Proud senior schoolgirl was tender and sweet, we fell in love-Chapter 409 All In The Family
Lin Yu had brought the child home by the afternoon.
When he arrived, the entire Xie Xiao family was at home.
Little Tuan Zi had fallen asleep by the time he was brought back.
Lin Yu, careful not to let him get cold, had kept the snugly wrapped child pressed against his down jacket.
Xie Xiao reached out with amusement and took the child from him.
Then he carried the child into the bedroom.
Lin Yu sat in the living room, where Luo Yanran poured him a cup of hot tea.
Xie Qingxiao and Yang Lan were telling him he had worked hard.
Lin Yu looked annoyed, "Uncle, Auntie, if you keep acting like this, how can I not get angry? Will I dare to come again in the future?"
As Lin Yu spoke, his eyes were filled with earnestness, "You always told me not to be so formal, and now you’re the ones being formal."
Lin Yu had always felt that his fate took a turn for the better from the moment he met the Xie family father and son.
It had started with Xie Xiao’s indifference to his temperament.
Later on, it was the overt and covert help from the Xie family.
They were really kind to him.
Initially, it might have been for Xie Xiao’s sake that they were kind to him.
But Lin Yu knew what sincerity was.
Latterly, Xie Qingxiao and Yang Lan genuinely began to treat him like their own child.
Whatever Xie Xiao needed, they always sought to prepare it for him, too.
During puberty, when he was particularly sensitive, they even took care to manage his emotions.
Throughout the years when he was away, they had never stopped caring for his grandmother.
Despite being busy with work, they still remembered to visit his grandmother, join her for meals, and chat with her.
Lin Yu smiled, "To say something shameless, in my heart, Uncle and Aunt, in my heart, I can also call you mom and dad just like Tuan Zi calls me."
Surprise flashed across the faces of Xie Qingxiao and Yang Lan.
Xie Xiao, who had just walked out, was about to speak when Luo Yanran took his hand and sat him down to one side.
Xie Qingxiao sighed, "Actually, your Auntie and I had thought about letting you call us godfather and godmother, so we could take full responsibility for you in the future..."
Over the years, they had truly grown fond of the young and the old, and Xie Qingxiao couldn’t bear parting with them.
Lin Yu was a good kid, and that made it even harder to let go.
Indeed, Yang Lan had suggested before that Lin Yu could call them godparents so that they could spend money on him and the old lady wouldn’t have to work so hard.
"But Xie Xiao told us that you would probably feel uncomfortable," Xie Qingxiao said with a resigned smile, "We’re not trying to take advantage of you. Mainly, we understand that you and the old lady, well, you both are quite stubborn."
Lin Yu glanced at Xie Xiao with a smile.
Xie Xiao raised his eyebrows at him.
He believed that he still understood Lin Yu.
His parents had indeed thought about formally acknowledging Lin Yu as their godson when he had just started high school.
But how sensitive Lin Yu was back then!
Even though he could laugh about wanting to call Xie Qingxiao and Yang Lan godparents now, Xie Xiao knew it was because Lin Yu was quite satisfied with his present self.
If there had been any dissatisfaction, with Lin Yu’s nature, feeling too ordinary, he would never have dared to address them with such a term.
In his heart, he had to have achieved something before he felt worthy of the kindness of Teacher Xie and Doctor Yang.
It had to be said that Xie Xiao understood Lin Yu to some extent.
He had a clear grasp of Lin Yu’s thoughts.
Hearing Xie Qingxiao’s words now, Lin Yu showed an embarrassed smile, "If I were nothing, I really wouldn’t dare to shout that. I’d be afraid of embarrassing you."
Yang Lan patted him, "Embarrassed about what? Though there are no ceremonies, you’re just like Xie Xiao to us—in our hearts, you’re both our children."
Yang Lan teased Lin Yu with a smile, "You’re even more like my child than Xie Xiao is, aren’t you? We do the same kind of work, right?"
Xie Xiao exclaimed, "Mom, why would you say that? So basically, we’re blood and I’m the one who was picked up?"
Yang Lan glanced at him with a smile, "What else could it be?"
Everybody started laughing.
Lin Yu waited until everyone had quieted down a bit before whispering, "I’m planning to go and register my marriage with Liu Ou."
Everyone showed surprised expressions, followed by delight.
"Is this good news? Does the old lady know?"
"Wow, you’re really keeping pace, kid."
"Right, I’ve prepared something for you both..." Yang Lan said as she stood up. "Liu Ou didn’t come..."
Lin Yu was somewhat surprised, "Auntie..."
But Yang Lan had already gone inside.
She soon came back holding a box.
Recognizing the somewhat familiar box, Luo Yanran and Xie Qingxiao exchanged glances.
As expected, Yang Lan placed the box into Lin Yu’s arms, "Take this back for Liu Ou."
Seeing the wooden box, Lin Yu hesitated to accept it, "No need, Auntie, it’s like I came here just to get something..."
He glanced at Luo Yanran.
After all, the legitimate daughter-in-law was right there.
He feared some kind of misunderstanding.
Luo Yanran noticed his look and raised her eyebrows back at him, "Don’t look at me. I know about it. Mom told me already. I have one too."
Xie Qingxiao and Xie Qingxiao also said, "Take it."
"Have a look."
Lin Yu looked at the box in his arms but didn’t move.
Yang Lan sat beside him and helped him open the box, "This is some old stuff from my wedding. When Xie Xiao got married, I gave half to Luoluo, and the other half, after discussing with Luoluo and Xie Xiao, we decided to leave for you."
Yang Lan’s voice was gentle, "Over the years, we’ve watched you grow up and we truly consider you one of our own. Back when Xie Xiao was in high school, he had his muddled moments that you advised upon and helped with—we all know this. A family doesn’t speak in terms of two households, and these things aren’t worth much, we know you can earn your own money now. But as elders, we still need to give something; otherwise, people might think our family doesn’t look after its own..."
Yang Lan’s eyes reddened slightly, "The old lady... it hasn’t been easy for the old lady to raise you up all these years, probably there won’t be much left."
Yang Lan looked earnestly at Lin Yu, "What we can give isn’t much, but you’ve done us proud, Lin Yu. Don’t keep such distance with us."
Lin Yu’s eyes turned red.
Indeed, Lin Yu didn’t have many people around him.

That’s what he had thought before.
But now he knew that he always had people by his side.
They were all cautiously protecting him, yet worried about being discovered.
Lin Yu looked at the jade bracelet and other jewelry in the box.
He could afford these now.
But this was different.
This was something given by his elders.
Lin Yu blinked, "I understand. Uncle and Auntie, I’ll live well from now on. A family doesn’t speak in terms of two households."
Xie Qingxiao patted him and said with a laugh, "Such a big kid and you’re crying? If it weren’t for the complications in our relations, I would ask you to kneel down and call us godfather and godmother, then you could be even less formal."
Xie Xiao said with a laugh, "It’s all the same, isn’t he Tuan Zi’s godfather? It’s all the same, we’re all family."
