Chapter 408: The Grandpa and Grandson 2

Marx came out of his room when he heard a commotion outside. He was shocked to see his mother slumped on the floor, and there was blood trickling down on her legs.

"Mom!" The boy, barely five years old, ran to his mother and tried to blow on her stomach.

"Marx, listen, call 999 and ask them to send an ambulance, then call your grandfather." Gracie lay down on the floor and tried to relax. She knew she could not let her emotions overcome her and put her baby at risk. She was previously warned that getting pregnant after giving birth to Marx was risky for her, but she has already gotten pregnant, and since it already happened, her OB could only tell her to avoid any stress.

Marx wiped away his tears and dialed 999 using his smartwatch.

"Please, come quickly," the little boy pleaded, his voice trembling with fear and urgency. "My Mommy is in so much pain." The operator’s heart sank as she listened to the small, quivering voice on the other end of the line. She could hardly contain her shock when she saw his location flash on her screen. The Skylar Estates?

"Baby, do you see anyone around? Can I talk to your Nanny or other adults? " the operator asked gently.

"But there is no one around. Please come quickly... Mom... Mom.. are you alright? Please wake up."

The call got disconnected.

Marx remembered his mother told him to call his Grandpa, so he pressed the emergency button on his smart watch and heaved a sigh of relief when Hendrix answered at the first ring.

"Grandpa, please save my Mom. She would not wake up, and there is blood on her legs."

Hendrix’s heart constricted. He activated the 360-degree camera on Marx’s smartwatch, and he almost had a heart attack when he saw Gracie lying down near the stairs.

He called the bodyguard at the mansion and instructed him to check on Gracie. He also called the nurse assigned to Gracie and was fuming angrily when he learned that the nurse was in the garden along with the other maids to set up a baby shower party for Gracie.

Hendrix called the emergency hotline and was relieved when he was told that an ambulance had already been dispatched to the Skylar Estates.

"Send a chopper right now. Any delay might put my daughter-in-law at risk." He commanded with urgency.

He did not waste his time, so he took the elevator to the Skylar Tower’s roof deck and boarded the chopper to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Frederick was comforting Estelle, who was sitting beside him in the back seat of the car while he was holding their daughter, who was still unconscious.

Then he heard the blaring sound of the ambulance, which passed their car and seemed to be heading towards the Skylar Estates. He frowned and looked back. A minute passed, and he heard a chopper pass over them. He followed it with his gaze, and he suddenly felt stifled. He remembered Gracie’s cry for help earlier.

Estelle noticed his facial expression. She leaned over and gently stroked the bruise on her daughter’s forehead.

"Do you think Stacey will be alright?" She asked in a choked voice.

Frederick was distracted as he looked down at his pitiful daughter.

"What happened?"

"Gracie ... she said nasty things to us. She .. she wanted to push us.." Estelle said as tears started streaming down her face.

"Gracie would not do that!" Frederick snapped at her.

Estelle was startled that the tears stopped falling for a few seconds. She was burning inside. Why would Frederick think that Gracie could not do that?

"She did not literally push us. She was moving forward and was forcing us to take a step back. And then .. and then.. I missed my footing, and we fell."

Estelle knew there were cameras in the main house of the Skylar Estates. It would be fruitless to say that Gracie pushed her because she did not lay a finger on her.

Before Frederick could respond, his smartwatch notified him of an incoming call.

"Where are you? Aren’t you home?" Hendrix’s voice cut through the air like ice, sending a shiver down Estelle’s spine. The chill in his tone ignited a surge of unease deep within her, twisting in her stomach like a coiling snake. She could feel the weight of fear settle over her, its grip tightening as she tried to steady her breathing.

"Dad, I am on my way to the hospital. Estelle and Stacy fell on the stairs, and Estelle said that Gracie wanted to push them down the stairs...."

"And you believed her?" Hendrix cut his son angrily.

"Dad, they are both hurt. Stacey is unconscious as of this moment!" Frederick protested.

Hendrix was silent for a moment before his icy voice filled the car.

"Bring them to Skylar Hospital. Gracie is being airlifted as I speak and is bleeding. The doctor on board the chopper cannot stay if she miscarries or the baby can be saved. I still don’t understand why no one was inside the house, not even the nurse supposed to care for her."

There was a click, and Hendrix was disconnected. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Frederick was dumbfounded. He almost lost his grip on Stacey. His face turned pale, and his heart missed a beat.

"Hurry up and go to the Skylar Hospital." He instructed the driver in a trembling voice.

"But Skylar Hospital is farther than Hope Hospital." Estelle protested.

Frederick just glared at her.

"If I find out you provoked Gracie, you will pay for it." Frederick’s voice was cold and menacing as he glared at her.

Estelle felt scared as she shrank into the corner of the car. It took her a moment to regain control of her emotions. "How could I have provoked her? My daughter and I were the ones who were hurt!" Estelle sounded upset, but Frederick seemed not to hear her. His mind was a whirlwind, constantly replaying the earlier scene when Gracie asked for help.

Marx accompanied his mother in the chopper. He made such a fuss that the paramedics had no choice but to take him along.

His mother underwent a caesarian section and gave birth prematurely. She has a weak heart, and while under operation, she had a cardiac arrest. It took a lot of effort for his Uncle Derik, who was a cardiologist, to bring her back.

Young Marx anxiously waited outside the operating room with his grandfather and father, who arrived shortly after them. Marx held his grandpa’s hand and did not spare his father a glance. Frederick paced restlessly in front of the operating room.

The moment the operating room opened, Frederick ran toward it but was met by a punch in his face.

"Didn’t I tell you that a second pregnancy would pose a huge risk to her? Why did you get her pregnant? And why did you provoke her, causing her emotions to fluctuate?"

It was Derik, the second son of Hendrix Skylar.

"What do you mean? How is my wife?" Frederick emphasized the word ’wife.’

"She had cardiac arrest!" Derik wanted to vent his anger and shouted carelessly.

Marx’s fingers, which had been tightly holding his grandpa’s hand, suddenly went limp, slipping away from the frail warmth he had clung to. Tears began to stream down his cheeks, and heart-wrenching cries filled the corridor.

He understood all too well what cardiac arrest truly meant.
