Possessed No More: The True Star Returns to Claim Her Throne-Chapter 49: Getting Along
"You regret it?" Cole Sinclair’s expression changed in a flash, turning as dark and cold as ink. He’d already placed a hand on Riley Perry’s throat, as if he would snap her neck the moment her answer displeased him.
As if completely unaware that her life was in his hands, Riley Perry suddenly gave Cole Sinclair a seductive smile. She gently rubbed her thigh against his, her hand tracing a path down his chest. "Not at all. It’s your own fault for being so incredible."
Cole Sinclair desperately wanted to ask why, if she had no regrets, she didn’t want to sign a longer contract with him. But Riley Perry’s actions had already made it impossible for him to think.
Half an hour later, a knock came at the door. Riley Perry shoved the man off her. "Go get the door. The waiter’s here with our food."
Cole Sinclair was speechless. ’At a time like this, you’re actually telling me to stop?’
As he stared in a daze, another kick landed on his leg. "Hurry up! Don’t you care about your stomach?"
Only then did it sink in that she had just left him high and dry. He mentally condemned her for this complete disregard for his little brother’s well-being, but it was no use.
After washing his hands in the bathroom and waiting for his body to calm down, he put on a bathrobe and went to open the door.
It wasn’t a waiter outside the door, but Spencer Sinclair.
"Sir."
Cole Sinclair took the food cart with a deadpan expression and slammed the door shut.
He set the food on the table and ate the simple dinner at a leisurely pace. It wasn’t a feast, but for some reason, it warmed his heart. Only then did he return to the bedroom.
The woman on the bed had her back to him, her head buried in a soft pillow. Her long hair fanned out across the sheets like a delicate, silken web.
He eased onto the bed and had just pulled the covers over himself when Riley Perry rolled into his arms. Her hand came to rest on his stomach, patting it gently. "It’s sticking out. Looks like you ate your fill."
"You weren’t asleep?"
"I was waiting for you. We haven’t seen each other in so long, I wanted to talk."
Cole Sinclair took her injured wrist and checked it, breathing a sigh of relief when he confirmed it hadn’t gotten wet.
"I thought you were going to continue what we were doing."
"You’re the only one who thinks about that stuff all day, you perv."
She reached out with her uninjured hand, taking hold of Cole Sinclair’s cool, slender fingers and lacing them with her own.
Cole Sinclair felt completely wronged. ’I’m almost thirty, and I’ve only been with her a handful of times. And because she’s so delicate, I have to hold back and can’t go all out.’
But seeing her slender, pale fingers laced with his, he found himself thinking that this was pretty nice too. "Is it fun on set?"
After her accident, Riley Perry had spent most of the day sleeping when she wasn’t eating, so she wasn’t the least bit tired now. The moment Cole Sinclair asked, she couldn’t help but launch into a rant. "Fun? It’s been exhausting me to death!
It was fine on *Starfire*, but the *Immortal Demon Tribulation* set is just nonstop work. Everyone else finished filming their parts, so I’m the only one left doing reshoots. I’m in every single scene, and it’s so, so tiring. Every day when I get back to the hotel and collapse on the bed, I just think, ’I wish you were here with me.’"
Cole Sinclair turned onto his side and smoothed her long, dark hair with his free hand. "You really thought about me?"
Riley Perry’s lovely, almond-shaped eyes blinked. Then, with a denial that only made her more transparent, she shook her head vigorously. "Nope, you heard wrong! I wouldn’t waste my time thinking about you!"
Cole Sinclair pulled her into his arms, hugging her tight. "Liar."
Riley Perry’s lips were captured once more. Their breaths mingled as their lips and tongues intertwined. The first night they were together, Cole Sinclair’s kisses had been clumsy and fierce, as if he wanted to devour her whole. But this time, he kissed her with an earnest, all-consuming gentleness, creating the illusion that he was kissing his most precious treasure.
After a long moment, they finally broke apart. In the dim glow of the bedside lamp, Riley Perry could see the desire rising in his eyes. Yet, he didn’t press further. He just gazed at her with a burning intensity before stretching out flat on the bed. He slid one arm under her neck, cradling her gently. ’In truth, I’ve missed her too.
Even when he was swamped with work, he would think of her in his rare moments of downtime. He’d think of her delicate softness, her long, captivating legs, her kittenish whimpers, and her skin, smooth as jade. He’d even think of her pretty, bewitching little feet and the alluring scent that always clung to her. He had thought of all these things more than once.’
"Are you really okay?"
’How could she be in such good shape after falling from that height?’
"Who said I’m fine? Oof, my head is spinning again, and my hand hurts so much... WAHHH, I must have strained it just now..."
Cole Sinclair was exasperated. She was so demanding and fragile. "All right, all right, you’re not better yet. I’ll take you for another check-up tomorrow. I won’t be able to relax otherwise."
At his words, Riley Perry wrinkled her nose. "Let’s not. The hospital smells awful. I don’t want to go back."
"Then we won’t go back. I’ve already arranged for a master of traditional Chinese medicine, Old Mr. Halloway, to come over. He can check your pulse properly tomorrow. Perhaps traditional medicine can detect something Western medicine missed. I’ll only be at ease once Old Mr. Halloway says you’re fine."
Old Mr. Halloway, whose full name was Gavin Holloway, was the heir to a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. He had previously been based in Dragonspire, where he was responsible for managing the health of several high-ranking officials.
Ordinary people couldn’t hire him even if they showed up with a pile of cash.
Riley Perry immediately laid on the praise. "Mr. Sinclair, besides my family, you’re probably the person in this world who treats me the best!
What am I going to do? If you keep this up, I might get greedy."
Cole Sinclair’s eyes darkened. ’Greedy? Does she want my heart?’ He instinctively pushed the question aside and changed the subject. "Right, I still haven’t asked you about that guy from tonight."
’I wanted to ask at the hospital, but this woman is a master at derailing conversations. She never gave me an opening.’
Riley Perry shifted, resting a hand on his chest. "Who knows what got into him. But isn’t it normal for guys to confess to someone as gorgeous as me?"
Cole Sinclair was speechless again. ’Normal? What’s normal about that? Has she forgotten she’s already taken?!’
"Stay away from other men. And another thing—I noticed you don’t even have anyone to look after you at the hospital. I should arrange an assistant for you."
"No need to trouble yourself. I have assistants. One is running errands and the other is picking someone up. They’ll both be here tomorrow."
Rocco had gone to pick up Nana and Rhona. She’d told Nana ahead of time that someone would be staying with her overnight so they didn’t need to come over. Nana wasn’t an idiot; she knew Riley was talking about her "sugar daddy" and didn’t insist.
The two of them chatted endlessly, and at some point, they drifted off to sleep in each other’s arms.
Meanwhile, Raymond Warren wasn’t having nearly as good a time.
After the bodyguards dragged him and his assistant away, he was gagged and thrown into a trunk.
By the time Cole Sinclair had taken Riley Perry back to his room, Raymond Warren was receiving the first brutal beating of his life.
