Chapter 30: Chapter 30, Nuwa’s Enlightenment

Fu Xi looked at Bai Jin, who had fallen into a state of Enlightenment, and smiled a little; his comprehension was not bad at all, and his hands plucked the strings of the instrument even more swiftly, the melody high-spirited and urgent.

Time passed unknown how much, the sound of the qin had long since faded, and Bai Jin suddenly snapped awake, dazed for a moment. He stood up and gave a deep bow, gratefully saying, "Many thanks, Uncle-Master, for imparting the Dao!"

Fu Xi accepted the bow calmly, with a hint of anticipation, he asked, "What have you realized?"

Bai Jin said excitedly, "The Dao of speed, Wind-controlling Cloud-piercing, Heavenly Flying Immortal."

Fu Xi nodded his head and smilingly said, "Not bad, speed indeed is a kind of life-saving ability." He stood up and said, "Let’s go! I’ll take you to meet Nuwa; she should have finished her Enlightenment by now."

Fu Xi walked outside, and Bai Jin followed behind him.

Bai Jin asked, "Has Nuwa Niangniang been in a state of Enlightenment this whole time?"

Fu Xi nodded and said, "Yes! She used to like traveling around Buzhou Mountain, but now she seldom goes out."

Bai Jin said understandingly, "My Master and my Master-uncles are the same, holed up in the palace every day, contemplating the Saint’s Dao, and as a result, they haven’t figured out anything. Sometimes I really worry about them, fearing that they might stifle themselves."

Fu Xi laughed heartily and said, "Below the Saints, all are ants; such a great Dao is not so easily understood!"

The two of them came to a garden behind the palace, where Nuwa was sitting on a swing in distress, swaying with the wind.

Fu Xi entered the garden, startling the small animals inside into a frenzy. Bai Jin suddenly widened his eyes, struggling to take it all in – what were all these things? Sheep with wolf heads, four-legged ducks, bird with dog heads, snakes with horns, wild pigs the size of little mice, and the like.

The plants were equally unusual, with apple trees bearing bananas, stars of Bethlehem growing dog’s tail grass, goldfish living in the lotuses, trees laden with a brood of piglets.

Bai Jin’s scalp tingled at the sight; this was just like those crazy scientists from his previous life, even crazier than them, as those mad scientists would not have thought to crossbreed animals and plants! What’s more non-scientific was that Nuwa Niangniang, this lady here, had actually made it work; the piglets on the trees were squealing gleefully.

Fu Xi walked over and said, "Little sister, haven’t figured it out yet?"

Nuwa came back to her senses, her brows furrowed, she said, "I feel like I’m just a footstep away, just that one final step."

Bai Jin stepped forward and gave a deep bow, saying, "Greetings, Uncle-Master!"

Nuwa nodded to Bai Jin, then turned her gaze back to those disordered animals and plants, murmuring to herself, "Creation... I’ve already fully understood the evolution of life, so why isn’t it working? What is still lacking in the Dao of Creation?"

Bai Jin stood up and looked at the chaotic animals beside him; these were the experimental subjects from Nuwa Niangniang’s understanding of the Dao of Creation.

Now, Nuwa Niangniang had pushed the evolution of life to its limits; as long as she understood the transformation from death to life, she should be able to become a Saint, huh~ this seems like another excellent opportunity to cling to a thigh (to seek favor)!

Bai Jin bowed and said, "Uncle-Master, I encountered a strange animal on my way here, which I do not recognize. May I ask Uncle-Master to enlighten me?"

Nuwa let out a long sigh, temporarily setting aside her obsession, with a touch of regret flashing in her heart – it seems that the time is not yet ripe.

Then she looked at Bai Jin with a light smile and said, "There are countless species in the Primordial World; it’s normal that you do not recognize them. Show me what you saw."

"Many thanks, Uncle-Master." Bai Jin reached out and scooped a handful of soil from the flower bed, which landed in his hands.

Nuwa gazed with a puzzled expression, thinking why not simply simulate it with mana. What was he attempting to do?

Bai Jin kneaded the clay in his hands and, in just a moment, a grotesque fierce beast materialized, with a ferocious wolf head adorned by four horns, covered in thick fur, and with protruding fangs.

Holding the clay fierce beast respectfully, Bai Jin said, "Please enlighten me, Master."

Nuwa smiled and replied, "A Horned Wolf, a kind of fierce beast that craves blood, lives in packs, and delights in hunting sprites in the mountains."

Bai Jin suddenly understood and exclaimed, "So it’s a Horned Wolf!" He added with a smile, "It looks quite cute when miniaturized like this. It would be nice if it were alive, but alas, it’s only made of clay."

Boom~ Bai Jin’s words struck Nuwa’s mind like a Thunderbolt Heavenly Sound, leaving her standing there in a daze, repeatedly contemplating the thought: if only it could be alive, if only it could be alive, if only it could be alive...

Sensing something amiss with Nuwa, Fu Xi hastily inquired, "Little sister, what’s wrong?"

Nuwa came back to her senses, exclaiming with joy, "My Dao has been achieved~" She immediately floated and flew away.

Bai Jin muttered bewilderedly, "What’s happened to the Niangniang?"

Fu Xi displayed an ecstatic smile and said, "Little sister is about to achieve the Saint Dao. Looking at the clay sculpture in Bai Jin’s hands, he expressed his gratitude, "Thank you, my nephew, for your guidance. My sister’s Saint Dao has been completed."

Bai Jin waved his hands hastily and said, "Master, you’re giving me too much credit. I didn’t do anything!"

Fu Xi laughed and said, "Nephew, whether intentional or not, we owe you a debt of gratitude; we shall repay you someday."

His figure flashed next to Bai Jin, grabbed his arm, and said, "Let’s go!"

In an instant, light flew by, and in the blink of an eye, they had descended Buzhou Mountain and arrived at a lower and smaller mountain; Nuwa was sitting cross-legged in the void below with a Big Cauldron in front of her, inside which a lump of clay was spinning.

Fu Xi introduced, "It’s the Qiankun Cauldron and the Soil of Rest."

Bai Jin nodded.

Fu Xi sat down at the mountain top and said, "Nephew, sit down and wait. Enlightenment is not achieved in an instant."

Bai Jin also sat cross-legged atop the mountain, both silently observing the unmoving Nuwa below.

Days came and went, and in an instant, three days had passed.

Nuwa, who had been entirely still, suddenly reached into the Qiankun Cauldron, took out a handful of clay, kneaded it, and shortly thereafter, a twisted little monster materialized in her hands — one leg thick, one thin; one arm long, one short — for now, let’s say it was a monkey.

Nuwa casually threw the clay monkey, which upon touching the ground, enlarged immediately, its clay body becoming flesh and blood. After feeling its body with joy, it knelt down to kowtow in worship, then jumped away cheerfully, but after only a couple of steps, it crashed to the ground with a slap and shattered.

Nuwa’s face showed neither shock nor joy as she continued to reach into the Qiankun Cauldron and created a strange tiger, throwing it out; upon landing, the tiger roared excitedly and bounded off. This time it ran further but ultimately turned back into a clay sculpture.

Atop the mountain, Bai Jin said with perplexity, "Master, I have a question I’d like to ask."

"Do you want to ask why they turn back into clay sculptures? Although my sister now understands the path of Creation, she hasn’t fully mastered it yet; she needs more time for comprehension."

"That’s not what I wanted to ask."
