Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 101: The Monkeys Reappear
Riley Perry: "I’ve never been here before, but I saw it from the helicopter."
This river wasn’t even marked on the map. You could really see how cunning the production team was.
Victoria Koenig was so impressed he could have kowtowed. All he’d done on the helicopter was panic; how could he have paid any attention to the terrain below?
After walking around the riverbank, Riley Perry gestured for Victoria Koenig to take out the pot and wash it in the river. "You rest for a bit. We’ll find a suitable place to camp nearby tonight."
Victoria Koenig: "There aren’t any large predators here, are there? What if there are wild boars or wolves or something... Maybe we should just leave."
After washing the pot, Riley Perry cupped some river water and splashed her face. "Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, I definitely won’t let a wolf drag you away."
The mountains were high and the forests were dense; no one could guarantee there weren’t large predators in these mountains. But she wasn’t afraid.
Hearing this, Victoria Koenig grew even more frightened. "So there really are?! Ria, don’t scare me. I’m a coward. I’m scared to death of even slightly bigger dogs."
Riley Perry was speechless. ’You’re a male idol. Is it really a good idea to make yourself sound so pathetic in a live broadcast?’
"Don’t worry. There’s a team of people following us for protection. If something really happens, they’ll guarantee our personal safety."
The production team’s security arrangements were decent. The guards looked like they were retired from the military, following them from a distance just to handle any unexpected situations. If it weren’t for her powerful Divine Sense, she wouldn’t have even noticed them.
Victoria Koenig let out a huge sigh of relief. "Oh, good, good. I didn’t expect the production team to be so reliable. That’s a relief."
"Huh? Wait a minute. Ria, how did you know that?"
"My hearing is pretty good."
Victoria Koenig recalled how Ria had been able to hear a chicken crowing when they first arrived on the mountain, so he believed her.
"You sit here for a bit. I’m going to go upstream to see if I can catch a couple of fish. We can make soup tonight."
Victoria Koenig said, "Then I’ll go look for the flag. Ria, where do you think it is?"
In truth, Riley Perry could have found the flag in an instant with her Divine Sense. However, she had to give Victoria Koenig a sense of participation. So, she simply took out the map and looked at it again. The map was incredibly crude and had deliberately hidden certain key landmarks, so she could only estimate a general location. "You go search in the woods over here. If you really can’t find it, just come back. We’re not in a hurry anyway. We can always look for it tomorrow when it’s light out."
Victoria Koenig took his copy of the map and headed into the woods, while Riley Perry walked upstream along the river. She didn’t go far before she found a deep pool. There were fish in the river, but they weren’t big—mostly small, palm-sized ones. Still, fish were fish. Time to catch some.
She took off her shoes and rolled up her pant legs, revealing her fair, slender calves. She tilted her head slightly, gazing at the reeds by the riverbank. The afternoon sun shone down on her, bathing her in a golden light.
The bullet comments immediately erupted with praise. [She’s so beautiful! Even her toes are prettier than mine!]
[Miss, don’t be so strict about gender. Give a girl a chance!]
[I want long legs like Riley Perry’s. I’m tired of even saying how envious and jealous I am!]
[...Legs for days.]
[A bunch of pervs! Watch what you say, or the stream might get banned.]
Walking into the river, Riley Perry chose a spot with plenty of reeds and stood still. The water came just up to her knees, and then she didn’t move.
[LMAO, she’s not actually going to try and catch fish with her bare hands, is she?]
[So awkward. It’s going to be so embarrassing if she can’t catch a single one.]
About three minutes passed, and Riley Perry remained in the same position. A bullet comment popped up: [Attention, attention, this is not a still image. This is not a still image.]
The cameraman was getting anxious too. He really wanted to give Riley Perry a hint. ’Even if you just sharpened a stick, a blind cat can still catch a dead mouse. You could spear at least one fish, right?’
Riley Perry figured she’d put on a show for long enough. Only then did she release a sliver of Spiritual Power into the water.
Soon, there was a commotion in the river. A school of fish and shrimp darted toward Riley Perry as if fleeing for their lives. She reached into the water, and with a gentle scoop, a crucian carp weighing about half a pound was pulled out. She casually tossed it onto the bank, where it began to flop around with a loud THWACK THWACK. Without even looking, Riley Perry bent down, reached into the water, and scooped again. Another hand-sized whitefish was thrown onto the bank...
The only thing left in the bullet comments was: [Holy shit!]
[Same here, holy shit!]
[Holy shit +10086!]
[Catching fish with her bare hands! Literally!]
[Someone please tell me this isn’t real!]
After catching seventeen or eighteen fish in a row, Riley Perry stopped. It was enough to eat, and she had no way to preserve the rest.
Back on the bank, Riley Perry took out her dagger, gutted the fish, strung them together with a blade of grass, and started walking back. Just then, Victoria Koenig’s panicked shout came from downstream. "Help me, Ria! Ahh! Get lost, you stupid monkeys!"
Riley Perry grabbed her things and ran quickly in the direction of the voice. By the time she arrived, Victoria Koenig’s hair was a bird’s nest and his clothes were in disarray. Most importantly, he was surrounded by a circle of monkeys.
The monkeys were constantly trying to attack him, chittering and screeching noisily. They had managed to get ahold of their pot, their lunchbox, and Victoria Koenig’s backpack. The mischievous monkey holding the backpack was about to unzip it and take out its contents.
When Victoria Koenig saw Riley Perry, it was like seeing his savior. "Ria, these monkeys have no martial ethics! Not only are they stealing my stuff, but they’re also pawing at me!"
Riley Perry: ...The way he complained made her speechless.
She walked over to the monkeys and held out her hand, releasing a tiny thread of Spiritual Power that circulated through the first one. The monkey, which had been baring its teeth to attack her, instantly calmed down. An expression of pure bliss even appeared on its face.
Immediately, two more monkeys shuffled closer. Riley Perry gave them a wisp of Spiritual Power as well. After that, the three monkeys refused to leave, crowding around her and acting like freeloaders.
In the end, Riley Perry had to "pet" all dozen or so of the monkeys. Only then did they all settle down, but none of them were willing to leave.
Riley Perry looked at the assembled monkeys and commanded, "It’s wrong to take other people’s things. Hurry up and give back what you stole."
The monkeys that had stolen the items seemed to actually understand Riley Perry’s words, immediately placing the things in their hands at Victoria Koenig’s feet.
The viewers in the livestream chat: ...
Victoria Koenig, at the scene: ...
[So it turns out even monkeys love a pretty face!]
[Wait, does Riley Perry have some kind of magic power? Even the monkeys listen to her?]
[Isn’t the key point that these monkeys can understand what Riley Perry is saying?]
[I seriously suspect these are the same monkeys that made Old Ford run around naked!]
[You know, with the same robbery tactics, it really does seem likely!]
[Oho, same script, different fate. They both ran into monkeys, but Victoria Koenig is way luckier than Old Ford.]
[This just proves the importance of good looks! She’s so beautiful she can even charm monkeys into behaving!]
