QT: The Rescue Of The Miserable Bigshots-Chapter 231 - 8.18
Chapter 231: 8.18
"Did you call Jiamian?"
Father Jiang paced back and forth, visibly restless, while watching his wife put down the phone again. His brows furrowed deeper and deeper.
The company had originally been founded by both Jiang’s father and mother, with the two of them serving as general manager and vice president. It was, in essence, a family-run business. Even though it had expanded significantly over the years, the couple still held key positions within the company.
That was also why their relationship had remained so stable for many years.
"Yes. Why isn’t the child answering his phone?"
Mother Jiang was anxious as well.
She hadn’t even known where Jiang Jiamian went after being discharged from the hospital. She went to pick him up, only to find no one there.
Thankfully, before her worry could grow out of control, Jiamian called on his own and said he was going out to work.
When Mother Jiang thought about the troubles her son had recently faced, especially how that Tang Tang not only pushed him down but then followed Fu Xiaoyuan to the hospital just to provoke him while he was still lying in bed, she grew furious all over again.
She felt her son really needed to go out and relax, to get away from that couple for a while. Maybe then he’d feel better. Once he let it go, the worst that could happen would be the Jiang family suffering a brief setback, but they’d just cancel the engagement, that’s all.
So she hadn’t tried to contact him.
As for what he said before, something about finding a job and five million, Mother Jiang hadn’t taken it seriously. She simply assumed he was in a bad mood and talking nonsense.
But then Chairman Fu of the Fu family sent word!
And what did he say?
He said her son had moved into the villa of Fu Yanchen, the eldest son of the Fu family!
And it had already been several days!
Mother Jiang’s first reaction was disbelief. She thought her son liked Fu Xiaoyuan so much, so how could he possibly get involved with Fu Yanchen, that gloomy man?
Even if he had become disillusioned and no longer liked Fu Xiaoyuan, there was no way he would turn to Fu Yanchen.
Although her initial reaction was denial, once she calmed down, she couldn’t help recalling that strange conversation in the hospital, when her son seemed to have reached some kind of deal with Fu Yanchen.
And then, after going to the VIP room with him, he suddenly started talking nonsense about a job and five million.
"We have to find him and ask him directly!"
Father Jiang’s brows remained tightly furrowed. "Otherwise, if this is true and he doesn’t have a proper explanation, what was originally Fu Xiaoyuan’s fault could end up becoming ours. Jiamian’s reputation will take a hit, and we’ll be forced to bow to the Fu family in future negotiations."
"Don’t worry." Mother Jiang quickly grabbed her husband’s arm and urged him to sit down, "Others might not understand, but as his parents, don’t we know our child? Jiamian isn’t the kind of person who changes his mind so easily. Besides, he liked Fu Xiaoyuan so much, how could he go and get involved with his older brother? There must be some misunderstanding."
Father Jiang sighed deeply, "What’s the point of us believing there’s a misunderstanding? What matters is whether Chairman Fu and Fu Xiaoyuan believe it."
Hearing that, Mother Jiang fell silent.
Yes, the problem wasn’t whether they believed their own son.
It was whether the Fu family did.
If the Fu family truly blamed the Jiang family for this, then all they could do was swallow their pride and admit defeat.
"Why is this kid always so reckless?" Father Jiang lit a cigarette and took a deep puff. "Before, he competed with Tang Tang over Fu Xiaoyuan, he was already confused enough. Then, back at the hospital, he finally seemed clear-headed, saying in front of Fu Xiaoyuan and Tang Tang that he wanted to cancel the engagement, and even analyzing the pros and cons with us. I thought he had finally come to his senses."
But then he went and did something like this, something that would give others a reason to point fingers.
Originally, with Fu Xiaoyuan already engaged and tangled up with Tang Tang, the Fu family was clearly in the wrong. The Jiang family’s best move was to do nothing and let the Fu family lose face.
But now, their son had flipped the script and made it seem like they were the ones at fault.
"Ding ding ding..."
Father Jiang was still frowning when his wife’s phone suddenly rang.
Mother Jiang answered almost instantly, "Hello? Jiamian, where are you? At the door... outside? Okay, okay! I’ll come open the door right away!"
Father Jiang looked up at once, "He’s back?"
"Yes, he’s downstairs." Mother Jiang waved her hand, lowering her voice, "You better talk to him calmly, don’t lose your temper."
Father Jiang stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray. "Alright, alright, I know."
The two exchanged a look, and Mother Jiang walked toward the office door with confidence. But the moment she opened it, the gentle smile she had carefully prepared froze on her face.
She stiffened and slowly looked down at the man in a wheelchair outside the door. Her voice trembled slightly, "Young Master Fu... Jiamian, look at you, you brought a guest and didn’t even mention it on the phone."
At the doorway stood Jiang Jiamian, perfectly composed. Next to him was Fu Yanchen in a wheelchair, and beside him sat a large golden retriever, obediently squatting at his side.
Fu Yanchen saw the extremely stiff expression of Mother Jiang, but greeted her calmly, "Hello, Auntie."
Mother Jiang shuddered and gave a dry, forced laugh, "Ahaha... good, good."
Was she losing her mind? Why had this evil spirit come to her house and even greeted her so politely?
Could the Fu family’s message be true?
Could her son really be having an affair with Fu Yanchen?
If that was the case, they were finished.
If this incident gave the Fu family something to hold over them, not only would their son’s reputation suffer, but their cooperation with the Fu family would be weakened, forcing them to compromise again and again.
After all, no matter how infamous or menacing Fu Yanchen once was, he was now a discarded and disabled member of the Fu family.
Getting close to someone like him could only spell disaster for the Jiang family.
The noise at the door quickly caught Father Jiang’s attention, and he hurried out of the office.
After all, those three words, Young Master Fu, had been widely known three years ago.
And they were more than enough to make him sit up straight and rush out.
