturnal Pokemon, them evolving at night wouldn’t be that unusual.”
“And most pokemon are… What’s the day time version of Nocturnal?”
“Diurnal.” Ren offered as Professor was still thinking.
“Right. Most pokemon are diurnal, so we wouldn’t even notice. If a Grass type only evolves during the day for the most part we wouldn’t even notice.” I added, Fomantis was like that. And it’s likely even Ivy wouldn’t ever know that if I didn’t tell her.
“Which is why gathering data is so very important.” Cerise said, seemingly coming back to himself. He grinned and reached out like he was about to fluff my hair but halted seemingly realizing and instead patted my shoulder. “Your data with the Eevee is already extremely valuable, you had a good idea on how to set it up. Unfortunately… We’re about through the funds you put up for the information.”
“Yeah I’ll need to add more, or stop the research drive. Is it enough?”
“As tempting as it is to keep paying for more data. It’s enough to get us to start looking. Science is never about having all the data at your fingertips Vicky, it’s about slowly gathering the data together.” He explained, and I just nodded.
I’d put up a good amount of cash for the information pay outs, and let Ren and Chrysa handle actually paying the money out through the lab, but it was running through quick. I was paying multiple people for the same information after all. But that was just part of the trick. Slowly getting enough evidence to support the hypothesis, even if I already knew.
The biggest issue for me, is that while I’ve gotten some Umbreon and Espeon data, nothing on Sylveon yet.
“I guess I should go around and edit the posters then?”
“You aren’t going to take them down?”
“I still know the information is correct.” I told Ren. “So if even one more person can use the information to evolve their Eevee, it’s worth keeping up.”
“Just be careful kid. False pokemon data can cause someone a lot of trouble.”
“It’s not false.”
“It is until you have the evidence to prove it’s true.” Cerise explained and I frowned at the man.
“That’s dumb.”
“That’s the danger of offering answers before you have proof. But I do still have the data entry for everything if you want to help us add it in?”
“Sure professor. I can do that. This computer?”
“That’ll work.” Ren offered, handing me the papers, and I quickly pulled up the lab's tools and started adding in more data for Eevee and its evolutions. Cerise was trying to gather data on every evolution in Kanto. For every pokemon. Of course the data was still limited. There was no electronic pokedex yet to create easy data access.
But every bit still helped.
