Chapter 645: Chapter 645 Post-New Year (1)_1

"Glades, I’m scared."

Julia’s legs were still trembling. She genuinely felt afraid, afraid that something terrible might happen to Rachel Bailey.

Glades Horne tightened his grip on her shoulders, softly consoling her. "Don’t be afraid. The best doctors in the entire hospital are here; she’ll be alright." He knew that as long as they found the cause of the postpartum hemorrhage and stopped the bleeding, she would be fine.

Julia leaned into Glades’s embrace, listening to his consolations. Although her heart settled a bit, it still felt suspended high in her chest.

Hansen Ruiz didn’t even need to be mentioned. The usually calm and steady man now paced restlessly back and forth outside the Emergency Room like an ant on a hot pan. The joy of just becoming a father had been completely washed away by worry and fear. What would he do if something happened to Rachel? What about his daughter? If Rachel... No, it couldn’t be. She wouldn’t have any problems.

Sometimes, Hansen Ruiz would sit down, but as soon as he did, he would start pulling at his hair. His once neatly combed hair was now a mess, resembling a bird’s nest.

"Hansen, don’t be like this. When you’re like this, even Mom gets scared," Mrs. Ruiz said, her heart aching as she watched her son. "Rachel is a fortunate person; she’s strong and will surely make it through."

"Yes, Hansen, don’t be like this. Rachel will be alright," Matthew Ruiz also comforted.

Julia looked at Hansen Ruiz. His loss of control showed her just how much he cared for Rachel. He truly loved Rachel dearly.

"Glades."

Julia stepped out of Glades’s embrace and looked up at him, her eyes signaling him to go and comfort Hansen Ruiz. Right now, Hansen Ruiz might not listen to anyone else, but he would definitely listen to Glades Horne.

Glades Horne nodded. He helped her sit on a nearby chair and then walked over to Hansen Ruiz, giving him a firm pat on the shoulder but saying nothing.

Hansen Ruiz looked at him and then nodded firmly. He finally stopped in front of the Emergency Room door, no longer pacing anxiously.

Two bags of blood were brought in. With each delivery, everyone’s heart clenched. It was clear that Rachel was losing a lot of blood.

Waiting was particularly agonizing, especially when life and death hung in the balance. Every minute, every second, was torture for them all.

RING, RING, RING...

Hansen Ruiz’s phone rang.

He didn’t move. Only after it had been ringing for a long while did he take it out. He didn’t even look at the number before answering.

"Hansen, what happened to Rachel? I called her cell phone, but she didn’t answer. How is she? Her due date is approaching, right? Don’t go out these next few days. Stay home with her, in case she goes into labor and no one is by her side. Her father and I have discussed it; in a few days, I’ll come to look after her and help her through her postpartum confinement."

It was Rachel’s mother on the line.

With Rachel’s life hanging in the balance, his mother-in-law called. For a moment, Hansen Ruiz wanted to cry, to pour out his heart to her, but he restrained himself. He tried his best to hide his current anxiety, forcing his usual warm smile as he said, "Mom, rest assured, I won’t be going out these next few days. You don’t need to worry; we have several nannies looking after her at home."

"Mhm. But why isn’t Rachel answering her phone?" Although Rachel’s mother hadn’t detected anything amiss, she still had her doubts.

Just then, the doors to the Emergency Room opened, and several doctors, whom Glades Horne had summoned, walked out.

Hansen Ruiz, forgetting to end the call with his mother-in-law, eagerly asked, "Doctor, how is my wife?"

On the other end of the line, Rachel’s mother heard Hansen Ruiz’s urgent question. Her heart sank. She realized Rachel must have gone into labor and that there might have been complications; otherwise, Hansen’s question wouldn’t have sounded so desperate. She immediately started calling out Hansen’s name, repeatedly asking what was wrong with Rachel. Hansen Ruiz had forgotten about the ongoing call. He was waiting for the doctor’s response and didn’t hear his mother-in-law’s cries. His silence only made her more worried.

"The patient is out of danger," one of the doctors said, visibly relieved.

When the young master of the Horne family had dragged them into the Emergency Room, they’d initially thought they were dealing with some complicated disease. Who knew it would turn out to be just postpartum hemorrhage, a common issue in obstetrics and gynecology? Learning it was Hansen Ruiz’s wife suffering from postpartum hemorrhage, and with Glades Horne keeping vigil outside, they hadn’t dared to complain. Instead, they had focused all their efforts on the rescue. If so many skilled doctors couldn’t save Rachel Bailey, they might as well quit their profession!

Hearing this, everyone finally relaxed.

Hansen Ruiz felt as if all his strength had drained away.

Suddenly, he remembered Rachel’s mother. He quickly pressed the phone to his ear and called out, "Mom? Are you still there?"

"Hansen Ruiz, what exactly happened to my daughter? Did she have an accident?" Rachel’s mother hadn’t hung up; she had been waiting the whole time. When she heard Hansen’s voice again, she immediately pressed him, even calling him by his full name, her tone laced with worry and anger.

"Mom, it’s okay. Rachel has given birth. She just did. It’s a daughter." Hansen Ruiz forced a faint smile. He didn’t tell Rachel’s mother about the severe postpartum hemorrhage or the recent life-saving efforts, wanting to spare her the worry.

"Really? Are mother and daughter safe?" Rachel’s mother’s voice immediately brightened on the other end.

"Mother and daughter are safe."

Hansen Ruiz was an accomplished liar.

Rachel’s mother couldn’t detect anything unusual in his tone.

She was overjoyed. After giving Hansen Ruiz a few more instructions, she hung up.

Not long after, Rachel Bailey was wheeled out of the Emergency Room by doctors and nurses and transferred to a high-level Maternity Room.

Only after knowing Rachel was safe did everyone feel up to seeing the newborn baby girl.

In the Nursery Room, Julia bent over slightly, smiling as she looked at the baby girl. The newborn was sound asleep and looked healthy and beautiful.

"So cute. Much cuter than my little one at home." Julia liked Rachel’s daughter the instant she saw her, almost wishing she could claim the baby as her own.
