Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 644 Rachel Gives Birth to a Daughter (4)_1
The two little babies occasionally caused a ruckus, playing with their toys and making noise, intentionally disrupting the adults’ conversation.
As noon approached, Rachel suddenly felt a pain in her stomach.
She nervously said to Julia, who was about to say goodbye and head home, "Julia, I think my stomach hurts a little."
Upon hearing this, Julia and Adele both grew anxious. Julia asked nervously, "Does it just feel like it hurts, or does it really hurt? Your due date is in the next few days, right? If it really hurts, it means the baby is coming."
Rachel Bailey wrinkled her small face and said, "It really hurts."
"Then the baby is coming! Quick, to the hospital! Oh, why isn’t Hansen Ruiz back yet?" Julia hastily placed her son on the couch, stood up, supported Rachel, and said, "I’ll take you to the hospital right away."
"Okay."
Rachel nodded. Her stomach ached intermittently, each pang sharper than the last.
It’s really time.
WAAH WAAH—
Suddenly, an infant’s cry pierced the air.
"Young Master Ivan!" the nanny exclaimed at the same time.
Julia turned her head, her face paling in fright. In that short moment, Ivan Horne had managed to roll off the couch and onto the floor. The fall naturally made the little fellow cry incessantly.
"Ivan!"
Julia moved as swiftly as the nanny, rushing forward to pick her son up from the floor. She was terrified, worried he might have been injured in the fall.
Adele Horne also helped soothe him, though she couldn’t resist saying to Julia, "Sister-in-law, no matter how anxious or nervous you are, you can’t just leave Ivan on the couch like that. He can roll over now, and if he does, he’ll roll right onto the floor. You should have given him to the nanny." If the family saw that Ivan had rolled onto the floor, there would be chaos. Ivan Horne was currently the apple of the Horne Family’s eye; if he cried for even a little too long, everyone’s hearts would clench as if a piece of their own flesh were being torn away.
Julia said nothing, just kept soothing the child.
The couch wasn’t very high off the ground, so little Ivan wasn’t hurt. He stopped crying after a few minutes. Once Julia had checked him for injuries and saw he had stopped crying, she finally calmed down, though she inwardly berated herself for her carelessness.
Rachel was also startled when Ivan rolled onto the floor. The shock and tension made her stomach ache even more sharply. The pain was so intense that she couldn’t help but cry out softly, "It hurts so much!"
"Rachel, are you okay?" Julia asked with concern.
The nanny, however, kept her composure and immediately called Hansen Ruiz. He was on his way home when he received the nanny’s call and sped back at once.
Soon, Rachel Bailey was rushed to the hospital.
Julia handed her son to the nanny, instructing her to take him back to the Horne residence in Adele’s car, while she accompanied Hansen Ruiz to the hospital.
Outside the delivery room, Hansen Ruiz sat quietly on a chair beside the door, waiting. He appeared more composed than Glades Horne had been back then, but a closer look revealed his nervousness. His face was slightly pale, and his hands repeatedly clenched into fists and then relaxed.
The nanny had also come along and waited with him outside the delivery room.
Compared to the bustling scene during Julia’s childbirth, Rachel’s situation seemed quite desolate. Her own family didn’t know she was about to give birth. Even if they were informed, it would take them several hours by car to arrive. As for her in-laws, her mother-in-law had never liked her and was even more displeased upon learning the baby was a girl. Furthermore, after a major argument with Hansen Ruiz, Alwin Ruiz (Hansen’s mother) wanted nothing more to do with her.
Hansen Ruiz hadn’t informed his own family either. Rachel has me, and that’s enough. I don’t care if my family accepts her or not; I don’t need to worry about it. As long as Mother doesn’t make trouble, things will calm down after this storm.
Julia didn’t sit; she was too restless to stay seated.
Though time should have flown by, to her, every second dragged on interminably.
For the first time, she truly understood how it felt to wait outside a delivery room.
Glades Horne soon arrived. It wasn’t that he was particularly concerned about Rachel; he was there for his Julia.
"Glades, Rachel has been in there for almost an hour and still isn’t out. I’m so worried." The moment she saw Glades Horne, Julia rushed towards him as if grasping a lifeline, pouring out her anxiety.
Glades Horne took her hand, pulled her into his embrace, and glanced at Hansen Ruiz, who stood silently with pursed lips, restlessly wringing his hands. Then, he comforted Julia, "Don’t worry, everything will be fine."
With him there, Julia felt considerably more at ease.
Glades Horne had only been there for a few minutes when, unexpectedly, Alwin Ruiz and Matthew Ruiz appeared.
"Hansen, how is Rachel?" Alwin Ruiz asked, worry in her eyes. However, upon seeing her eldest son—who, in her opinion, often disregarded her—she said nothing more, letting her husband, Matthew Ruiz, take over.
"She’s been in there for almost an hour and still hasn’t delivered," Hansen Ruiz replied softly to his father. He didn’t question his parents’ sudden appearance; he had no mental energy for that at the moment.
Can the baby be born safely? Will Rachel be okay? If something happens... should I save her or the baby? His mind was consumed by these thoughts.
Suddenly, the door to the delivery room opened.
Hansen Ruiz immediately sprang to his feet and rushed forward. "Doctor, how is my wife?" he asked anxiously.
The obstetrician who came out replied, "The baby hasn’t been born yet, and the situation is a bit problematic. I wanted to inform the family first. If she can’t deliver soon, we’ll have to perform a cesarean section."
Hearing this, Hansen Ruiz’s face turned another shade paler. Problematic? What kind of problem? Rachel has been diligent with her prenatal check-ups, and there were never any issues. How could things be problematic now?
"Doctor, what exactly is the problem?" Alwin Ruiz asked anxiously.
Boy or girl, this is the Ruiz family’s first grandchild. I’m actually very nervous.
"The mother’s contractions aren’t very strong," the doctor explained. "We’re worried that prolonging the labor could be detrimental to the baby."
Everyone exchanged uneasy glances.
"Dr. Chen, she’s delivered! She’s delivered!" a nurse suddenly emerged, smiling joyfully.
Hearing that Rachel Bailey had given birth, the doctor also heaved a sigh of relief. "Alright, everything’s fine now. I’ll go in and take a look." With that, the doctor turned and went back inside. Alwin Ruiz quickly grabbed the nurse’s arm and asked, "Nurse, did my daughter-in-law have a boy or a girl?"
Smiling, the nurse replied, "It’s a girl."
Alwin Ruiz’s smile stiffened slightly, but with a tug from Matthew Ruiz, she managed to maintain her composure.
"How is my wife?" Hansen Ruiz asked, suppressing his elation at learning Rachel had given birth to a daughter, his concern for Rachel paramount.
"She seems fine. She just gave birth. I’ll go in and check," the nurse replied before turning and heading back inside, closing the heavy delivery room door once more.
"Rachel had a daughter!" Julia exclaimed, beaming in Glades’s embrace.
I wanted a daughter but had a son. Oh well, I’ll be her daughter’s godmother! That way, I’ll have both a son and a daughter!
Glades merely offered a faint smile and then congratulated Hansen Ruiz.
Color returned to Hansen Ruiz’s face, and a smile spread across it.
I’m a father! I have a daughter! Rachel gave me a daughter—our child!
But their joy was short-lived. Moments later, Rachel Bailey was urgently wheeled out by doctors and nurses and rushed to the Emergency Room. The reason: postpartum hemorrhage—severe bleeding after childbirth. She required immediate resuscitation, blood transfusions, and measures to stop the bleeding.
This sudden turn sent Hansen Ruiz into a frenzy. He grabbed a doctor, shouting at the top of his lungs, demanding they save Rachel Bailey. He threatened to blow up the entire hospital if anything happened to her.
Hearing that Rachel was hemorrhaging, Julia was also stunned. Her legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed, but thankfully, Glades Horne was there to support her.
While Hansen Ruiz, frantic with worry, had lost all composure and could only roar at the doctors, Glades Horne remained relatively calm. Using his connections, he quickly arranged for the hospital’s best doctors to be brought into the Emergency Room to treat Rachel Bailey.
