Primordial Awakening: I Can Evolve My Skills Infinitely-Chapter 65: The Howling Spider and Canyon Ogres
Chapter 65: The Howling Spider and Canyon Ogres
Slash! Slash! Slash!
The [Howling Spider] lunged again and again, its monstrous limbs slamming down toward Sam with ferocity, but each attack was met with steel.
Calmly, without blinking, Sam deflected every strike.
His sword moved like a blur, redirecting the crushing blows with precision that almost seemed inhuman.
"What the hell’s going on?"
"Who even is this guy? He’s actually fighting that thing... alone?"
"Shouldn’t we be running? Is he insane or—?"
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Sam moved again, dancing through the spider’s flurry of strikes.
His face remained as blank as ever, not a flicker of tension.
He shifted his weight and spun with fluid ease, carving through one of the spider’s legs in a clean arc.
The limb dropped with a sickening crunch, and the monster staggered slightly, its stance thrown off.
Then, without warning, the spider tilted its head back.
Its jaw unhinged, and a torrent of glowing, purple venom built up in its throat.
Sam’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t hesitate.
Fwoosh!
He darted to the side just as the venom shot out in a violent blast, melting a portion of the stone beneath where he had been standing.
He leapt high.
And as the spider tried to track him, Sam twisted his body mid-air and drove his primordial sword straight down.
Shink!
The blade pierced into the spider’s skull, splitting its outer shell with a hiss of energy.
The beast clicked madly, legs flailing, trying to shake him off, but it was too late.
Slash! Slash! Slash!
Sam sliced through its head in rapid succession, cutting through bone and tissue until the spider’s struggles stopped completely.
Its massive form twitched one last time, then collapsed.
Sam landed softly as if nothing had happened.
A second later, black tendrils slithered from the blade of his primordial sword, wrapping around the boss’s shattered body.
The core was drawn in instantly.
Ding!
[Congratulations to Sam Walker for leveling up to Level 4 of the Adept Rank!]
’Only one level for taking down something nearly two whole ranks above me, huh,’ Sam thought with a quiet sigh.
Still, he didn’t complain. Experience was experience.
He stood silently, barely acknowledging the sheer silence behind him.
The group of awakeners stood frozen in place, most of them looking like they had just seen a ghost. Their eyes were wide, jaws slack.
Only three of them, Alicia, Chloe, and Lily, were less shocked than the rest.
They had seen glimpses of Sam’s strength before. Even so, none of them had expected this.
"Hey," a voice called out.
Alex stepped forward through the crowd, stopping a few feet from Sam. "I... don’t know how you did that, but... good job."
Sam glanced at him with his usual neutral gaze. Then nodded. "No problem. Just don’t die."
That was all he said before turning and walking away, leaving the others behind. freewebnσvel.cøm
The rest of the awakeners remained frozen for a moment longer, processing what they had just witnessed.
A level 40 boss, completely destroyed. In seconds.
And most of them knew they wouldn’t have lasted more than a minute against it.
[Hell-Mode Analysis: There are currently 1,058 Awakeners alive.]
’That’s why you gave me that panel earlier... You’re tracking them. All the ones who die because of me.’
There was no reply.
But Sam didn’t need one. He already knew.
Every time he entered a layer, something changed.
The world twisted, the monsters grew stronger, the balance tipped. This wasn’t coincidence.
It was him. His very presence made the system shift.
He hadn’t asked for it. He hadn’t wanted it. But it was there.
So all he could do... was move forward.
[You have the feeling that something is watching you.]
[The "Forsaken Lord" of this layer knows you are here.]
Sam wasn’t surprised.
The [Black Sun] in the second layer had noticed him the moment he entered.
The [Abyssal King] before that had been shocked when they met.
These beings, what he called Forsaken Lords, they were connected. Watching. Waiting.
The third sub-layer was still somewhere ahead. He would need to find it.
And he had no doubt that this one would be even harder than the last.
His fight against the [Abyssal King] had been brutal.
But the [Black Sun] had nearly killed him, if it hadn’t been for his [Eternal Barrier] and the [Crescent Slash], he wouldn’t have survived at all.
’That’s the strength of Forsaken rank skills,’ he thought. ’They change everything.’
He stepped forward.
And behind him, the rest of the group finally shook off their shock.
"Do not falter!" Chloe’s voice rang out, sharp and confident. "This man is strong. We follow him now. The expedition continues!"
"Yes, Guild Leader!"
All of the [Viper Guild] surged forward, quickly catching up to Sam’s pace.
Even the [Arcane Society], though less enthusiastic, moved with purpose.
"This is humiliating," muttered the robed leader of the mages. "To be carried by a swordsman... but we have no choice. Let’s go."
In the middle of their group, Lily smiled faintly.
Alex raised his voice once more. "Anyone who wishes to leave, go now. There is no turning back after this."
No one moved.
Whether it was because of pride, shame, or simply the hope they’d be protected by Sam’s presence, no one left.
[Cowards.]
Sam heard the thought but ignored it.
He had no interest in the honor of it all.
He just needed to proceed.
"Thanks," Chloe whispered as she caught up to him. "For earlier. If you hadn’t been there..."
"I just want to get stronger," Sam replied plainly. "Try not to die. I get the feeling this place has things worse than the second layer."
Chloe nodded quietly.
For a moment, all eyes were on him.
Oscar Windshield clenched his fists, his fiery aura beginning to leak into the air.
"If that weak-looking brat can do it," he growled, "then we sure as hell can too! Inferno Guild, let’s move! We’ll rise above them all!"
His team let out a battle cry behind him.
And just like that, the entire group was in motion again, with Sam at the front, leading without a word.
They walked for five minutes in relative silence until the canyon opened up into a massive circular arena.
That’s where they saw them.
---
[Canyon Ogres]
[Level: 40]
[Description: Ogres that live in the canyon between the cliffs. They are usually in groups.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: Experience.]
---
A dozen of them stood there, massive and unmoving.
Their skin was dark green, muscles bulging, but it was their eyes that caught Sam’s attention.
Each pair of eyes glowed the same deep purple as the spider before.
’I guess that’s the effect of the [Roaring Bell].’
Sam didn’t need an explanation.
He could already feel it, this mechanic wasn’t natural. It was tied to something.
Just like the [Corruption] in the second layer was tied to the [Black Sun].
Here, too, it was connected to the [Forsaken Lord].
"As I thought," Alex muttered behind him. "This layer... it’s broken."
"It’s just like the second," Chloe added. "We can’t trust anything here."
"All monsters are going to be Level 40," Sam called out, taking a step forward. "Get used to it."
Murmurs erupted behind him. Confusion, disbelief.
Of course, Sam couldn’t exactly say: "Hey everyone! This is happening because I’m a Primordial and the world wants me dead!"
So instead... he did the one thing that made sense: carrying them to victory.
As the [Canyon Ogres] began to charge, stomping forward with massive clubs in hand, many of the awakeners instinctively backed away.
But five didn’t.
Oscar, Chloe, Alex, Alicia, and Lily stood their ground, weapons ready, even if they knew it wouldn’t be enough.
"There’s no need," Sam said calmly.
He raised his hand.
SOVEREIGN INFERNO!
A pillar of black fire erupted from his palm, spreading across the canyon’s interior like a flood.
The flames consumed the ogres in seconds, burning their skin, melting their weapons, igniting the very stone they stood on.
When the fire finally cleared, a few of the ogres still stood, charred and cracked, but breathing.
"Hah~" Oscar immediately found this moment to mock him, "If it was my fire, they would have been reduced to ashes!"
"Sturdy bastards," Sam muttered, stepping forward with a faint grin.
And then, he struck.
He moved like lightning, cutting down the survivors with brutal, efficient precision.
No hesitation. No mercy.
He absorbed each of their cores.
Ding!
