Chapter 43: Suspicious shaped silicones
Jiang Wei’s POV
What are the odds?
The beauty from earlier—the foreign woman I bumped into outside Han Corp—is here.
I did hear whispers on set about a high-class foreign model joining the shoot, but I hadn’t given it much thought.
And yet—here she is.
I watch as the makeup team fits her into a hyper-realistic mermaid tail, the shimmering scales molding to her legs like a second skin.
She transforms before my eyes, from an effortlessly elegant woman into a mythical creature.
It’s... mesmerizing.
*
As we wait for final adjustments, I take a seat next to her, trying to act casual.
I fail.
My gaze drops—unintentionally.
Her bikini top is barely held together by thin strings and a few decorative starfish.
...???
Are those real?
Before I can stop myself, I look up—only to meet her gaze.
She’s already watching me, her lips curved into a knowing smile.
Amused.
Amused that I was staring.
I clear my throat.
>"I’m sorry."
She doesn’t look offended in the slightest.
>"Don’t worry," she says, voice smooth as silk.
>"I paid a pretty penny for them. You’re supposed to look."
I choke on air.
From the corner of my eye, I see the makeup artist working on her tail fumble her supplies, nearly knocking over a whole tray of brushes.
The poor girl scrambles to recover, face red.
>"...All done," she announces quickly before scurrying away.
Jessica barely reacts, stretching out her perfectly toned arms as if she didn’t just say something that nearly sent me into an early grave.
I try to play it cool, leaning back in my chair.
>"What are the odds, huh?"
I say, keeping my tone light.
Jessica tilts her head, eyes gleaming with mischief.
>"Yeah. Is this fate?"
I let out a nervous laugh.
I don’t think I’ve ever been around a woman this bold.
>"How’s the tail?"
I ask, motioning toward the silicone masterpiece wrapped around her legs.
>"Heavy."
I chuckle.
>"Looks like you’ll have to get used to it."
I can’t remember the last time I felt this at ease.
---
The shoot ends successfully, and the set bustles with activity as crew members begin packing up.
I stand near one of the studio lights, scrolling through my phone as everyone prepares for post-shoot drinks.
Then—
A voice.
Smooth. Familiar.
Jessica.
>"What’s going on?"
I don’t even have to turn around to know it’s her.
I slide my phone into my pocket.
> "Drinks later tonight. Just something to wind down after the shoot."
She hums, stepping closer.
>"I’ll pass... unless..."
She takes another deliberate step toward me.
>"Unless you will be there."
I blink.
Her meaning is clear.
And I—like an idiot—respond way too quickly.
>"I definitely will be there."
She smirks.
I was supposed to meet up with Lin Meyu tonight.
But...
I’m sure she’ll understand. It’s work after all.

Han Li’s POV
I glance down at my phone, Jessica’s latest text glowing on the screen.
>He took the bait.
A slow smirk pulls at my lips as I type back a single response:
>Too easy.
Because, of course, it is.
Jessica has wormed her way into the lives—and beds—of more powerful men than I can count.
Some of them political figures, some industry moguls, and—if the rumors are true—even a few high-ranking members of certain religious sects.
Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past her.
---
"Where are we going?"
Jiang Yuxi’s voice breaks through my thoughts, her steps light as she follows me through the city streets.
I don’t answer—just tighten my grip on her hand and lead her through a maze of turns and alleys, until finally, we reach a secluded doorway.
She frowns.
> "Han Li..."
I push the door open, pulling her inside with me.
The moment we step in, she freezes.
Her entire posture stiffens as she takes in the rows upon rows of silicone items.
Realistic. Exaggerated. Suspiciously shaped.
>"...What is this?!"
Jiang Yuxi hisses, stepping closer to me and whisper-yelling.
I grin, slipping an arm around her waist.
>"What do you think?"
I murmur.
Her glare sharpens.
>"You—"
I lean in, dropping my voice to a low whisper.
>"We’re here to buy a di—"
I don’t get to finish my sentence.
Because she steps on my foot. Hard.
I burst into laughter.
The store glows with soft neon lighting, casting a dim, almost luxurious atmosphere over the shelves stocked with everything imaginable.
And some things I didn’t even think were possible. Clearly there’s been new stock.
Jiang Yuxi grabs my arm.
>"Han Li, let’s go back."
I finally turn to really look at her.
She’s flustered.
Her ears are pink, her jaw tight, her hands curled into tiny fists.
I sigh dramatically.
>"Hey, hey. I’m sorry for bringing you here without warning you first."
I take her face in my hands, my thumbs brushing her cheekbones lightly.
>"But look around first, yeah? If you still want to leave, we’ll go. Okay?"
I kiss her forehead before pulling away, watching as she hesitates.
She bites her lower lip.
> "I’m an actress. I can’t be seen in places like this."
I chuckle.
>"Hey, calm down. We’re millions of miles away from home."
I motion around the store.
>"We’re not the only ones here."
She finally glances around.
And—slowly—her tension eases.
Because she finally notices what I did the moment we walked in.
This isn’t just any adult store.
It’s a queer-focused one. High society queer - focused one.
There are other couples casually browsing, laughing, whispering.
The environment is surprisingly comfortable.
I see the exact moment she relaxes.
Then—
>"Wait... is that—"
Her voice drops into a stunned whisper, eyes locked on a familiar figure.
I immediately cover her mouth with my hand, shaking my head.
>"Shhh."
She nods rapidly.
>"Yeah. He’s really sensitive about this kind of thing. Best to pretend we never saw him."
Eventually, Jiang Yuxi stops looking like she’s about to run for her life.
And, to my absolute delight, she actually starts browsing.
I watch as her eyes scan the shelves—curious, cautious, occasionally horrified.
Then she pauses.
Points at something.
>"...Is this humanly possible?"
I follow her gaze.
She’s staring at a massive, purple, alien-looking tentacle... thing.
I blink.
"...I don’t think so." I pause. "But who knows?"
I shrug.
Jiang Yuxi looks at me. Looks at the tentacle. Looks back at me.
Then, finally—
She bursts out laughing.
