Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!-Chapter 30: You Really Are a Good Person!
"It’s okay! I’ve already checked it out. The place across is a school, and it’s winter break. No one will see us coming in late at night," Bai Xiqin whispered in explanation. "The door isn’t even locked, so it’s only natural for things to be stolen."
Wang Yiyun silently glanced at Bai Xiqin, who looked mischievous, and felt a bit heartbroken.
Her daughter always took one step at a time. Who knows what kind of nightmare she went through to become so cautious now.
The mother and daughter stepped out of the big pharmacy and saw Bai Anhai use his Thunder Ability to strike down a zombie.
"Is it done?"
Leng Yebai quietly asked Bai Xiqin.
"Yes, let’s go, to the gas station!"
Bai Xiqin rode her skateboard, gliding in a direction, with everyone following closely behind.
"Roar—"
A zombie’s roar echoed faintly from behind, making the quiet streets seem even more eerie.
The zombies moved very slowly, no need to worry about them catching up; after a few turns, they were left behind.
Bai Xiqin had thoroughly checked out the gas station location and even walked there a few times.
Along the way, cars were crashed all over, blocking the streets, making it difficult to pass.
When the apocalypse broke out, everyone driving desperately tried to escape, which was the stupidest thing.
Some drivers turned into zombies, and their cars went out of control, crashing elsewhere.
No one knows how many cars were stuck, how could anyone drive out!
The air was filled with the smell of burning, and the sound of zombie roars erupted from time to time.
Streets that were once bustling suddenly became much quieter, quiet enough to make one’s heart uneasy.
The skateboard speed was quick, except for two elders who couldn’t expertly perform tricks while skating.
In no time, they reached the gas station where several cars were waiting to refuel.
Putting the skateboard aside, the four walked a few steps towards the inside of the gas station.
Bai Anhai took out a coin from his pocket and tossed it far away.
The sound of the coin hitting the ground was particularly noticeable.
"Roar—"
A zombie’s roar came from the small room in the gas station.
After waiting for a while, all they heard was the sound of zombies hitting the wooden door, but none came out.
Seems like it’s locked inside.
Occasionally, zombies ran over from the street, and Leng Yebai and Bai Anhai dealt with them.
Meanwhile, Wang Yiyun gleefully used a knife to extract crystal cores.
Bai Xiqin walked around the cars to check if anyone was inside.
Many cars were with their doors left open, including one where the driver had turned into a zombie.
The zombie was firmly trapped in the driver’s seat, angrily roaring at the glass, but to no avail.
"Hey! Help!"
A faint cry for help came from within one of the cars.
Bai Xiqin furrowed her brows and walked to a white car.
The car’s glass was entirely covered with newspaper, which explained why the person inside wasn’t discovered by zombies.
The left car window was slightly lowered, revealing a gap about a finger-width wide.
Inside was a middle-aged man wearing glasses, looking gentle and cultured.
"Excuse me, is it the rescue?"
The middle-aged man looked at Bai Xiqin, slightly agitated, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
"There’s no rescue anymore," Bai Xiqin softly said, "You have to save yourself now. It’s not safe in the car, hurry and get back home!"
There isn’t much food in the car, and if a First Rank zombie appears, the car won’t be safe.
"No rescue?" The middle-aged man was taken aback, slightly mumbling, "Why is there no rescue!"
He also wanted to drive back, but the street was blocked. There were already many cars in this area, and due to those creatures, there were chain car accidents in the morning, making it impossible to drive through!
He saw everything clearly from within the car: Just one bite or scratch and you turn into one of those creatures.
He dared not get out, hoping to last a few days in the car until rescue arrived and he could go home.
"Xiao Niu, why haven’t you started..."
Bai Anhai walked over. Before he finished speaking, he saw the man inside the white car.
"Mr. Liu?"
Bai Anhai was slightly stunned.
"Lawyer Bai?" The middle-aged man was surprised to see Bai Anhai outside, "Why are you here?"
"Ah, I’m here looking for someone."
Bai Anhai felt slightly embarrassed.
"Will the rescue still come?" Mr. Liu’s face showed faint excitement.
"It’s unlikely," Bai Anhai shook his head heavily, "Have you read apocalypse novels?"
Mr. Liu’s eyes dimmed, he was silent for a moment, then asked, "Aren’t you afraid of those monsters?"
"We are, but we can’t keep hiding forever. Mr. Liu, you should find a safe place soon!" Bai Anhai said, "I remember your house is nearby, go back quickly if you can!"
In places with more people, you can group together; this is one way to survive in the early apocalypse.
Alone, facing a wave of zombies gives you no chance to turn into one!
"Okay!"
Mr. Liu gritted his teeth, slowly opened the car door.
The car couldn’t get out, he had to walk back.
"Don’t worry, zombies are actually very slow, here’s a skateboard for you, do you know how to use it?"
Bai Anhai handed Mr. Liu a skateboard.
Mr. Liu took the skateboard, his fingers trembling slightly.
"I’ve played before!" Mr. Liu looked at Bai Anhai earnestly, "Thank you, Lawyer Bai, you’re truly a good person!"
"We’re all friends, no need to say these things," Bai Anhai said modestly.
Mr. Liu took a deep breath, looked at the white car, and gritted his teeth, deciding to abandon it.
The car couldn’t drive back, and there wasn’t any food inside. Without rescue, he would starve here.
His parents, wife, and children were still at home, he couldn’t stop worrying about them.
Mr. Liu looked gratefully at Bai Anhai, then skated away from the gas station.
"Weren’t we saying, when the apocalypse comes, not to act on impulse?" Wang Yiyun frowned at Bai Anhai, "You gave him the skateboard, what if you can’t retrieve things from the space, wouldn’t that be troublesome?"
"He’s one of the buyers of our house, I forged fake real estate contracts, earning over a million from him."
Bai Anhai looked at Mr. Liu’s back somberly, "He wanted separate housing for his wife, children, and parents, so he bought our house."
"...Just this once,"
Wang Yiyun’s lips twitched slightly.
The four made another round to confirm no one else was there, then Bai Anhai drove Mr. Liu’s white car to the fuel spot, blocking the outside view.
Bai Xiqin took out a large barrel from the space and began refueling.
In the apocalypse, gasoline is precious, in future secure bases it is exchanged for crystal cores.
"Don’t you think there are too few zombies?"
Bai Xiqin only heard the sound of fuel filling the barrel.
"...Too few?"
Bai Anhai looked around, unsure what the right amount of zombies should be.
"Based on our city’s population, there shouldn’t be just a few zombies," Bai Xiqin felt slightly heavy-hearted.
Judging by the number of damaged cars, there were many, but they’ve only encountered a few zombies, which isn’t reasonable.
Initially, zombies lack self-awareness, but over time, some become increasingly formidable.
After some time, certain High Rank zombies can command Low Level zombies.
Yet, it’s only the first day of the apocalypse!
