Chapter 43: Chapter 43 Midnight Attack (1)_1

At this time, everyone was fast asleep. What was he to do?

He took out his cell phone and entered Julia Bluen’s phone number, but he didn’t make the call. He couldn’t bear to disturb her peaceful slumber.

Giving up on calling, Glades Horne got out of the car. He leaned against it, arms crossed, and quietly watched the three-story Main House of the Bluen Family mansion. Julia lived on the second floor, and his gaze remained fixed on a specific spot there.

Suddenly, his mind flashed back several days to when he had been abandoned by Ruby Bluen.

He had been angry, embarrassed, bewildered, and dejected, but there was no trace of that bone-deep heartache.

As he had been drinking, a question had actually crossed his mind. Logically, being dumped by a girlfriend of many years in front of the Civil Affairs Office should have been heart-wrenching. So why hadn’t he felt that way?

Huh? A light came on.

The room he had been staring at intently suddenly lit up, pulling him from his reverie.

His eagle-sharp eyes remained fixated on the room. What is my wife doing up in the middle of the night? Insomnia? Is she still upset about being abandoned and betrayed by Nicholas Coldwell? He knew Julia was strong and a breakup wouldn’t crush her, yet he couldn’t help worrying. Three years of feelings. He knew she had been sincere; her face always used to beam with a happy smile.

It was asking a lot of her to forget such a betrayal in just a few days.

Nicholas Coldwell! Glades Horne’s gaze turned colder. He silently vowed, Just you wait. I’ll make you regret it until your guts turn green. I’ll make you lose everything you’ve ever wanted!

A tall, slender figure appeared on the room’s small balcony, clad in a snow-white night robe. It was Julia Bluen.

Perhaps it was telepathy. Julia Bluen had woken in the middle of the night, suddenly unable to fall back asleep. She stepped onto the balcony, intending to admire the tranquil night scenery, which held a unique charm. Then she saw a car parked in front of her house—a car that felt incredibly familiar—and a tall, sturdy figure leaning against it. Even from a distance, she could sense his commanding, noble aura.

Glades Horne! What’s he doing here in the dead of night?

Without a second thought, Julia Bluen left the balcony, quickly changed her clothes in her room, and then crept out, careful not to wake her family. Feeling like someone sneaking off for a secret rendezvous, she exited the Main House and dashed to the mansion’s front gate.

"What are you doing here?" She patted herself down, realizing she hadn’t brought her keys. She could only look at Glades Horne through the wrought-iron gate, asking with concern, "Has something happened?"

Glades Horne unfolded his arms and walked up to Julia Bluen. His dark eyes stared intently at her; he didn’t speak, just kept looking.

Something must have happened! That was Julia Bluen’s instinctive reaction because the Glades Horne before her seemed strangely unlike himself. She wasn’t worried about losing her composure in front of her man; her personality was somewhat easygoing, and she didn’t act like a pampered young lady. Gripping the gateposts tightly, she started to climb, intending to vault over.

"Julia!" Glades Horne called out hoarsely, his concern evident. "Be careful!" If he hadn’t desperately wanted to hold her, to be with her right then, he wouldn’t have allowed her to climb the gate.

Julia Bluen nimbly scaled the two-meter-high gate. She had only climbed down a few steps on the other side when a pair of strong hands swiftly reached out and caught her. Her body was lifted from the ornate iron gate and into Glades Horne’s warm, solid embrace. Pressed against his chest, she heard his steady, powerful heartbeat, which was somewhat rapid.

She tilted her head back, her bright, almond-shaped eyes searching his. "You’re angry, aren’t you?" she stated confidently. And not just a little angry, judging by how fast his heart is beating.

Glades Horne didn’t speak. Still carrying her, he walked to his car, placed her inside, then got in himself and started the engine, driving off.

"Where are we going?"

Glades Horne remained silent, merely turning the steering wheel quickly as he drove.

Knowing he was angry, Julia Bluen didn’t ask any more questions.

A few minutes later, the car stopped in front of a villa covering about five hundred square meters. This villa had originally been a gift from Glades Horne to Ruby Bluen but was now registered in Julia Bluen’s name. It was located in the deepest part of Luxury Garden, near a large artificial lake. From the villa’s balcony, one could see the clear waters of the lake, which was backed by several low, rolling mountains. Though not tall, the mountains were covered in lush, green trees, creating a delightful view.

The Courtyard featured an antique-style octagonal Pavilion, its roof entirely covered with golden-yellow glazed tiles. During the day, when sunlight bathed the area, these tiles would gleam with a golden radiance. Every aspect of the Courtyard’s landscaping was meticulously designed, offering unique beauty from every vantage point. This careful arrangement made the villa’s surroundings appear elegant, distinguished, and luxurious. freewebnσvel.cøm

Glades Horne got out of the car and, from somewhere, produced a set of keys. This villa had been a gift to Julia Bluen; one set of keys had been included in the betrothal gifts sent to the Bluen Family, while Glades Horne kept another. In a way, this villa was their new home together. He unlocked the villa’s main gate, then returned to the car, drove it onto the property, and parked in the garage.

"Whose place is this?" Julia Bluen asked curiously as she got out of the car, not immediately recognizing it.

"Ours," Glades Horne replied softly. He quickly walked to the main gate and locked it again. Watching him, a question flashed through Julia Bluen’s mind: He locked the gate... does that mean he’s not leaving?

Ours? What did he just say? Ours? Suddenly, Julia Bluen seemed to remember something, and her face flushed red.

"Let’s go inside. It’s getting a bit chilly out here in the middle of the night." Having locked the main gate, Glades Horne walked back to her, took her hand, and led her towards the house. He opened the doors one by one and then switched on all the lights throughout the villa.

In an instant, lights blazed on both inside and outside, their varied glow illuminating the villa’s magnificence.
