Progenitor Vampire: I Have Many Skills!-Chapter 681: Head-on fight
In the First Arena, the situation was calm, but the rest of the arenas were quite lively. Many of the first 32 lost their places and had to challenge again. Here, too, the strategy employed was at risk.
It is not the same to face a person in top form as it is to face a person who is quite exhausted from the various fights they have had to endure.
That is why they always look for ways to wear down the owners of the tiles so that they can then face them properly, thus giving themselves more opportunities.
And, since Juliet was one of the most famous people in the city, she had many confrontations. Many wanted to be the one to take down the most prominent figure in White Edge City, but no one succeeded.
’She’s really powerful,’ Matthew thought, frowning as he watched her movements from a distance.
Her body was astonishingly resilient, clearly more resilient than his. And her martial arts skills were exquisite.
He didn’t know what type of martial art she used, but she had mastered it completely, to the point where the rest of her opponents seemed to be playing around her, while she maintained total control of the fight.
Her strikes were precise and hit the right spots, while her footwork was even more precise, knowing where to move at all times.
Matthew couldn’t help comparing his martial arts to hers...
’In terms of pure martial arts, I’m sure I would lose,’ he thought. ’She must be very close to Liam Wagner’s level, or perhaps at his level.’
After studying Juliet, he rolled his eyes to the end of the 32 tiles and settled on number 31.
There was also someone dangerous on that tile.
’Possibly at Juliet’s level in martial arts, or even above.’ He thought.
He couldn’t see her face because she was completely covered from head to toe in dark clothing, but she appeared to be a woman.
’It really is a place full of hidden tigers and dragons.’ Matthew smiled and thought about resting, since no one was coming to challenge him.
But just then, someone else entered his field of vision.
’Isn’t that one of the guys who was with Juliet yesterday?’ he thought. It was the one on tile number 3, John Larsen, from the local Larsen Clan.
’Did he lose to the one from Dark Spring?’
William was standing in Arena 3, resting after the fight he had had earlier. Out of respect for Juliet, he did not seek a fight with her, as she had been challenged many times, so he chose the third tile, where he would surely not fall no matter what happened.
On the other hand, John Larsen had made a decision.
He stepped onto the first tile and stood in front of Matthew, raising his sword in front of him.
"You defeated Young Master William because you knew his martial arts very well. So I want to test your true limits," he said. "I am John Larsen, Swordsman."
Matthew stared at him. He was right. He had won before because he knew William’s art perfectly, so this fight could be more dangerous for him.
So he stood firm and kept his sword in his hand.
"Go ahead," he said simply.
Suddenly, John’s attack reached him in seconds, and both swords clashed loudly in a deafening first impact.
Even so, they couldn’t stop. They continued to attack each other, repeatedly striking at each other’s weaknesses.
It was a head-on fight that lasted for more than three minutes, but there was a clear loser in the end.
John tried to dodge Matthew’s onslaught, but Matthew was too fast and powerful. Moreover, thanks to Matthew’s keen perception, he could anticipate John’s attacks to a certain extent, allowing him to perform much better with each move.
Not only did he counterattack, but he also attacked John without giving him time to rest. John’s counterattack quickly turned into a desperate struggle as he was overwhelmed.
But his martial arts skills were truly impressive. His footwork was exquisite. He took advantage of a few centimeters of deviation in Matthew’s sword to lunge to the side, strike him on the shoulder, and finally escape the brutal attack, which left him with numerous wounds.
Neither of them even looked at each other’s faces before lunging at each other.
CLANK*
The powerful impact of the swords echoed once more, and again they fought head-on, but this time Matthew’s combo was interrupted by an unexpected vertical attack.
John realized that this was his chance to attack, so he stepped forward and struck with a flurry of front thrusts and sideways movements.
Although Matthew managed to defend himself against most of them, he did not escape unscathed. But he had no time to counterattack, as John managed to avoid him by kicking him in the chest, sending him more than 7 meters away and forcing him to catch his breath.
’Wow, that’s pretty good,’ Matthew thought, looking at the wounds on his body that were beginning to heal.
’His strength is quite good; he’s also at the Emerald level. But his martial arts are mixed. Thrusts, vertical attacks, horizontal attacks, and even using his body as a weapon. These families have good things in their treasures,’ he thought, and looked at him again.
John wasn’t doing well either. Matthew’s attacks were too powerful and effective. While Matthew could dodge 6 or more of 10 attacks, he could only dodge 2, which made it more difficult for him to maintain his optimal state and forced him to be in a passive position most of the time.
’He has high perception, so his vampiric power should be quite high,’ John thought. ’I wonder how high. My vampiric power isn’t low for my age, but I can’t anticipate so many hits, and he shouldn’t be much older than me; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to participate.’
He considered another possibility: that his martial arts skills had dramatically heightened his senses.
It was possible; he had faced various martial artists, including monks who fought with their fists, swordsmen, and other types of weapon users, and some of them had martial arts skills that dramatically heightened their senses, giving them overwhelming advantages over their opponents.
’Although in this case it’s more exaggerated. No one had ever dodged so many of my attacks.’ He frowned.
He took a deep breath and then gripped his sword tightly.
He realized that this fight was going to be difficult for him... If not impossible.
