Raised From The Wild-Chapter 407: The Grandpa and Grandson
Marx has a hunch that the King of Ra-Iya was one of the few who did not get caught.
"King Ralden was one of them." He did not even raise a question, but it was a statement.
"Are you disappointed?" the old man asked him.
"Not really, Grandpa," Marx replied, his voice tinged with frustration. "He showed up at a few of the functions, but those were strictly official events. He was skilled at covering his tracks, and tying loose ends."
"By the way, Brat, why did you fight against Skylar Conglomerate on the Crystal Cove project last year? Didn’t you know that we lost billions on that?" Hendrix’s hologram shot him an accusatory look.
"Grandpa, how did you know it was me?" Marx asked innocently.
"Heh! Who was the one who brought you up? Your face may have changed, but your demeanor wouldn’t. The habits formed from a very young age cannot be changed even with a conscious effort. At first, I had my doubts. But the more I watched Charles Gray, the more I was convinced that he was you. And hence, I stopped looking for you."
Marx glanced at his Grandfather briefly. Although he had grown old, his eyes and mind were still sharp. His grandfather was a business genius who was ruthless in dealing with his enemies. But behind a business tycoon’s cold and aloof facade was a warm and gentle grandfather. He was strict with his grandchildren, especially with Marx, but he understood that his strictness was for his own good.
While Frederick was busy looking after his twins because his mistress pretended to always be sick, his grandpa filled the void of the fatherly love he longed for. At that time, Marx could not understand why his father was always away and his mother, Gracie, always cried. Then, one day, his father went home and brought two children, a little older than him, and a beautiful, delicate-looking woman, his mother’s maternal cousin and best friend, his Aunt Estelle.
His grandfather got angry, but his father stood his ground. He threatened Hendrix, telling him that it was either he let the two children and their mother enter the Skylar mansion or he moved out of the house.
Marx was only four years old then, too young to understand the complexity of the adult relationship. But though he was young, he understood that his mother was sorrowful, and in the end, she even fainted from too much anger and was hospitalized.
Hendrix compromised and built a house beside the main mansion in the Skylar Estates. He would not let a mistress inside the main house.
Frederick seemed to have repented. For some time, Marx felt that he had a complete family and that they lived peacefully. Her mother even got pregnant with Karl.
But Estelle, the mistress, was very cunning. She would use her children as leverage to call for Frederick. When Frederick refused because Gracie’s pregnancy, was delicate, the twins would suddenly get sick. Frederick has no choice but to come to the house beside the mansion and stay with the kids. The twins were adorable, after all. Even Hendrix, who disliked their mother, could not help but dote on the twins.
Stacey would always act cute and obedient in front of her grandpa and father, but when they were not looking, she would bully little Marx and often pinch him on his thighs and other hidden body parts.
His mother, Gracie, had a difficult pregnancy and was often in the hospital, leaving Marx at home and vulnerable to the scheming of Estelle and her two children.
Frederick was oblivious, but Hendrix, being observant, noticed Marx being bullied, cared for him, reprimanded the twins, and warned Estelle.
The twins always demanded Frederick’s attention, and Marx, who was well-behaved and not expressive by nature, was often neglected. It was then that Hendrix became closer to Marx, trying to fill the gap left by Frederick.
Hendrix was never biased in his treatment of his grandchildren. He often reprimanded his son, Frederick, to pay attention to Marx and not neglect him. After all, Marx was the legitimate son.
But Frederick, at the helm of the Skylar Conglomerate, was already very busy. He did not have enough energy to care for three children, especially when his firstborn was a pair and demanded too much attention.
When Gracie became pregnant, Frederick started to pay more attention to her. He seemed remorseful about the years he spent with his mistress and spent his free time taking care of Gracie and Marx to make up. For once, Marx felt that Frederick was an ideal father who loved his family very much.
One day, when Gracie was in her seventh month of pregnancy, Estelle and Stacey fell down the stairs. At the same moment, Frederick entered the main entrance.
He was shocked to see the mother and daughter tumble down the stairs, and no matter how fast he ran, he did not make it in time. Estelle protected Stacy as she fell, and It was a good thing that the stairs and the floor were carpeted, so he did not see blood on the floor. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Frederick looked up, and he saw Gracie looking at him with a cold gaze as if she was watching a good show. Her two hands were covering her belly protectively.
"Gracie, how could you be so vicious!" He shouted angrily and scooped the mother and daughter in his arms. It was only then he noticed the gaping wound on Estelle’s right hand and the bruise on Stacey’s forehead.
Gracie collapsed on the floor at the top of the stairs. She was clutching her stomach.
"Frederick, my stomach hurts. Please help me. Take me to the hospital." Gracie’s voice was noticeably weak and in pain.
Frederick appeared conflicted.
"Frederick, Stacey is hurt." Estelle used her wounded hand to tug at at Frederick’s sleeve, her voice was very weak like she was about to faint. Her blood tainted Frederick’s white sleeve.
Frederick did not hesitate anymore. "Ready the car!" He shouted to the driver, who followed him inside. Then he looked around to see the maids, but no one was in sight.
He cast a worried look onto the second floor. "I’ll just send them to the hospital. I’ll ask someone to check on you."
With that, Frederick hurried toward the door. Estelle took a peep on the lonely figure on top of the floor, and she sneered. ’I won the bet, Gracie. You lost!’
